Abstract

Abstract: This present study is aimed at examining whether there is a significant difference in the vocabulary mastery of students who are taught using semantically related words and those who are taught using unrelated words. Quasi Experimental Research is used with Posttest Only Design involving 54 students from two classes. A vocabulary test is constructed as a main instrument. Data of students’ score are analyzed by using Independent T-test. Findings reveal that semantically related words method has positive effects on students’ retention. It is recommended that English teachers implement semantically related words. They should also consider the materials is beneficial for students. Key Words: semantically related words, unrelated words, teaching vocabularyAbstrak: Penelitian ini ini bertujuan untuk menguji keberadaan perbedaan signifikan dalam penguasaan kosakata siswa yang diajar menggunakan semantically related words dan siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan semantically unrelated words. Kuasi Experimental Research digunakan dengan Posttest Only Design dan melibatkan 54 siswa dari dua kelas. Sebuah tes kosakata dibangun sebagai instrumen utama. Data skor siswa dianalisis dengan menggunakan Independent T-test. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa semantically related words memiliki efek positif pada retensi siswa. Disarankan agar guru bahasa Inggris menerapkan semantically related words. Mereka juga harus mempertimbangkan materi-materi yang bermanfaat bagi siswa.Kata kunci: semantically related words, unrelated words, pengajaran kosakata

Abstract

Abstract: This study is intended to develop a textbook for pre-service flight attendant students having training in the flight attendant training center. The developed textbook is based on the existing syllabus and need analysis period. The developmental research from Borg and Gall is implemented. The needs survey is implemented to pre-service students, ESP teachers in Sekar Gegani, and experienced flight attendants. The developed product contains ten units related to actual working atmosphere in-flight. They are: 1) Pre-flight briefing 2) Boarding, 3) Announcement 4) Before Take-off, 5) Meal Service, 6) Dealing with problem, 7) Sales on board, 8) Emergency, 9) Disembarking, and 10) Getting a job. Key Words: Textbook, ESP, Pre-service flight attendantsAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan buku untuk calon pramugari yang sedang menempuh pendidikan di lembaga pendidikan dan pelatihan. Buku dikembangkan berdasarkan syllabus yang ada dan temuan pada fase need analisis. Penelitian pengembangan berdasarkan teori Borg and Gall. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop supplementary multimedia-based listening materials for seven grade students in second semester using scientific approach Curriculum of 2013. The research design of this study adapted the framework of developmental model by Dick and Carey (2001) with the multimedia-based materials development model by Kinney and Bruck (2009). The final product of this study was in macromedia flash file attached inside CDs/DVDs. The result of product evaluation and try-out showed that the materials were interestingly presented in terms of topics, listening activities and animations. Moreover, it was also able to motivate students to learn listening.   Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengembangkan materi menyimak berbasis multimedia sebagai materi tambahan untuk siswa kelas VII SMP pada semester kedua yang menggunakan scientific approach Kurikulum 2013. Penelitian ini mengadopsi model pengembangan Dick dan Carey (2001) dan model pengembangan materi berbasis multimedia oleh Kinney dan Bruck (2009). Produk akhir dari penelitian ini berupa macromedia flash yang dapat diakses melalui CD/DVD. Hasil dari validasi produk serta try-out menunjukkan bahwa materi yang disajikan menarik dari segi topik, ragam aktifitas menyimak dan animasi. Selain itu, materi juga dapat memotivasi siswa untuk belajar menyimak.

Abstract

This study is aimed to produce E-module of writing a report for students of Food Processing Technology study program who join apprenticeship program. This study was a research and development method that was adapted from Borg and Gall (1996), and Latief (2014), to be precise (1) investigation of problem identification, (2) developing materials, (3) experts validation, (4) product try out, and (5) final product. The result of development was four units that were (1) Aspects of writing, (2) Planning, (3) Drafting, (4) Revising and Editing employing Writing Process Approach. The product was as the supplementary materials in the form of PDF File that used deductive learning in each unit providing explanation, examples (models), and practices. This result of this study is benefit for the students’ independent learning in writing their apprenticeship report. Recommendations for the future researcher are also discussed.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan E-modul penulisan laporan untuk mahasiswa Program Studi Teknologi Pengolahan Pangan yang mengikuti program magang. Penelitian ini merupakan metode penelitian dan pengembangan yang diadaptasi dari Borg and Gall (1996) dan Latief (2014), tepatnya (1) investigasi identifikasi masalah, (2) pengembangan materi, (3) validasi ahli, (4) produk dicoba, dan (5) produk akhir. Hasil pengembangan adalah empat unit, yaitu (1) aspek penulisan, (2) perencanaan, (3) penyusunan, (4) revisi dan pengeditan yang menggunakan Pendekatan Proses Penulisan. Produk itu sebagai bahan pelengkap berupa PDF yang menggunakan pembelajaran deduktif di setiap unit yang memberikan penjelasan, contoh (model), dan praktik. Hasil penelitian ini bermanfaat bagi pembelajaran mandiri siswa dalam menulis laporan magang mereka. Rekomendasi untuk peneliti masa depan juga dibahas.

Abstract

This study investigated passive voice use in theses of Graduate EFL students, Universitas Negeri Malang. The occurrences of passive voice in research method chapter in two time periods, 1985 - 2000 and 2002 – 2015 were compared. Passive voice occurrence in chapter of research method was also investigated then it was compared with the active. Passive voice occurrence in theses before 2002 investigated which was 1458, and 1171 in theses published after 2000 indicated the fact that today passive voice use in scientific writing indeed less frequent compared to the past. In addition, unlike the findings of some previous studies that claimed passive voice occurrence is still more dominant than the active in method section of scientific writing, this study found that, even in chapter of research method, active voice today occurs more frequently. It was 1883 occurrences of active voice and 1171 of passive voice were found.
