Abstract

This study was qualitative research action that focuses to find out the flouting of Gricean maxims and the functions of the flouting in the tales which are included in collection of children literature entitled My Giant Treasury of Stories and Rhymes. The objective of the study is generally to identify the violation of maxims of quantity, quality, relevance, and manner in the data sources and also to analyze the use of the flouting in the tales which are included in the book. Qualitative design using categorizing strategies, specifically coding strategy, was applied. Thus, the researcher as the instrument in this investigation was selecting the tales, reading them, and gathering every item which reflects the violation of Gricean maxims based on some conditions of flouting maxims. On the basis of the data analysis, it was found that the some utterances in the tales, both narration and conversation, flouting the four maxims of conversation, namely maxim of quality, maxim of quantity, maxim of relevance, and maxim of manner. The researcher has also found that the flouting of maxims has one basic function that is to encourage the readers’ imagination toward the tales. This one basic function is developed by six others functions: (1) generating specific situation, (2) developing the plot, (3) enlivening the characters’ utterance, (4) implicating message, (5) indirectly characterizing characters, and (6) creating ambiguous setting.Keywords: children literature, tales, flouting maxims

Abstract

This article aimed at describing students’ difficulties in writing research-based paper. It is expected that lecturers who teach research methodology course will get a lot of benefit from this study. The respondents of this research was 131 students who conducted a research which employed qualitative design and wrote their articles which showed the research results. The data gained showed that the university students’ who became the respondents had difficulties in writing research-based article related toqualitative research design. The difficulties were: most of the students showed their difficulties in identifying the research instrument, data sources, and relevant sources that support their research. Next, they were also had obstacle in explaining or discussing the result of their research. It means that they did not understand that qualitative researchdesign employs snowballing technique and enabling the researcher to generate theory.

Abstract

Community service on a group of farmers Farmers Dairy Village Wringinanom Poncokusumo Malang Regency aims to improve the knowledge and skills of farmers in the utilization and processing of potential sources of feed ingredients locally, and then is able and skilled in processing of livestock products as well as the processing of manure waste into organic fertilizer , so as to increase the income and welfare of farmers. IbM program results indicate that the public response duck farmers are very good and enthusiastic for proactive follow the program in all the activities for outreach, training, demoplot, mentoring and evaluation. The existence of these service programs have a positive impact on the environment ie partners provide solutions or alternative solutions to problems faced by groups of farmers in the village and the surrounding community. In the early stages of coordination of activities with the partner group leaders assisted with student involvement. Submission of this extension materials with discussions to evaluate the response of farmers to the material activities and sharing of experiences between the teams servant with targeted partners. The benefits of these activities can increase motivation and attention of farmers to practice the material in accordance with the activities of the problems faced, so that at the end of this activity can be a solution to the problems or difficulties faced by farmers in the field. The visit was also carried out at the end of the activity to evaluate how far the understanding group of farmers against the material provided. Groups of farmers and communities want their sustainable activities, not just stop at the end of this activity alone. Food products, agro-processing and organic fertilizer not only a dream but a reality that they or ranchers are able and can market the results or the products they make. Thus the community service program activities can be an opportunity for them to improve the income and welfare of his life.
