Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the attitude of religious tolerance of the salaf pesantren community affiliated with Nahdlatul Ulama in relation to the religious understanding that develops in pesantren, in this case it is the understanding of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah. The research method used is a qualitative approach with literature studies. The results of this study concluded that pesantren communities are people who understand the concepts of religious tolerance. Since a long time ago, pesantren have always maintained an inclusive religious understanding and accepted various differences in madzhab, thought, and religion. In relation to the diversity of Indonesia in terms of agam, the Pesantren community has first applied the attitude of tasamuh and respect for fellow human beings based on the teachings of Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jama'ah which connects to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. The research is expected to be an epiphany for Muslims, especially to explore the religion of pesantren which clearly teaches kindness and tolerance towards different people. In the future, this diverse Indonesian society can live in harmony in differences. Keywords: Mazhab Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jama'ah, Pesantren, Tolerance

Abstract

This article is a result of a research conducted to examine the interrelation between religion and philosophy and to measure how such interaction is embodied in religious subjects taught in middle-high schools in Indonesia. This is considered important because in Indonesian national education, the religious dimension is regarded fundamental and therefore must be emphasised. The classes are divided based on the students’ religion. In order to prevent such division becomes religious segregation that could lead to practices of intolerance, philosophy is proposed as a rational solution to bridge the discrepancy. This is considered imperative so that in school religion is not understood as an exclusive set of doctrines, but as a subject in education process that brings inclusive and pluralistic attitudes. Three basic and important characteristics are analysed in this article, that is, the breadth of perspective about God, the openness towards other religions, and the willingness to embrace science in general.

Abstract

Alquran cannot be detached from the chain of history accompanying it. Alquran has always been associated with sacred values it contains. That is it’s fitrah. Hasan Hanafi, born in Cairo, develops a unique hermeneutics to view Alquran as revelation. In safeguarding the originality of the Scripture as much as possible, the potential of reason and thought cannot be avoided as well. For the Scripture is an ideal ‘mirror’ of the expressions of the reality in life together with all the social dynamic continuously approaching the believers. Without the involvement of reason and thought the Scripture might not be so much different from an ‘inscription’, which is passive, cold, and barely engendering things characterised as dialogical and productive. Viewed in its process of descent to human beings, the scriptural revelation is not something suddenly flying and drifting without reason. The revelation is closely related with the reality (of the past) tied up together by Allah. Each verse or set of verses in the Scripture has mirrored solution to particular problem in the banality of individual and communal life. The Scripture is not simply a ‘text’, for it is always breathing ‘context’. By having context, the Scripture cannot be uncoupled from the social reality of the believers who put their trust in it. The Scripture is a text merging with context, which in turn illuminates the believers all around the world.

Abstract

Several types of research on religion in Indonesia emphasise more on religious knowledge and belief and less on other approaches such as material aspects.  Religion is always related to material aspects such as mosque buildings, veils or robes for prayer, or holy water obtained from grave visitors. This study uses embodiment approach and material theory of religion to the imposition of special fashion in prayer that gives consequences on awareness and attitude of a new morality in-group cohesion. This study is a case study through participatory observations and interviews of new members of Syahadatain congregation, Cirebon, Indonesia for three years.  The result of the study shows two significant findings namely first, the establishment of rituals through special fashions exerts an influence on discursive awareness and moral behaviour; and second, the driving factor of the emergence of new moral behaviour from the practice is the social gaze. This study recommends the need for the study of material artifacts such as clothing can be an alternative to the study of religion in Indonesia using the embodiment approach.

Abstract

The problem in this study is to look at the character conditions among the educated today that do not reflect the education itself, so there is a need for an effort to shape the character of the student through character education that educates and guides towards a better direction with such complex challenges. Thus, through the teaching of Islam and the Prophet, it is hoped to improve the quality of the learning process and the learning outcomes of the students, so that they can produce agents of change who behave honestly and well in daily life without being made-made and ready to be generations of noble people. This type of research uses descriptive and qualitative research methods. The data collection methodology used is non-participatory observation, in which researchers are not directly involved in daily activities but rather through observation. Further data collection through structured interviews means that the researchers have prepared the guidelines for the interview in the form of written questions. Hasill's research suggests that there are several things that can shape the character of the student, namely, the methods of equality, cultivation, lecture, and integrity. These methods are used as a reference in order to form the character of a student who has extensive science and noble morality. In the implementation of character values through religious values, nationalist values, integrity, self-reliance, and gotong royong values.

Abstract

Human life today is often faced with various problems ranging from routine, work stress, economic deficiencies and other life problems. The problem will get bigger if not addressed properly. In Islam, humans are taught to draw closer to Allah so that life's problems do not lead to polytheism. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to analyze Al-Ghazali's concept of purification of the soul (tazkiyatun an-nafs) in relation to inner peace. This study used qualitative research methods. The data collection technique in this research is content analysis research. The results of the study concluded that the concept of purification of Al-Ghazali's soul has three stages, namely takhalli, tahalli and tajali. Eliminating the bad qualities that exist in the soul and filling them with good qualities will have an impact on one's way and attitude in dealing with problems. Strong belief in Allah will make a person have inner peace.
