Abstract

Exploration of banana peduncle waste is an attempt to search new product material alternatives. The purpose of this research is to reveal the character of banana peduncle fiber especially in its ability to absorb the color compared to abaca fiber and coir fiber. The color intensity test was conducted by calculating the luminance or the intensity of light which was reflected back by the surface area of the fiber. The result of this research was the bleached banana peduncle fiber generates more vivid and brighter color than the unbleached banana peduncle fiber. The unbleached one was similar to abaca fiber especially in absorbing red color (ratio = 1.00) and blue color (ratio = 1.01), however, it was lower than abaca fiber in absorbing green color (ratio = 0.98) and yellow color (ratio = 0.92). Thus, the unbleached banana peduncle fiber can be used effectively to perform color gradation of red and blue. Comparing to coir fiber, the absorption of banana peduncle fiber toward red, green, blue, and yellow color was higher. This research can be applied in coloring process of product material because it can accelerate production process and save production cost.

Abstract

Title: Design of Rinsing Clothes Tools with Inclusive Design Approach to Reduce Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Risk Based on case studies at Panti Wreda Perandan Padudan, Gondokusuman, Yogyakarta, the fact that the clothes that are washed by the elderly is not completely clean. One clean indicator of the laundry is seen from the absence of detergent foam that makes the water become cloudy when rinsing clothes. Manual rinsing process requires the work of both hands that seek friction and pressure (i.e. to rubben) so that the soap water contained in the fabric can come out. The movement of the evaporating on rinsing has a tendency to inflict numbness even pain (i.e. carpal tunnel syndrome) if done at high intensity. The condition can deteriorate in long-lasting routines in the elderly. In the process of cassing, the elderly have limited hand grips in conducting activities that are made repeatedly. With this problem, it is necessary to design the tools to rinse the clothes so as to minimize the foam attached to the clothes until the result of a cleaner laundry and can reduce the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome. The design of this product utilizes a two-stage inclusion approach, which is research and design designing. The research phase uses ergonomics- based methods with observation and interview techniques. The design process that was used after obtaining the designs statement was SCAMPER. Through this method, the tool is produced to rinse the laundry cleaner without experiencing the pain in the hands.

Abstract

Title: Development of Inclusive Hanger Design to Facilitate Clothes Drying Activities Laundry activities, including drying are still recommended to be done by the elderly independently. However, the decline in the physical condition of the elderly, including a decrease in the balance of body position, cannot be avoided. In the observation at the GKJ Gondokusuman nursing home, the drying place is uses a rope on the roof or pole that is quite high from the reach of the elderly hand. When drying clothes, the elderly must stretch their arms and tiptoe because of the differences in height of the clothesline. This condition can increase the risk of accidents for the elderly who lose balance. This study aims to develop a product to dry the laundry and reduce the distance between the users with a high clothesline. This product development was using design research and product design. The research method was based in ergonomics knowledge through an inclusive design approach. The techniques used were behavioral observation, assessment of body activities, like Nordic Body Map (NBM) and Rapid Entire Body Assignment (REBA). The results of the NBM stated that the elderly experienced pain in the right side of the body, while the results of the REBA assessment showed a score of 10. This condition showed that the elderly posture while drying still had a high risk of injury. As the results of these studies, the product is designed with a function to hang laundry that make user's body position more balanced because there is no need to stretch arms and tiptoe too high. Users also easily put clothes on the hanger because there is a grip feature for both hands.

Abstract

This Community Service (PkM) aims to improve the knowledge and skills of the volunteers of Dream House Foundation in Yogyakarta in assisting street children during online learning which includes basic knowledge about Wix, steps to create, use, and develop Wix as an online learning medium. The activity is implemented using training methods as a form of Participatory Learning and Action, with the following implementation stages: (1) counseling on the benefits of Wix to support online learning (2) training and practice of creating Wix as online learning medium (3) FGD (4 ) creating Wix in groups (4) group work mentoring (5) result presentation and improvements (6) evaluation. The evaluation was started from the beginning of the activity with the criteria of the number of attendance, participation in each stage of the activity, and the presentation of Wix site design. The evaluation results show that 90% of the participants understand and can design Wix site to develop web-based online learning media. The creation of the Wix site according to the needs of the children in the assisted areas has referred to the Wix site developed by the facilitator team and supports the availability of online learning materials to study from home.

