Abstract

The objective of the study was to evaluate the quality and deposition of isoflavones in the egg due to dietary inclusion of isoflavone soy sauce by-product (ISSBP) in laying hens. Experimental animals were 480 birds of 20-week old laying hens of Isa Brown strain, with initial body weight of 1,754 ± 42 g. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD), with four treatments and six replications (20 birds each). The treatments were dietary inclusion levels of isoflavone soy sauce by-product as follows: ISSBP0 = without isoflavones, ISSBP40 = 40 mg/100g, ISSBP80 = 80 mg/100g, and ISSBP120 = 120 mg/100 g feed. Dietary treatments were given for 10 weeks from week 20 until 30-week old. Parameters observed were egg cholesterol and isoflavone isomers in feed, blood, and eggs. Data of total cholesterol and isoflavone in the egg were statistically analysed and isoflavone isomer concentration in feed, blood, and egg were descriptively described. The results showed that feeding ISSBP significantly (P <0.05) decreased cholesterol and increased isoflavones in egg. Total cholesterol content in egg decreased up to 33.8%. However, isoflavones in the yolk were higher (28.9 mg/g) than those in blood (13.75 mg/g), and those deposited into the yolks indicated better quality because containing more aglicons isomers (87.5%), than those in feed (52%) and blood (68.4%). In conclusion, dietary inclusion of ISSBP to laying hens’s decreased cholesterol content and increased isoflavones deposition into the egg with better quality, so that the eggs can function as functional food.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of lime juice (LJ) and citric acid (CA) as an acidifier in the step down protein feeding system on the blood lipid profiles. The research was conducted with 192 of 7 days old broiler chickens which were arranged in a completely randomized design with 6 treatments and 4 replications, so overall there were 24 experimental units. Each experimental unit consisted of 8 broiler chickens. Treatments applied were P0 (control diet, without step down), P1 (step down diet), P2 (step down diet + CA 0.8%), P3 (step-down + LJ equivalent to 0,4% CA (6,9 ml/100g feed)),  P4 (step down diet + LJ equivalent to 0,8% CA (13,8 ml/100g feed)) and P5 (step down diet + LJ equivalent to 1,2% CA (20,7 ml/100g feed)). The parameters measured in this research were cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoprotein (LDL)  and high density lipoprotein (HDL) in the blood serum. The results showed that the step-down protein feeding with the addition of acidifier such as synthetic citric acid or lime juice was not significant (P> 0.05) in lowering blood cholesterol levels, triglycerides and LDL and did not result in an increase of serum HDL levels  in broiler chickens.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to examine the effect of adding acidifier with inulin and papain enzymes in the ration on the differential leukocytes in turkeys during the growth period. The research material consisted of 80 male turkeys aged 12 weeks with an average weight of 1165 ± 62.24 g, an acidifier consisting of a mixture of lactic acid, propionic acid, and formic acid, and inulin sourced from dahlia tuber extract and the enzyme papain. The feed ingredients used in this study were corn, soybean meal, fish meal, rice bran, premix, CaCO3, lysine, and methionine. The research design used a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments applied included T0 (control diet/RK), T1 (RK + 1% acidifier), T2 (RK + 1% acidifier + 1.2% inulin), T3 (RK + 1% acidifier + 0.5% papain enzyme), and T4 (RK + 1% acidifier + 1.2% inulin + 0.5% papain enzyme). Parameters measured included heterophiles, lymphocytes, leukocytes, and total plasma protein. Data were analyzed using variance at the 5% level and Duncan's test of significant differences at the 5% level. The results showed that the addition of acidifier with inulin and papain enzymes had a significant effect (p<0.05) on the differential leukocytes (heterophiles, lymphocytes, leukocytes, and total plasma protein). The conclusion is that the addition of 1% acidifier + 1.2% inulin + 0.5% papain enzyme (T4) can maintain the health condition of the body, as observed from the differential leukocytes in male turkeys during the growth period.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of encapsulated dahlia tuber extract and Bacillus subtilis (EdteBs) on intestinal morphology, protein digestibility, and broiler performance. A total of 200 eight-day-old Ross 308 broilers (initial body weight: 194.60 ± 3.46 g) were divided into four dietary treatments with five replications. The treatments were: T0 – basal diet (control) without EdteBs supplementation; T1 – T0 + 0.1% EdteBs; T2 – T0 + 0.2% EdteBs; and T3 – T0 + 0.3% EdteBs. Variables measured included potential hydrogen (pH), lactic acid bacteria (LAB) population, coliform count, villus height, crypt depth, intestinal segment weight and height, protein digestibility, feed intake, body weight gain (BWG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), and income over feed cost (IOFC). Data were analyzed using analysis of variance, followed by Duncan’s test at a 5% significance level (p<0.05). Results showed that EdteBs supplementation at higher levels (T2 and T3) significantly (p<0.05) increased LAB population, villus height, crypt depth, and intestinal segment weight and height, while pH and coliform counts decreased. Protein digestibility and BWG also significantly improved (p<0.05) in T2 and T3. Both feed intake and BWG increased, particularly in T3, contributing to lower FCR and higher IOFC. In conclusion, EdteBs supplementation enhances intestinal morphology, protein digestibility, and broiler performance, with the most effective level at 0.3%.

Abstract

Fatiah, F. N., Krismiyanto, L., & Yunianto, V. D. (2025). Relative Weight of Lymphoid Organs in Broiler Chickens with High Stocking Density Due to the Addition of Microencapsulated Parijoto Fruit Extract–Lactobacillus plantarum in the Diet. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-13 Tahun 2025, Palembangg 20 Oktober 2025. (pp. x–y). Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).This study aimed to evaluate the effect of adding microencapsulated Parijoto fruit extract–Lactobacillus plantarum (MEBPLp) to the diet on the relative weight of lymphoid organs in broiler chickens reared under high stocking density. A total of 308 unsexed Ross strain broilers aged 8 days with an average body weight of 208.42 g were used. The Parijoto fruit extract served as a phytobiotic containing bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, while Lactobacillus plantarum acted as a probiotic to support intestinal health and immune function. The basal diet was composed of ground corn, rice bran, soybean meal, fish meal, limestone, premix, lysine, and methionine. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with three treatments and seven replications, resulting in 21 experimental units. The treatments consisted of T0 (normal density 10 birds/m² without MEBPLp), T1 (high density 17 birds/m² without MEBPLp), and T2 (high density 17 birds/m² with 0.6% MEBPLp). Parameters measured included the relative weights of the bursa of Fabricius, spleen, and thymus. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a 5% significance level, and significant results were further tested using Duncan’s multiple range test. The results showed that the addition of 0.6% MEBPLp significantly (p<0.05) affected the relative weights of the bursa of Fabricius and thymus but had no significant effect (p>0.05) on the spleen. It can be concluded that the inclusion of 0.6% MEBPLp in the diet improved the relative weights of immune organs such as the bursa of Fabricius and thymus in broilers reared under high stocking density, indicating a synergistic effect of phytobiotics and probiotics in enhancing poultry immune responses.
