Abstract

Abstract: Phenomena of the emergence of a cult in Indonesia have been addressing with a more theological approach. Nevertheless, the problem of the emergence of a cult is not only seen as a problem of deviation or heresy of religion but also as social and psychological problems. This article describes the emergence of a cult with two backgrounds by making “aliran Quraniyah” in West Java as a case. In addition, the emergence of this cult is caused by two aspects: external and internal. External aspects related to the economic and social problems experienced by Rohmansyah, the founders of this cult who was experiencing economic crisis and also various socio-religious issues those are not in line with his expectations and perceptions. Meanwhile, the internal aspects associated with symptoms of psychological disorders experienced by Rohmansyah. Finally, factors that causing the emergence of a cult is not only a matter of heresy, but also sociological and psychological.الخلاصة: ظهور مظاهر طائفة مضلّة فى اندونيسيا يعتبرها الناس حسب نهج الهي, وفى الحقيقة, ماكانت الطائفة المضلّة عبارة عن التشوية والاشاءة الى الاديان فحسب ولكنّها من المسألة الاجتماعية والنفسية. هذه الكتابة تبيّن ظهور مظاهر الطائفة المضلّة بهاتين خلفية البحث وجعل الطائفة القرانية بجاوى الغربية كما هو الحال. ظهور مظاهر طائفة مضلّة على الاجمال مبدوء بجانبين : يعنى العامل الخارجى والعامل الداخلى . العامل الداخلى يتعلق بالاقتصادية والاجتماعية كما سلكه رحمان ساح, فاِنّه يقابل المشاكل الاقتصادية والاجتماعية فى حياته. وكان هذا الواقع بعيدا عن التوقعات و التصوّرات فى حياته. وأمّا العامل الداخلى  يتعلّق باعراض الاضطربات النفسية كما سلكه رحمان ساح. ولذلك, العوامل التى تفرص ظهور مظاهر طائفة مضلّة ليست بسبب اضطربات الفكرة فحسب, وانّما يظهر بسبب اخر, يعنى المشاكل الاجتماعية والنفسيةAbstrak: Berbagai fenomena kemunculan aliran sesat di Indonesia lebih banyak disikapi dengan pendekatan teologis. Namun demikian, masalah kemunculan aliran sesat tidak hanya dapat dilihat sebagai masalah penyimpangan atau penistaan agama, tetapi juga masalah sosial dan psikologis. Tulisan ini mendeskripsikan kemunculan aliran sesat dengan dua latar belakang tersebut dengan menjadikan aliran Quraniyah di Jawa Barat sebagai kasus. Secara umum, kemunculan aliran ini dilatarbelakangi dua aspek, yakni eksternal dan internal. Aspek eksternal terkait dengan problem ekonomi dan sosial yang dialami Rohmansyah sang pendiri aliran ini yang mengalami krisis ekonomi dan juga berbagai persoalan sosial-keagamaan yang tidak sesuai dengan harapan dan persepsinya selama ini. Sementara itu, aspek internal terkait dengan gejala kelainan psikologis yang dialami oleh Rohmansyah. Dengan demikian, faktor penyebab munculnya aliran sesat bukan hanya masalah kesesatan berpikir, tetapi juga problem sosiologis dan psikologis yang melingkupinya.

Abstract

Abstract  Authoritatively promoted in 2019 by the government to counter religious radicalism, the study and implementation of religious moderation has taken more on Sunni viewpoint. Whereas, as a open conceptual, the discourse and practices of religious moderation potentially to develop in others Islamic madhab, such as Shia. This article investigates on how the Shia community struggling over discrimination by developing the middle position in religious practices. This article offers an alternative perspective on religious moderation by referring to the religious thoughts and practices carried out by the congregation of All-Indonesian Assembly of Ahl al-Bayt Association (IJABI). This paper aims to investigate a model of religious moderation from Shia perspective. The identification for religious moderation from Shia perspective refers to the definition, characteristics, and indicators from the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, which includes three pillars, namely moderation in religious thought, method of dakwah, and religious traditions and practices. This paper argues that the congregation of IJABI practices religious moderation which consist of a teaching of prioritizing morality over fiqh, the use of the term Ahl al-Bayt, the inclusive dakwah, and the mission of the IJABI to accommodate all Muslims from different madhabs, and the commemoration of Ashura in a local culture.

