Abstract

Abstract: It is believed that teaching  and  learning  experiences  that  involve the learner  actively in practical examples are engaged longer than theoretical experiences. Instructional resources are teaching aids or media used to help teachers and students in classroom interaction. These aids help teachers to provide fun, interesting and enjoyable platform (effective presentation) to convey information of a given topic as a means of motivating students to achieve their learning objectives. In general, the present study aims to find out how the teachers in Rijalul  Ghad  Islamic school  in  Kera  island,  Kupang  regency, East Nusa Tenggara  Province, Indonesia utilized waste materials to support their teaching and learning process in the classroom. The data were collected using classroom observation, semi-structured interview with the teachers as well as the students as the respondents and a list 15-item of questions about the level of application in utilizing instructional media addressed to the teachers and the students. This study reveals that the students were active during the application of the instructional media using waste materials such as papers and drinking mineral bottles. In addition, during the application of the teaching and learning aids, the students also learnt how to work in team during group discussion and how to appreciate other’s opinion. However, a support on the use of teaching aids, especially teacher’s made (or teacher-students’ made) need to be increased among teachers. This is because, not all teachers are able to utilize waste materials in to instructional media

Abstract

This study investigated the effects of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) derived from tofu wastewater enriched with organic nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) on the growth and yield of green bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) plants. The research was conducted from June to August 2024 on farmers’ land in Noekele, Tuatuka Subdistrict, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. A Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was employed, consisting of six LOF concentration treatments: 0% (control), 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%, each replicated four times. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), and significant differences among treatments were further examined using the Honest Significant Difference (HSD) test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the 5% LOF concentration had the most significant positive effect. At six weeks after planting, this treatment resulted in the tallest plants (191.12 cm), the highest number of pods per plant (23.75), the longest pods (16.14 cm), the greatest pod weight per plant (238.52 g), and the highest average pod weight (10.04 g). These findings suggest that applying LOF from tofu wastewater enriched with organic N, P, and K at a 5% concentration can significantly enhance green bean growth and productivity. Keywords: green bean, tofu wastewater, liquid organic fertilizer (LOF), organic nutrients, plant growth, yield

Abstract

Abstract

As Indonesia’s education system adopts the Independent Curriculum, the promotion of learner autonomy has attained renewed importance, particularly in English language education. While the theoretical advantages of learner autonomy are well-established, empirical research examining how EFL teachers in rural Indonesian contexts perceive and implement this concept remains limited. This study looked into the views and self-reported practices of 40 in-service EFL teachers from rural schools in Kupang Regency within the framework of the Independent Curriculum. Data were obtained using structured questionnaires and open-ended reflections. The findings indicate that although teachers generally express positive attitudes toward the value of learner autonomy, many participants demonstrated limited theoretical understanding and lacked the pedagogical strategies necessary for fostering autonomy in their classrooms. While a majority believed that promoting learner autonomy is feasible, their justifications often relied on general assumptions—such as potential improvements in language proficiency—rather than a concrete understanding of how autonomy can be integrated into classroom practice. These findings highlight the need for targeted professional development that equips teachers with both conceptual knowledge and practical tools aligned with the goals of the Independent Curriculum.
