Abstract

Forest use is done by direct benefits (tangible) and indirect benefits (intangible). Indirect benefits (intangible) such as forest benefits in the form of immaterial or utilization of environmental services like nature which refers to the ecological principle can be used as an alternative to support long-term development of the country. One of the benefits that can be gained is the development of natural forest areas for ecotourism. This study aims to: (1) analyzing the potential attraction to attraction Nature Baths Karang Anyar; (2) to analyze the problems of nature tourism development strategy in the region SWOT attractions Nature Baths Karang Anyar. Abstract

The activity of mining has negative effects to the soil both physical, chemical, and biological. In Physically the structure of the soil, its texture, and porosity will be broken. Mine waste (Tailing) will influence in plant growth because the tailing contained mercury (Hg), lack of micro and macro nutrition and lack of organic substances. Reclamation activities are needed. As a starting point on reclamation, it is a need to be known what locally ground cover which can live in a mining field will be recommended to be planted. This research purposing on knowing what the type of ground cover vegetation which exist on field area of ex civillian gold mining in Kecamatan Naga Juang Kabupaten Mandailing Natal, knowing soil chemical condition for parameter pH, organic-C, available-P, KTK, choose cover vegetation potential for reclamation actifity. Vegetation data collection done in 20 m x 20 m plot purposively arranged, then the K (density), KR (relative density), F (frequency), FR (relative frequency), and INP (important value index) will be analyzed. Result of the research showing that there are 23 type of ground cover vegetation; Paspalum conjugatum, Micania micrantha, Acmella uliginosa, Paspalum comemersorili, Ageratum conyzoides, Crassocephalum crepidioides, Bidens sp, Sida rhombifolia, Solanum torvumn, Ipomea hederaceae, Diplazium esculentum, Calopogonium mucunoides, Borreria sp, Centrosema pubescens, Andropagu aciculatus, Borreria laevis, Amaranthus sp, Cucumis sp, Colocasia esculenta, Chrysopogon sp, Physalis anguleta, Urena lobata, Polygala paniculata. Condition for parameter pH: somewhat acid, organic-C: low, available-P: moderate, KTK: moderate. From those 23 type, there are 5 ground cover potential as pioneer plant based on the highest INP; Paspalum conjugatum (INP: 73,108), Micania micrantha (INP: 36,757), Acmella uliginosa (INP: 10, 968), Paspalum comemersorili (INP: 10,067), Ageratum conyzoides (INP: 9,016). Abstract

The utilization of forest which not offset by maintenance and care efforts will lead to the destruction of forests so that increase carbon levels in atmosphere. All components of the vegetation either trees, shrubs, lianas and epiphytes, groundcovers are carbon sink. However, the growth of groundcover very strongly influenced by the structure and composition of stands. Measurements of carbon groundcover in this village forest needs to determine the value of the importance of forests to be carbon sink as part of efforts to mitigate climate change in the North Tapanuli District. The purpose of this research was to analyze stand structure and composition and calculate groundcover carbon stocks in forest of Simorangkir Julu Village. Object of this research is the stand and groundcover in the forest of Simorangkir Julu Village. The method used is analysis of vegetation  at the stands and groundcovers. Destructive sampling method were used to harvest groundcover in 2 m x 2 m sample plots for carbon analyze. Then, followed by analysis of effect the structure and composition stands to groundcover carbon.  The results of this research indicate that there were 26 species of groundcover. Carbon stock of groundcover in salagundi stand is 4.93 tonnes/ ha, and in pine stand 4.88 tonnes/ ha. Based on  statistical analysis of carbon stocks groundcover in pine stands and Salagundi stands not significantly different. Carbon  stocks  are  more   influenced  by  the  diversity  and  density of groundcover, soil type, and environmental condition. Keywords: species, groundcover, stand, carbon

Abstract

Kemenyan tree was North Sumatera local species that produce high valuable resin and prospective export comodities. Recently, information about kemenyan resin production, growth structure and phenotypic studies still not determined yet. The objectives of this research were : (1) To determine resin production baseline data, growth structure and growth character related with resin production for further characterization research and (2). To estimate genetic variable of resin production through phenotypic characterization. SPSS and Minitab software were used for determined some variable of research. The result showed that kemenyan stand on Banuaji IV Village has resin production average as much 192,6 g/tree/yield and right-skewness resin production distribution structure. Pearson correlation test and multiple linear regression for 11 growth characters showed 9 characters that correlated with resin production (r: 0.18-0,734) and regression test showed that bark thickness and stem diameter character can be used as indicator for high resin tree selection. The result on phenotypic study showed that resin production character has high narrow sense heritability (h2: 0.55 – 0.60). It indicated that resin production character dominanly influenced by genetic factor. Keywords: kemenyan, resin, production, phenotypic, heritability

Abstract

Forest can reduce levels of carbondioxide (CO2) in the air and store it as organic matter in biomass plants. This research aimed to estimate the potential of biomass and carbon of Eucalyptus IND 47 that was  5 years old at IUPHHK PT. Toba Pulp Lestari, Tbk. Tele Sector. The method used in this study is a destructive method. Implementation of research activities carried out in two stages, namely field data collection and analyze biomass and carbon of the parts of stands in laboratory. Parameter measured in the field is wet weight while the measured parameter in laboratory were moisture content, volatile matter content, ash content, and carbon content. The result showed the best allometric equations for mass content of biomass and carbon in stands of Eucalyptus IND 47  was W = 454.419 – 45.528D + 1.886D2 and C = 220.979 – 23.389D + 1.004D2.. The potential of biomass and carbon stocks in stands of Eucalyptus IND 47  at IUPHHK PT. Toba Pulp Lestari, Tbk. Tele Sector is 243.18 tons/ha  and 118.89 C tons/ha. Keywords : 5 years old of Eucalyptus IND 47, biomass, carbon

Abstract

Avocado is a multifunctional plant that can be utilized in all parts. The growth of avocado and its yield can be achieved by fulfilling requirements for the growth and maintenance of the plant well. Planting on dry land requires the addition of organic fertilizer and optimal water requirements to increase organic matter content and plant fertility. This research aims to obtain the optimal dosage of compost and watering intervals for the growth of avocado (Persea americana). The research was carried out in the Greenhouse Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara. This research used a factorial completely randomized design (F-CRD) with the addition of compost fertilizer doses (K0:0 kg, K1:0.5kg. K2: 1 kg. K3: 1.5 kg and K4: 2 kg) and watering intervals (A1: once a day. A2: once every three days. A3: once every five days and A4: once every seven days) with parameters of observation of height, diameter, top fresh weight, root fresh weight, top dry weight and root dry weight. The results showed that the interaction of compost and watering intervals significantly affected the height and diameter increase, root fresh weight, and root dry weight of avocado plants. The interaction of giving 1.5 kg of compost and watering intervals every day had the best effect on the growth and quality of avocado seedlings