Abstract

This article discusses sacred experience in virtual worship. It focuses on virtual Friday prayer via zoom application leaded by Wawan Gunawan Abdul Wahid, scholar from Yogyakarta, which has been holding this ritual since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic. Using phenomenological approach, this research argues that congregation of virtual Friday prayers experience sacredness during the prayers through two conditionals: attachment and continuousness in a ritual. Devoutness in prayer emerges within engagement in a ritual. The sacred atmosphere ascends when the congregation of the virtual Friday prayer enter the virtual room for Friday prayer. This virtual Friday room demarcates an offline profane room from sacred virtual room for Friday prayer. In addition, the continually engagement in virtual Friday prayer contribute to devoutness and sacred feeling of the congregation. The engagement of the congregation stimulates collective bond among participant in virtual Friday prayers.             Keywords: sacred, profane, virtual Friday prayer, worship, devoutness    ABSTRAKArtikel ini membahas tentang pengalaman sakral dalam ibadah virtual. Fokus kajiannya adalah pada pelaksanaan salat Jumat virtual melalui aplikasi zoom dipimpin oleh Wawan Gunawan Abdul Wahid, seorang akademisi asal Yogyakarta, yang berlangsung sejak pandemi COVID-19. Melalui pendekatan fenomenologi, kajian ini berargumen bahwa para jamaah mendapatkan pengalaman sakral dalam pelaksanaan salat Jumat virtual. Pengalaman tersebut terbentuk melalui dua prasyarat: kebersamaan dan kesinambungan. Kekhusyukan itu timbul melalui kebersamaan sejak awal. Ketika semua jamaah memasuki ruang virtual zoom nuansa sakralitas mulai terasa. Di sini ruang virtual zoom menjadi pembatas antara ruang profan di alam nyata dengan ruang sakral di alam maya. Selain itu, perasaan kekhusyukan dan sakralitas itu juga tumbuh dan dikuatkan dengan kehadirannya pada salat Jumat virtual secara konsisten dan berkesinambungan. Jamaah yang selalu hadir secara tidak langsung menanamkan pada dirinya perasaan ikatan bersama dengan jamaah dan ibadah virtual tersebut. Kata Kunci: sakral, profan, Jumat virtual, ibadah, khusuk

Abstract

This article discusses the shift in functions and forms of tradition in society. One of the essential functions of tradition for society is a symbolic function. This symbolic function is found through community involvement in traditional processions where they find meaning in solidarity and togetherness. However, the symbolic function of the tradition can actually be used to obtain non-symbolic interests such as achieving economic benefits. This research is focused on the Ngadatangkeun tradition in the Sundanese people in the Majalengka region, West Java. By using qualitative research methods with data collection techniques through participatory participation, interviews and literature review, this study argues that commodification has changed traditions' form and function from being symbolic to being materialistic. This commodification process has altered the symbolic social exchange in tradition into an economic function in the context of exchanging material (objects). This happens because the traditional procession has strongly emphasized aspects of material gain and private ownership as a form of materialistic attitude. This change is the background for the emergence of a new function in the Ngadatangkeun tradition, namely the economic function. However, the combination of symbolic functions and the development of new financial functions of tradition encourages tradition's duality, which complements each other rather than negates these functions.

Abstract

This paper discusses a driving factor that contributes to the rising of radicalism on major campuses around Bandung. The research focuses on the Coordinating Board for Campus Da'wah Institutions (Badan Koordinasi Lembaga Dakwah Kampus-BKLDK), a sub-organization of Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) campaigning Khilafah ideology around campuses in the Bandung area, West Java. The research deploys a qualitative method with data collection through participant observation ories in BKLDK activities, interviews with key informants, and document review. Referring to the circulation of Khilafah ideology carried out by  BKLDK, this study argues that the rising of a narrative on radicalism among campuses is due to the absence of differentiation in understanding and handling radicalism itself. Focusing on the role of BKLDK, considered a radical movement, this organization and on spreading ideas without violence, precisely succeeded in mainstreaming Khilafah discourse among students on campuses around Bandung through a strategy of distributing leaflets as reading material and public discussions. Meanwhile, a government and campuses strategy to counterbalance the discourse of radicalism tends to generalize between the radicalism of ideas and radicalism as a violent movement
