Abstract

Sweet passion fruit (Passiflora liguralis) plants grow well in Solok district highland. Productive area of theplantation is 3,825 ha with total production of 49,577 tons or equal to Rp 81,802 billions. Passion fruit agribusinessdevelopment in the future considers four aspects of (1) production technology, (2) post harvest, (3) financialfeasibility, and (4) land potential for development. First, two high-yielding varieties of Gumanti and Super Solindahave better characteristics of higher yields, size and quality of fruits, shelf life, and higher selling prices compared tothe variety of ordinary violet flower commonly planted by the farmers. Second, the fruits not qualified for fresh fruitsat household scale could be processed into juice and syrup. Both varieties with certain harvested maturity level andpackaging have longer shelf life for long distance transportation. Third, the farm business was financially feasible asshown by NPV of Rp 26,977,900, B/C ratio of 3.46, and IRR of 40 percent with economic plantation period of 10years. Fourth, there are 10,218 ha of land available for expansion of the plantation in the two main producing subdistricts. In addition, the farmers have planted passion fruit plants in some sub districts in the other highland areas. Allof those aspects are promising, but the policy makers have to pay attention to the aspects of competitive advantageand land conservation. Integrating farm practice improvement, product processing, market enhancement, and landexpansion becomes very strategic in passion fruit agribusiness development as part of regional development.Key words: passion fruit, agribusiness development Markisa manis berkembang baik di wilayah dataran tinggi Kabupaten Solok.

Abstract

Ferrous toxicity is a one of the problems most often found in lowland rice systems in tropical and sub-tropical regionespecially in new paddy field (NPF) on Ultisols and Oxisols. Flooding during rice growth creates a chemicallyreduced state in soils causing reduction of insoluble (Fe3+) to soluble (Fe2+) form even at excessive level. ExcessiveFe2+ uptake is eventually the main cause of iron toxicity. The purpose of this study was to find an appropriateformulation of organic fertilizer Tithonia plus (OFTP) to control the iron toxicity, reduce the application of commercialfertilizers (CF) and increase rice production at various ages of NPF. The field experiment was conducted in farmerfields in Sitiung, Koto Baru sub-district, Dharmasraya district of West Sumatra province. Experimental design usedwas a factorial 2 x 6 in a split plot design. The main plot (A), the age of the opening of NPF were: 0 year;and 2 years;Subplot (B) a formulation of OFTP were: 2 Mg Tithonia ha-1 + 75% of CF; 2 Mg Tithonia ha-1 + 5 Mg rice strawha-1 + 50% of CF; 4 Mg Tithonia ha-1 + 25% of CF and three treatmens without Tithonia i.e. 5 Mg rice straw ha-1 +75% of CF; 2 Mg animal cow manure ha-1 + 75% of CF, and 100% of CF. Liming with 500 kg CaCO3 ha-1were appliedfor all treatments. The results showed the use of OFTP increased the nutrients availability such as N, P, and K onNPF and control the iron toxicity. The appropriate formulation of OFTP to control the iron toxicity and reduced theapplication of chemical fertilizer for higher rice production at NPF were two options: (1) 2 Mg of Tithonia ha-1 + 5 Mgof rice straw ha-1 + 50% of commercial fertilizers; and (2) 2 Mg of Tithonia ha-1 + 75% of commercial fertilizers. In thiscase the reducing of commercial fertilizers application were 50% and 25%, respectively.[How to Cite: Hakim N, Agustian and Y Mala. 2012. Abstract

Abstract

Eco enzyme has nutrients for liquid organic fertilizer. However, the eco enzyme's N, P, K elements are still below the quality standard. Liquid organic fertilizer is disadvantaged in handling, packaging, use, and transportation compared to pellet form. Nutrient levels can be increased through fish bones and rice bran addition. This research aims to determine the characteristics of the best pellets based on Ministry of Agriculture quality standards No. 261/2019, such as length, diameter, density, water content and N, P, K levels. The eco enzyme, water, fish bones, and rice bran’s formula were: C1 (1: 0: 1: 1), C2 ( ¾: ¼: 1: 1 ), and C3 ( ½: ½: 1: 1). Pellets were made by mixing the ingredients with 5% tapioca solution. The tools used to measure pellet length, diameter, and pH were caliper and pH meter. The water content using the gravimetric method. The N, P, and K levels were tested at BALISTA Lembang, Bandung. All formulations’ pellet length and diameter averaged ±12 mm and 4 mm. Water content of C1, C2, and C3 pellets were 8.63%, 8.97%, and 9.18%, respectively. pH of C1, C2, and C3 pellets were 5.7, 5.8, and 5.9, respectively. Particle density for C1, C2, and C3 were 1.37 g/cm3, 1.44 g/cm3, and 1.46 g/cm3, respectively, while the bulk densities were 0.58 g/cm3, 0.63 g/cm3, and 0.64 g/cm3, respectively. The N, P, K levels in C1, C2, and C3 were 5.2%, 4.79% and 4.3%, respectively. C3 is the best formulation. All pellets meet quality standards.
