This article discusses how religious organizations use social media by focusing its analysis on Nahdlatul Ulama and its YouTube channel, NU Channel. Using a qualitative method, this study collected its required data through online observation of NU Channel. This article argues that the assumption that Nahdlatul Ulama is a religious organization that tends to be traditionalist and conservative towards technological developments is incorrect. Nahdlatul Ulama is willing to adopt the internet as a new medium for conveying its religious views. The findings show that Nahdlatul Ulama is adaptive to social media as seen its adoption of YouTube as a new medium of religious studies conducted online on NU Channel. All this show a digital transformation within Nahdlatul Ulama’ religious studies, which is traditionally identical with pesantren, direct learning method with kiai, and other conventional ways of education and learning.

This paper will discuss the Khilafah ideological campaign by Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) before the revocation of operational permits by the government in 2017. The opening of the tap for democratization after the fall of the New Order regime led to the proliferation of new mass organizations, including religious organizations. HTI entered Indonesia in the 1980s because of the opportunities due to the opening of the faucet of democracy. They are aggressively carrying out large-scale campaigns to ground their ideology and ideals, namely forming an Islamic state (Khilafah Islamiyah). HTI cleverly campaigns for the caliphate ideology through their significant events, namely in conferences, leaders' conferences, and the My Movement plan for teenagers. In addition, HTI also campaigns for a caliphate through print media, namely Al-Islam, Al-Wa-ie', and Media Ummat. In responding to the challenges of the times, HTI uses social media as another campaign instrument. They also managed to “advertise” their young figures who became new role models for Islam among the millennial generation through social media. The revocation of operational permits by the government marked the end of the offline HTI campaign, although their struggles on social media did not stop. Social media with the principle of openness became the main instrument of HTI's campaign after the government dissolved it.

This study discuss the views of Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) regarding religious pluralism. HTI as an organization that is sincere in interpreting the Qur'an literally and firmly rejects religious pluralism, which many people agree on as a concept that must be applied in Indonesia. This is a logical consequence where Indonesia is inhabited by various religions bound by a sense of unity in Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. For HTI, this is a failure of the state to build and maintain the unity that Islam should bind through a single power (Khilafah Islamiyah). This concept has been widely criticized by scholars based on two approaches, namely the Qur'an and sociological. Clearly, the Qur'an has acknowledged the existence of pluralism through the existence and truth of the books before the Qur'an, the acknowledgment of prophets and apostles other than the 25 people, as well as the acknowledgment of the Qur'an for the existence of other religions. HTI's rejection of pluralism was also refuted by HTI's own inconsistencies as the attitude of rejecting globalization but acting as a player of globalization, the attitude of rejecting democracy but taking advantage of the openness of freedom of opinion as a result of democracy, and the attitude of blaming the system of liberalism and secularism as the factors that give rise to deviant religious sects are purely psychological and sociological factors.

This paper discusses a driving factor that contributes to the rising of radicalism on major campuses around Bandung. The research focuses on the Coordinating Board for Campus Da'wah Institutions (Badan Koordinasi Lembaga Dakwah Kampus-BKLDK), a sub-organization of Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) campaigning Khilafah ideology around campuses in the Bandung area, West Java. The research deploys a qualitative method with data collection through participant observation ories in BKLDK activities, interviews with key informants, and document review. Referring to the circulation of Khilafah ideology carried out by BKLDK, this study argues that the rising of a narrative on radicalism among campuses is due to the absence of differentiation in understanding and handling radicalism itself. Focusing on the role of BKLDK, considered a radical movement, this organization and on spreading ideas without violence, precisely succeeded in mainstreaming Khilafah discourse among students on campuses around Bandung through a strategy of distributing leaflets as reading material and public discussions. Meanwhile, a government and campuses strategy to counterbalance the discourse of radicalism tends to generalize between the radicalism of ideas and radicalism as a violent movement

The phenomenon of hoaxes as fake news is mostly constructed through social media in this era. The sites that produce and spread hoaxes or fake news are relatively high in several big cities in Indonesia, especially Bandung, the capital of West Java. A large number of false reports have made the public uneasy. The hoax news is not only consumed by the general public but also among universities. This study aims to determine how the hoax model spread among Muslim students in Islamic universities in Bandung. This research uses a qualitative approach. The data was collected by applying in-depth interviews and documentation studies to explore the focus of the research. This study found several facts, namely: first, most of the students often received hoaxes, even some students had also been hoax makers and spreaders. Second, the spread of hoaxes is carried out through social media in line with information technology development. Third, there are 3 (three) patterns of hoax spreading among Islamic university students, namely (1) the pattern of cyclization or distribution carried out within certain groups; (2) general public distribution patterns; (3) a break pattern, in which the dissemination of information stops to the authorities. Besides, the campus needs support in strengthening digital literacy practices and comprehensive verification (tabayun) efforts for students, and serious handling of the government.