Abstract

Abstrak- Virus Sars-Cov-2 penyebab Covid-19 dapat bertahan di atas permukaan benda hingga 72 jam. Hal ini mendorong pola hidup yang baru untuk menciptakan kebersihan terutama pada permukaan yang terus terpapar dengan lingkungan dan juga sentuhan, salah satunya yaitu tas. Tenaga kesehatan wanita, sebagai garda terdepan pandemic Covid-19 dengan kebutuhan urgenitas terhadap akses kebersihan menjadi target user utama dalam pengembangan produk yang ditawarkan. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui studi literatur, penyebaran kuesioner terhadap 50 responden tenaga kesehatan wanita dan wawancara terhadap pakar, yang merupakan desainer tas, dokter serta perawat. Sedangkan untuk perancangan dilakukan proses perancangan mencakup implementasi design thinking double diamond dan juga hasil analisis terhadap kebutuhan pengguna. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa tenaga kesehatan membutuhkan sarana bawa dengan akses kebersihan tas yang lebih mudah karena tuntutan pekerjaan untuk terus menjaga protokol kesehatan termasuk kebersihan tas secara berkala serta kewajiban membawa berbagai instrument perlindungan diri secara pribadi. Maka dari itu tujuan dari pengembangan desain adalah untuk menghasilkan tas kerja yang mudah dibersihkan bagi tenaga kesehatan wanita. Produk ini memiliki spesifikasi material yang tahan air, kapasitas yang besar, kompartemen yang variatif, akses penyimpanan yang praktis serta akses membersihkan yang fleksibel. Produk dirancang dengan sistem modular yang memudahkan pembersihan hanya pada area yang terpapar serta fitur ungkah yang memudahkan akses kebersihan yang lebih menyeluruh. Berdasarkan hasil uji coba pengguna dapat disimpulkan bahwa elemen dan fitur pada tas hyji dirasa sudah cukup untuk memenuhi akses kebersihan tas yang dibutuhkan oleh tenaga kesehatan wanita.Abstract— Sars-Cov-2 virus that causes Covid-19 can survive on surfaces for up to 72 hours. This encourages a new lifestyle to create cleanliness, especially on surfaces that are constantly exposed to the environment and also by the touch, one of them is bags. Healthcare workers as the front line of the Covid-19 pandemic with the urgency to hygiene access, are the main target of this product. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach through literature study, distributing questionnaires to 50 healthcare workers and interviewing experts, which are bag designers, doctors and healthcare workers. Meanwhile, the design is done by using the design thinking method. The design process includes the implementation of design thinking double diamond and also the results of the analysis of user needs. Theresults showed that healthcare workers needed access to bag cleanliness because of the demands of work to maintain health protocols including regular bag cleanliness and the obligation to carry various personal protection instruments. Therefore, the purpose of developing the design is to produce a workbag that is easy to clean for healthcare workers. This product has material specifications that are waterproof, large capacity, varied compartments, convenient storage access and flexible cleaning access. The product is designed with a modular system that allows easy cleaning of only exposed areas and a display feature that allows access to a more thorough cleaning. Based on the results of user trials, it can be concluded that the elements and features on the hyji bag are considered sufficient to meet the access to hygiene required by healthcare workers.

Abstract

The increasing rate of population growth and urbanization resulted in a shift in the function of agricultural land into residential areas which r has an impact on the occurrence of a food crisis due to population growth that is not balanced with the rate of food production. One of the efforts to grow food self-sufficiency in urban areas, especially on narrow land, is to practice urban agriculture. This study aims to determine the priority for the development of products that support the productivity of urban farming practices with the case study in the city of Yogyakarta. Data was collected through a survey with a sample of 25 households in RW 3 Tompeyan, Tegalrejo District, Yogyakarta City, who practice urban farming. Data were analyzed quantitatively distributively to find a trend of significance. The results of the study show that products that support plant watering, development of planting containers, and products that facilitate the application of waste in urban agriculture are top priorities that designers and manufacturers of agricultural equipment must develop to support urban farming practices in the City of Yogyakarta, as well as in other regions in Indonesia. with similar characteristics.

