Abstract

Background: Prevalence of anemia continues to increase among pregnant women in Indonesia. The micronutrients that are needed to reduce the anemia is still lacking to be accessed by pregnant women. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of multiple micronutrients (MMN) compared to the iron-folic acid to reduce the incidence of anemia among pregnant women. Methods: Systematic review was used in this study using the electronic databases Google Scholar, Science Direct, and PubMed. The articles included in this study were published in 2009-2018 and were written in English language. Results: In total, 380 papers were identified and six articles were included in this study. Study found that the MMN and iron-folic acid had the same effect in influencing the anemia status among pregnant women. However, the MMN had a potential to increase the average of body weight, to reduce the incidence of low birth weight (LBW) and preterm birth among pregnant women. Conclusions: The effectiveness of multi micronutrients in pregnant women is as good as iron-folic acid in reducing the anemia during pregnancy. Further studies need to be conducted to see the effects of MMN on pregnant women by considering other factors such as maternal nutritional status, gestational age, and duration of supplementation

Abstract

Total Fertility Rate (TFR) in Indonesia is 2.6. It’s above the average TFR in ASEAN countries which is 2.44. This condition shows that Indonesia's population growth is high. The herbal plants as an alternative is a safe method of contraception that can reduce the negative effects of using hormonal contraceptives method. The safe method contraception using herbal plants can reduce the negative effects in using hormonal contraceptives. The aim of this study is to determine the changes in endometrial thickness due to the administration of Foeniculum Vulgare M. and Azadirachia indica Juss extracts. The type of this study is a true experimental design with Post Test Only Control Group Design. The subjects were 15 female mice (mus musculus) which were taken randomly and it divided into 3 groups, there were K- (standard care), K+ (contraceptive pills), and E (fennel seed extract and neem leaves extract with a dose of 7.84: 11.2 mg / 20g BW). The treatment was given for 14 days. On the 15th day, the mice were terminated to measure the thickness of the endometrium. The result of the study were analyzed using the ANOVA test and the post hoc Scheffe test. The results study shown that the administration of fennel seed and neem leaf extract had a significant effect in reducing endometrial thickness (p-value 0.05) so that it was proven to have an anti-fertility effect.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Breast engorgement occurs due to obstruction of venous and lymphatic flow, leading to impaired milk drainage and increased pressure in the milk ducts and alveoli. One alternative to manage breast engorgement is the application of cabbage leaf compresses. This study aims to examine the effect of cabbage leaf compresses (Brassica oleracea) on reducing breast swelling and pain in postpartum mothers with breast engorgement. This research employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design (one group pretest-posttest) involving 33 respondents experiencing breast engorgement. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed a reduction in the average swelling score from 4.06 to 2.06 and a decrease in pain score from 3.58 to 2.94 after the intervention (p-value = 0.000). Cabbage leaf compresses were effective in reducing breast swelling and pain in postpartum mothers with breast engorgement. This method can be recommended as a non-pharmacological alternative in midwifery care.

Abstract

Background: Lower back pain is a common issue during pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, affecting approximately 50%-80% of pregnant women. This discomfort can arise from excessive bending, prolonged walking without rest, and frequent heavy lifting. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of gym ball therapy on lower back pain among third-trimester pregnant women at Posyandu Desa Pardasuka, under the jurisdiction of Puskesmas Katibung, South Lampung Regency. Methods: The study used a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. It was conducted in July 2024 at Posyandu Desa Pardasuka, involving a population of all third-trimester pregnant women (15 individuals), selected through purposive sampling. Data collection consisted of several stages, starting with a pre-test where the researcher obtained research permissions, provided informed consent, and measured the intensity of lower back pain using a Numerical Rating Scale (NRS).Results: The results showed that the average lower back pain score among third-trimester pregnant women before gym ball therapy was 5,60, with a standard deviation (SD) of 0,507. After the therapy, the average score significantly decreased to 2,93, with an SD of 0,258. Statistical analysis using the t-test indicated a significant reduction in pain, with a p-value of 0,000 (p < 0,05). This demonstrates that gym ball therapy is effective in reducing lower back pain in third-trimester pregnant women. Conclusion: Gym ball therapy is effective in reducing lower back pain among third-trimester pregnant women. Pregnant women are encouraged to perform this therapy regularly under the guidance of healthcare professionals.
