Abstract

The purpose of the research is to obtain strains/varieties of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) that has high production in Tanah Karo highlands. This research was conducted in the village of Kutagadung, sub district of Berastagi, regency of Karo, North Sumatra Province located at ± 1390 meters altitude above the sea level, from March to June 2012. This research used a randomized block design (RBD) with 10 lines and two varieties of wheat. The experiment results showed that strains/varieties has significant different to plant height, number of productive sapling, length of malai, age of flowering, age of harvest, number of spikelet per plant, number of seed per plant, seed weight per plant, 1000 seed weight and production. The line that has good  production is strain G-21         (1.03 kg/m2) that was not significantly different from H-21, Basribey, LAJ3302/2*MO88, Menemen strain and Dewata variety, and strains/varieties of wheat that has less production is strain HP1744 (0.67 kg/m2) that was not significantly different from OASIS/SKAUZ//4*BCN, G-18, Rabe/2*MO88, Alibey strain and Selayar variety.   Keywords: lines, variety, Triticum aestivum L.

Abstract

Many potential field is able to be cultivated, which is under the canopy of the plantationand one of the breeding program that can be used obtaining cultivars or varieties are mostlydone by the tecknical breeding mutation. F that,an experiment had been conducted in or hefield of research USU, Medan (+ 25 m asl.) In February-June 2012th by using non-factorialrandomized block design. The results of experimental study that the action plan in severalvarieties had significant effect on flower age, harvesting time, 100 seed weight, theproduction per sample and the production per plot. Value estimate of heritability range from0.12-1. The coefficient of genotypes variations are about 4.64-38.5 and coefficient ofphenotypic variation are about 6.93-38.89. No significant correlation values for allparameters.

Abstract

The objective of this research were to study the influence of dormancy breaking methods on sugarpalm seed viability. This research was conducted at screenhouse in Agriculture Faculty, Universityof North Sumatera, Medan (± 25 m asl) from June-September 2012, using completely randomizeddesign with 8 treatments (control, water soaking 50ºC, 0.1%KNO3, 0.3%KNO3 , 0.5%KNO3 and0.1%HCl, 0.2%HCl, 0.3%HCl) with 4 replications. The results showed that dormancy breakingmethods were significantly effect to axis embryo length (5 week after planted), germinating time,viability, plant height, diameter bar, numbers root, root length, fresh weight, dry weight and werenot significantly to axis embryo length 4 WAP, normal sprout, abnormal sprout and the numberleaf extent.Keywords : dormancy, sugar palm,viability

Abstract

This reserach aimed to identify the morphological chracteristics and phylogenetic relationship  of   G. atroviridis and a conservation material in three districts of North Sumatra The research was conducted at Asahan, Batubara and Serdang Berdagai district from Februari to mei 2017 by survey method. G. atroviridis samples founded in three districs were identified and  characterzed based on International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI) standard. Sampling technique using accidental sampling. Parameters observed were fruit shape, number of fruit segments, fruit diameters, fruit weight, fruit size, fruit skin thickness, mature fruit colour. The result showed that there were 18 accession of G. atroviridis found in three districts. Morphologycal characteristic of G. atroviridis was  fruit shape (round, flattened, ovoid,). In fruit morphology showed that the 18 individuals analyzed were divided into 4 groups on a distance scale of 0,796 with a similarity rate of about 79-85.

Abstract

Identification of morphological characteristics and phylogenic relationship used to identify the best coconut characters that can be used as elders and germplasm. The purpose of this research was to identify the morphological characteristics and phylogenetic relationship of several genotypes of coconut in Pangkalan Brandan districts, Pangkalan Susu districts and Sei Bingei districts Langkat regency North Sumatera. The research was conducted from April to Mei 2018 by descriptive survey method based on coconut descriptor of International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI) using accidental sampling. This result showed that in research area there were 13 genotypes of dwarf coconut and 14 genotypes of tall coconut. The morphological characteristics were  found for crown shape viz (spherical, hemispherical, X-shaped ‘silhouette’), flower shape (normal and additional spathes or bracts), and fruit size (ovoid, almost round, oblate). The closet phylogenetic relaationship is AP16 and AP2 with coefficient euclidean 3,464 and farthest phylogenetic relationship is AP20 and AP22 with coefficient euclidean 10,488. Phylogenetic relationship of between genotypes of coconut in Pankalan Brandan Districts, Pangkalan Susu Districts and Sei Bingei Districts Langkat regency still have a close level relationship.