Abstract

The implementation of Community Activity Restrictions set by the government during the COVID-19 pandemic encouraged people to pursue gardening as a hobby while undergoing independent isolation or quarantine at home. The increasing selling price of ornamental plants and the emergence of various equipment products mark the guard. This study aims to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on increasing the hobby of gardening and to identify consumer preferences in purchasing gardening equipment products. The benefit of this research is to produce recommendations for gardening equipment designs that are desirable to consumers. Quantitative methods were used to describe trends in consumer behavior through online surveys of one hundred people who have a gardening hobby. Based on the analysis of the questionnaire, it is known that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the gardening hobby in the community. The three most essential tools in gardening are pots, watering tools, and shelves. In choosing a pot, the prominent factors considered by consumers are design, material, and price. The types of pots most respondents chose were plain earthenware pots and white plastic pots. Most respondents choose high-straight iron and wood-iron shelves or minimalist iron shelves. Regarding to pot decorations, respondents chose metal-wood pot stand, or rattan pot stand, over other decorative products such as pot hangers or fabric pot covers.

Abstract

The Ministry of Tourism has named Lake Toba in North Sumatra as one of the five super priority destinations in Indonesia. Meat Village, which is located on the edge of Lake Toba, has also become one of tourism points development because it is not only rich in natural beauty but also has strong artistic and cultural elements. This training aims to empower the community, especially housewives, in developing the potential of ulos woven fabrics as souvenirs from the tourist village of Meat. This Community Service program was initiated by collecting data through interviews, surveys, and observations with the community and local village officials regarding the types, processes of making and marketing ulos cloth. The next stage is to organize a Training for Trainers (ToT) in order to assist participants in the training. The training was held for 2 days and was attended by 37 participants. On the first day of the training, participants were trained to make special packaging and shopping bags for the Ragi Hotang ulos cloth, the weaving process of which is one of the tourist attractions of Meat Village. Packaging and shopping bags are an effort to form a positive Meat Tourism Village brand image. Then on the second day, participants practiced developing various products from Sadum ulos cloth. After participating in this training, it is hoped that the local community can market Meat Village souvenir products directly to tourists without going through intermediaries so as to further improve welfare. Through this souvenir product, it is also expected to help support the readiness of Meat Village as a tourist village.

Abstract

The location of culinary services (including restaurants) has now become an alternative for recreational tourism that is popular with the community. On the other hand, cities need regional identity, one of which can be obtained from the sustainability of local values. This paper aims to find the role of locality in restaurant preferences as an alternative to family recreational tourism in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). Data was obtained through a survey via online questionnaire at the end of 2022 with a total of 115 respondents. As a result, it was found that the number of respondents who explicitly chose a restaurant based on the appearance of the locality aspect was not significant. Even so, the data shows that the restaurants that are favorite by respondents to visit with their families in order to achieve recreational goals tend to have elements of locality, especially in the material and shape aspects. This is thought to be influenced by the character of the majority of families who are invited to enjoy the restaurant by respondents, namely the parents of pre-elderly and elderly respondents who are influenced by nostalgia factors in their preferences as consumers.

Abstract

Merti Bumi merupakan tradisi Jawa yang erat relasinya dengan kehidupan masyarakat agraris karena mengandung makna dan nilai-nilai luhur yang penting bagi keberlanjutan tatanan dan aktivitas sosial. Demi menjaga nilai-nilai tradisi ini tetap langgeng hingga pada masa yang akan datang, diperlukan adaptasi sesuai dengan kondisi masa kini. Maka, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merevitalisasi tradisi Merti Bumi khususnya artefak gunungan melalui perancangan produk kontemporer. Metode ATUMICS (Artefact-Technique-Utility-Material-Icon-Concept-Shape) digunakan untuk mengkaji gunungan sebagai salah satu artefak dari kirab Merti Bumi serta merancang produk berdasarkan hasil kajian tersebut. Tahapan dari penelitian ini adalah analisis elemen tradisi, penyusunan konsep desain, iterasi desain, serta uji coba dan evaluasi produk. Hasil dari perancangan produk ini berupa piring saji yang disusun menyerupai gunungan dengan tetap mempertahankan elemen konsep (concept) dan bentuk (shape), serta menambahkan elemen modern yaitu teknik (technique), kegunaan (utility), material (material), dan ikon (icon). Hasil akhir dari perancangan ini berupa dua set piring saji susun berbahan batu marmer Carrara dan Black Marquina yang dikombinasikan dengan kuningan sebagai struktur penyangga. Pilihan material ini mempertimbangkan higienitas dan estetika, serta menyesuaikan target pasar ekspor kelas menengah ke atas. Piring ini juga memiliki sistem lepas pasang sehingga memudahkan dalam penyimpanan maupun distribusi produk.
