Abstract

ABSTRACT EFFECT OF THE ADDITION OF RICE BRAN AND CORN FLOUR ON THE PHYSICAL QUALITY OF ENSILAGE ELEPHANT GRASS (Pennisetum purpureumcv.Hawaii). The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of the addition of rice bran and corn flour on the physical quality of elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Hawaii)silage.The present study used elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Hawaii)in the ensilage process. Rice bran and corn flour were then added to the elephant grass in the ensilage processing. The present study used Completely Randomized Design with 7 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments were formulated as follow: R0 = elephant grass 100%; R1 = elephant grass + 8% rice bran; R2 = elephant grass + 12% rice bran; R3 = elephant grass + 8% corn flour; R4 = elephant grass + 12% corn flour; R5 = elephant grass + 4% rice bran + 4% corn flour; R6 = elephantgrass + 6% rice bran + 6% corn flour. The variables measured were physical quality of elephant grass silage, including:  texture, color, and aroma. The research results showed that the addition of rice bran and corn flour did not significantly affect (P>0,01) ensilage color and aroma, but significantly affect (P<0,01) the texture of the ensilage. It can be concluded that the addition of  8% rice bran gave the best result on theensilage textureof elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Hawaii). Abstract

ABSTRACT INTAKE AND DIGESTIBILITY OF YELLOW MANADO AND JAYA 3 HYBRID CORN SRAWS FOR ONGOLE GRADE CATTLE. Experiment was conducted to determine the intake capacity and digestibility of Manado yellow corn straw (MYCS) and Jaya 3 hybrid corn straw (J3HCS) as single feed for Ongole grade cattle (OGC). Five female OGC were used in this experiment, applied into two periods. The animals were fed with MYCS in the first stage and J3HCS in the second stage. The measured variables were including dry matter intake (DMI), dry matter digestibility (DMD), digestibility of crude protein (DCP) and digestibility of Neutral Detergent Fiber (DNDF). The data were analyzed by T test. The results showed that treatment significantly affected (p <0.05) the DMI, DMD, DCP and DNDF. It can be concluded DMI, DMD, DCP and DNDF of MYCS were higher than those of J3HCS.   Key words: Dry matter Intake, Digestibility, Corn straw, Ongole grade cattle.

Abstract

THE EFFECTS OF OFFERING KING GRASS (Pennisetum purpupoides) AND CORN  STOVER ON DRY MATTER AND  ORGANIC MATTER OF ONGOLE CROSS BREED STEER CALVES. A research has been conducted to evaluate the effects of offering king grass (Pennisetum purpupoides) and corn stover as ingredients for ration formulating on dry matter and organic matter digestibility of ongole cross breed steer calves. Five ongole cross breed steer calves with about 100 kg body weight were used in this experiment. Latin square design  with 5 tereatments was used. The treatments were rasio of king grass and corn stover; R1 = 100% king grass, R2 = 75% king grass + 25% corn stover, R3 = 50% king grass + 50% corn stover, R4 = 25% king grass + 75% corn stover, R5 100% corn stover.  The variables measured were dry matter and organic matter digestibility. Analysis of variance showed that there were no significant effect of treatments on dry metter and organic matter digestibility. Averages of dry matter digestibility during experiment ranged 56.27% - 59.48%. The highest was 59.48% for R5 (100% corn stover) and the lowest was 56.27% for R1 (100% king grass). Averages of organic matter ranged from 87.64% to 88.72%. The highest organic matter digestibility was on R4 (25% king grass + 75% corn stover) and the lowest organic matter digestibility was on R2 (75% king grass + 25% corn stover). It can be concluded that the best nutritive value was at combination of 25% king grass + 75% corn stover on dry matter and organic matter digestibility of ongole cross breed steer calves. keywords: king grass, corn stover, digestibility, dry matter, organic matter

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jarak tanam terbaik bagi tanaman sorgum Suri 4 sebagai solusi alih lahan pertanian di Desa Silian guna memaksimalkan hasil sekaligus memberikan solusi praktis atas keterbatasan lahan. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 3 perlakuan yang terdiri dari JT1: jarak tanam 100 cm x 100 cm, JT2: jarak tanam 75 cm x 75 cm dan JT3: jarak tanam 50 cm x 50 cm, masing-masing perlakuan terdiri dari 7 ulangan. Variabel yang diukur yaitu tinggi tanaman, diameter batang, panjang daun, lebar daun dan jumlah daun. Hasil analisis keragaman menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan jarak tanam memberikan pengaruh yang berbeda sangat nyata (P<0,01) terhadap pertumbuhan tanaman sorgum yang terukur melalui tinggi tanaman, diameter batang, panjang daun, lebar daun dan jumlah daun.  Uji Beda Nyata Jujur (BNJ) menunjukkan bahwa jarak tanam 100 cm x 100 cm menghasilkan pertumbuhan yang sangat nyata (P<0,01) lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan jarak tanam 75 cm x 75 cm dan 50 cm x 50 cm. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini yaitu strategi penanaman dapat dilakukan melalui jarak tanam 100 cm x 100 cm sorgum varietas Suri 4 yang memberikan pertumbuhan tertinggi.
