Abstract

Abstract

Title: Design of Rinsing Clothes Tools with Inclusive Design Approach to Reduce Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Risk Based on case studies at Panti Wreda Perandan Padudan, Gondokusuman, Yogyakarta, the fact that the clothes that are washed by the elderly is not completely clean. One clean indicator of the laundry is seen from the absence of detergent foam that makes the water become cloudy when rinsing clothes. Manual rinsing process requires the work of both hands that seek friction and pressure (i.e. to rubben) so that the soap water contained in the fabric can come out. The movement of the evaporating on rinsing has a tendency to inflict numbness even pain (i.e. carpal tunnel syndrome) if done at high intensity. The condition can deteriorate in long-lasting routines in the elderly. In the process of cassing, the elderly have limited hand grips in conducting activities that are made repeatedly. With this problem, it is necessary to design the tools to rinse the clothes so as to minimize the foam attached to the clothes until the result of a cleaner laundry and can reduce the risk of carpal tunnel syndrome. The design of this product utilizes a two-stage inclusion approach, which is research and design designing. The research phase uses ergonomics- based methods with observation and interview techniques. The design process that was used after obtaining the designs statement was SCAMPER. Through this method, the tool is produced to rinse the laundry cleaner without experiencing the pain in the hands.

Abstract

Title: Development of Inclusive Hanger Design to Facilitate Clothes Drying Activities Laundry activities, including drying are still recommended to be done by the elderly independently. However, the decline in the physical condition of the elderly, including a decrease in the balance of body position, cannot be avoided. In the observation at the GKJ Gondokusuman nursing home, the drying place is uses a rope on the roof or pole that is quite high from the reach of the elderly hand. When drying clothes, the elderly must stretch their arms and tiptoe because of the differences in height of the clothesline. This condition can increase the risk of accidents for the elderly who lose balance. This study aims to develop a product to dry the laundry and reduce the distance between the users with a high clothesline. This product development was using design research and product design. The research method was based in ergonomics knowledge through an inclusive design approach. The techniques used were behavioral observation, assessment of body activities, like Nordic Body Map (NBM) and Rapid Entire Body Assignment (REBA). The results of the NBM stated that the elderly experienced pain in the right side of the body, while the results of the REBA assessment showed a score of 10. This condition showed that the elderly posture while drying still had a high risk of injury. As the results of these studies, the product is designed with a function to hang laundry that make user's body position more balanced because there is no need to stretch arms and tiptoe too high. Users also easily put clothes on the hanger because there is a grip feature for both hands.

Abstract

Human, have been claimed to be central in a world perspective and bring an another investigating in design science. One of the process development in the design process is using Hierarchy Task Analysis (HTA) for idea development through task analysis. This method constituted from interdisciplinary science between industrial design and ergonomic. In the process, HTA has been adjusted and developed for the design process requirement. This condition affects the process analysis and format of the HTA. The paradigm shift, give more access for a designer to addresses idea development. Furthermore, Human activities, how they do it, using what and what kind of problems that can happen is going focused on user interaction with the product. All of these analysis and idea development is conducted using scheme and sketches. The result of ideas sketches to be able to work on next step process, for example, work on paper models or clay models. The result of ideas sketches to be able to continue work on next step process, for example, product existing analysis and work on modells. Research and developing HTA method for product design had the use of action research approach. This process engages lecturer and student as a user of HTA method. Through this approach, be able to found appropriateness HTA method which solves provided a problem. The result of HTA development has a benefit for a student as a one of planning and product development to arise a product based on ergonomic. Key words: product design, Hierarchy Task Analysis (HTA), ideation, design process, ideas sketches

Abstract

Today, the world of design has been grown and developed, even though there are many questions still leaves need to discuss. One of the most fundamental questions in design research is an understanding of the meaning of design itself. The emergence of such question, in particular, what is design, based on an understanding that many students or people translete design into the styling process only, and did not understand that design process has begun when people start to think to overcome limitations and meet the needs. The problem of understanding design has been answered through a design process which based on material approach, so it is found that the design activity has involved thinking from the beginning until embodiment. In the design process which based on material approach, discovering and adressed a material property into a product is the most important thing has to be sought. The conditions is the same thing to find DNA and the identity of a product, so that it can bring up the purposes (utilitarian), and aesthetic (decorative) aspects. The methods used for answering a problem are qualitative research with emic persepective and material-based design research, so that through those methods, there is a better understanding of meaning for design by Indonesian people and has been known as rekayasa. Through this paradigmshift, design is more easily to understand and taught as well, as it is very close to reality.

Abstract

Abstract

In the era of information and communication technology, keyboards are part of the work carried out via computers. The keyboard is the primary component in carrying out commands for the computer. High intensity use of keyboards and computers can change body position for the worse, and cause new diseases, for example Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). CTS is a syndrome that is often caused by repetitive movements and poor body posture. In CTS, effective preventive solutions have not been effective. This research uses qualitative methods to examine the factors that cause CTS, as well as finding solutions through product design. The goal is to design keyboard products and supporting items that can provide a feeling of comfort, safety and prevent changes in posture. There are several stages in this research, including studying employee behavior with keyboard use, analyzing risk factors from the literature, and testing and user interviews regarding the new product from this research.

Abstract

The strategy for developing Khombouw bark craft products in Asei Village, Jayapura Regency, has not yet been optimized to become an interactive learning medium for forming early childhood interest in learning and building character education based on local Papuan wisdom. This research explores the mechanical properties by testing the bending strength of Khombouw bark material as a primary material for making character dolls for Papuan children. This research uses a Research and Development (R&D) development approach, including existing, archetype, and experimental studies. The process of assembling the prototype doll from Khombouw bark uses basic patterns with manual sewing techniques and is reinforced with composite materials to give a handmade impression. The results of this research show that natural fiber in the form of bark from the Khombouw tree has a high level of elasticity that can be applied in the design of volumetric product construction. Visualization of educational dolls using natural colors (wood brown or reddish brown) produced from the surface of Khombouw bark material, which is displayed on child figures by adapting the biological characteristics of Papuans (curly hair), as well as traditional clothing such as crowns, noken and tassels to build Papuan cultural identity.

Abstract

Kata kunci: pembatik difabel, inklusif, pemanas arus DCABSTRACTThe skill of batik craftmanship should spread wider to the nook and corner of Indonesia archipelago. Impairment such as brachydactile as well as paraphlegia shouldn’t be a hindrance to master the batik technique. There are three factors found as a source of high production cost in  hand-made batik; time, energy, and high skill. The goal of this ergonomic research using case studies of difable batik artisans is to get an understanding of user capabilities and musculoskeletal problems of users while operating standard batik equipment. The result then will be used as a specification of product performance for designing inclusive electric batik equipment, that can be operated by most users, from beginners to advance artisans, with normal fingers as well as challenged. Measurement using RULA method, observation and interviews on the trials of several new handles showed that there is an agreement on handle size when both extreme impaired users performed external precision grip. NBM and HTA analyzes concluded that if wax heating unit could be integrated with canting, it will eliminate one production step as well as reduce fatique. This research had produced a design of electric batik equipment with DC current. This inclusive equipment will enable batik production to be made in villages with limited supply from national electrical company. Keywords: diffable batik artisan, inclusive, DC heating unit
