Abstract

This research is aimed to find out the correlation between (1) translation ability and writing ability; (2) reading habit and writing ability; (3) translation ability and reading habit toward writing ability. The population of the study was the fourth semester in the academic year 2019/2020. The sampling technique used is convenience non random sampling. The researcher used test to obtain the data of students’ translation ability, then questionnaire to obtain the data of students’ reading habit level and test to obtain the data of students’ writing ability. Theresearcher used Product Moment formula to know the coefficient correlation and linear regression to find out the significance correlation. There three results of the study, fist hypothesis, showed that the coefficient of correlation between students’ translation ability (X1) and their writing ability (Y) is higher than 0 (0.9083>0) and linear regression showed that t obtain is higher than t table (10.415 > 2.069). Second hypothesis, showed that the coefficient of correlation between students’ reading habit (X2) and their writing ability (Y) is higher than 0 (0.6939>0) and linear regression showed that t obtain is higher than t table (4.621 > 2.069). Furthermore, the third hypothesis showed that the coefficient of correlation (ryx1x2) between students’ translation ability (X1) reading habit (X2) and their writing ability (Y) is higher than 0 (0.8304>0) and linear regression showed that t obtain is higher than t table (24.443 > 3.44). The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not using POSSE Strategy was to find out whether there was a significant difference in students’ reading comprehension between the students who were taught using POSSE strategy and those who were not. There were 80 tenth-grade students taken as the sample selected using purposive sampling, with one group serving as the experimental class and the other serving as the control class. The writers gave pre-test and post-test for experimental and control classes to collect data. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The experimental group was taught using POSSE strategy, while the control group was taught using the discussion strategy. The experimental group's mean score increased from 68.10 in the pre-test to 75.87 in the post-test. Furthermore, the results of independent t-tests from the experimental and control groups revealed that the t-value obtained was 3.060, which was higher than the t-table value of 1.664. It means that the POSSE strategy was effective in improving reading comprehension achievement of the tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 11 PalembangKeywords:reading comprehension, descriptive text, POSSE  strategy

A quasi-experimental research design used in this study. The participants in this study were students in the eighth grade at SMPN 13 in Palembang. Purposive sampling used to select 60 students for this study. The researchers used a pre-test and post-test method to collect data. The researchers used SPSS to analyze the data and test the hypothesis. When the value of significance (2-tailed) in this study was lower than the significance level (0.000 < 0.05), the Ha was accepted. It means that using Google Classroom had a significant impact on students' achievement in writing descriptive text. However, it can be concluded that Google Classroom significantly enhances the efficiency of teaching students to write descriptive text and assists them in completing and collecting assignments without regard to time or space constraints.
