Abstract

The present research was aimed to evaluate an interactive effect of cage density and level ofdietary black cumin (BC) on productive efficiency of broiler chickens. A total of 270 broiler chickens(initial body weight of 163.12 ± 8.10g) were allocated into a completely randomized design with a 3 x 3factorial pattern. The first factor was the cage density (bird/m2) namely, D1 = 8; D2 = 10, and D3 = 12.The second factor was BC level (%), namely, B1 = 1; B2 = 2, and B3 = 3. Feed consumption, bodyweight gain (BWG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), protein digestibility, and income over feed cost(IOFC) were the parameters measured. Data were subjected to ANOVA and continued to Duncan test.No interaction between cage density and black cumin on all parameters was observed. Feedconsumption and FCR were increased, but BWG was lowered significantly (P<0.05) due to the cagedensities of 10 and 12 birds/m2 on weeks 2 and 3. Protein digestibility was significantly increased byfeeding 2 and 3% BC. IOFC decreased significantly (P<0.05) when cage densities were 10 and 12birds/m2. In conclusion, the improvement of productive efficiency of broiler chicken reared at the cagedensity of 12 birds /m2 can be sufficiently achieved by feeding 1% black cumin.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to evaluate the quality and deposition of isoflavones in the egg due to dietary inclusion of isoflavone soy sauce by-product (ISSBP) in laying hens. Experimental animals were 480 birds of 20-week old laying hens of Isa Brown strain, with initial body weight of 1,754 ± 42 g. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD), with four treatments and six replications (20 birds each). The treatments were dietary inclusion levels of isoflavone soy sauce by-product as follows: ISSBP0 = without isoflavones, ISSBP40 = 40 mg/100g, ISSBP80 = 80 mg/100g, and ISSBP120 = 120 mg/100 g feed. Dietary treatments were given for 10 weeks from week 20 until 30-week old. Parameters observed were egg cholesterol and isoflavone isomers in feed, blood, and eggs. Data of total cholesterol and isoflavone in the egg were statistically analysed and isoflavone isomer concentration in feed, blood, and egg were descriptively described. The results showed that feeding ISSBP significantly (P <0.05) decreased cholesterol and increased isoflavones in egg. Total cholesterol content in egg decreased up to 33.8%. However, isoflavones in the yolk were higher (28.9 mg/g) than those in blood (13.75 mg/g), and those deposited into the yolks indicated better quality because containing more aglicons isomers (87.5%), than those in feed (52%) and blood (68.4%). In conclusion, dietary inclusion of ISSBP to laying hens’s decreased cholesterol content and increased isoflavones deposition into the egg with better quality, so that the eggs can function as functional food.

Abstract

This study investigated the effects of different dietary protein levels on the performance and diges-tive tract profile of Wandering Whistling Ducks. A total of 108 5-month-old Wandering Whistling Ducks were reared intensively for three months (one-month rearing and feed adaptation period fol-lowed by two months of dietary intervention). The dietary treatments comprised of three protein levels: T1 12%, T2 15%, and T3 18%. Each treatment consisted of nine replications, with each experimental unit consisted of four Wandering Whistling Ducks. The parameters measured in this study were feed consumption, water consumption, feed-to-water ratio, body weight gain, relative weight and length of digestive organ, villus height, crypt depth, villus-to-crypt ratio, histopathological features, digestive tract pH, and ileal bacteria counts. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance followed by Dun-can’s multiple range test. The results indicated that dietary protein levels significantly affected feed consumption, body weight gain, ileal crypt depth, cecal lactic acid bacteria, and gizzard pH. Other pa-rameters showed no significant response to different protein levels. Based on these findings, it was concluded that a dietary protein level of 18% yielded the most favourable outcomes in terms of growth performance and the digestive tract profile of Wandering Whistling Ducks.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of floor position in a multitier closed house on microcli-matic air quality and litter conditions. Fourteen thousand and five hundred unsexed Ross broiler chick-ens with a DOC body weight of 45.84 ± 2.40 g were placed on each floor of a three-tier closed house and allocated to a randomized block design consisted of 3 treatments and 18 replications. Each floor measured 12x78x2 m3. The maintenance procedure was applied according to the integrated partnership company guidelines PT Tumbuh Optimal Prima, with an observation period of 28 days. The treatments applied were as follows: T1= placement of broiler chickens on the 1st floor, T2= placement of broiler chickens on the 2nd floor, and T3= placement of broiler chickens on the 3rd floor. Microclimate condi-tions (temperature, RH, wind speed, temperature humidity index, wind chill effect, and calculated real feel temperature) and air quality parameters (NH3, CO2, O2, TVOC, and HCHO) were measured daily on each floor. Litter conditions, included water content, litter temperature, NH3 content, pH, and caking were measured weekly. The results revealed that during the starter phase (weeks 1–2), the microclimat-ic conditions and air quality of the 3rd floor were significantly better (P<0.05) than those of the 1st floor and 2nd floor, a trend was continued during weeks 3–4. Notably, the results obtained on the 1st and 2nd floors were still within the normal range for the broiler thermoneutral zone. Conversely, the 3rd floor litter was generally poorer, with significantly higher (P<0.05) moisture content, temperature, and cak-ing than the lower floors, particularly in weeks 3–4. However, broiler placement on different floors did not significantly affect the litter pH (P>0.05). In conclusion, the microclimatic conditions and air quali-ty of the 3rd floor were generally superior to those of the lower floors over the 4-week rearing period, whereas the litter quality was inferior.

Abstract

This study evaluated the effect of a feed additive combination, Morinda citrifolia leaf extract, citric acid, and Lactobacillus acidophilus (MCL) on broiler chicken performance, carcass traits, and litter quality. MCL contains bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, citric acid, and probiotic. A total of 200 broiler chickens (8 days old with average body weight 213.88 ± 8.9 g) were randomly assigned to four treatments with five replications of bird each: T0 (control), T1 (1% MCL), T2 (2% MCL), and T3 (3% MCL). Results showed that T2 significantly improved (P<0.05) body weight gain (BWG) and income over feed cost (IOFC). Water consumption and carcass weight were also higher (P<0.05) in T2. Final body weight was significantly higher (P<0.05) in all MCL treatments compared to T0. Feed conversion ratio improved (P<0.05) in T2 and T3. MCL supplementation enhanced carcass traits and litter quality. Cooking loss was lower (P<0.05) in T2, while drip loss and litter pH were reduced (P<0.05) in all MCL treatments. White striping was higher (P<0.05) in T1, and litter temperature was lower (P<0.05) in T2 and T3. These finding suggest that MCL is a promising natural alternative to synthetic growth promotors, improving productivity and probitability in broiler production.
