Abstract

This study investigated the misapplication of the simple past tense formula by 43 students who attended the Basic English course at the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Economics and Business, Bina Sarana Informatics University. The research data was obtained from the analysis of participants' recount text writing exercises to evaluate their ability to understand the formula. The research method applied is qualitative descriptive. Research findings show one common mistake that often arises, namely in the use of sentence elements that do not conform to the simple past tense formula. The error comes from students' negligence and lack of accuracy when completing assignments, as well as the tendency to mix past tense formulas with other tenses. Data collection is carried out through direct observation of student activities. The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of common mistakes in the application of simple past tense formulas, especially in the context of teaching basic English in a university environment.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of video assignments as a tool for learning English, particularly in the English for Business course. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this research focuses on the experiences and perceptions of 20 management students from Universitas BSI who completed video assignments on sales and marketing topics. The findings reveal that video assignments significantly enhance students' language skills and confidence. Students faced various challenges, including technical issues and language barriers, but these were overcome through practice and resource utilization. The study highlights the importance of guidance and feedback from lecturers to support students in overcoming these challenges. Overall, video assignments are deemed an effective method for improving students' English language skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis kesalahan peserta didik saat mengaplikasikan formula simple present tense pada bentuk kalimat positif, negatif dan kalimat tanya. Hasil penelitian diambil dari jawaban-jawaban latihan peserta didik, dan hasil tersebut digunakan sebagai tolak ukur kemampuan peserta didik dalam memahami formula dasar simple present tense. Penelitian tentang kesalahan penggunaan formula simple present tense ini diteliti secara deskriptif kualitatif dengan melibatkan 28 mahasiswa khususnya dalam mata kuliah dasar umum Bahasa Inggris Dasar. Dalam penelitian tercatat ada dua kesalahan umum yang sering ditemukan, diantaranya yaitu kesalahan penghilangan dan kesalahan penggunaan elemen kalimat yang tidak sesuai dengan formula simple present tense. Kesalahan tersebut umumnya terjadi karena kelalaian mahasiswa dalam mengerjakan tugas dan sebagian lain terjadi karena ketidakcermatan mahasiswa dalam menggunakan formula simple present tense dengan kalimat yang disusun, sehingga terkadang formulanya tercampur dengan tenses lain. Penelitian ini diterapkan pada 1 kelas, Jurusan Manajemen, Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis, Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi langsung kepada mahasiswa yang terlibat.

Abstract

In this study researchers tried to develop a teaching pattern in the basic English language classes. The development of this pattern will focus in the form of exercises using audio visual or video media. Hopefully from this improvement material will arouse the curiosity of the participants, compared to the pattern of text exercises such as multiple choice or commonly found essays. The use of video as an English language training material turned out to be used as a benchmark for the competency of teaching participants, especially in terms of listening, writing and translation. The three aspects of the study were tested simply through a video material that researchers downloaded from youtube.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis pemanfaatan materi kuliah sebagai bahan latihan membaca dan pengucapan bahasa Inggris dalam pembelajaran daring. Hasil latihan digunakan sebagai tolak ukur kemampuan peserta didik melalui metode perekaman hasil bacaan. Penelitian tentang kesalahan pengucapan ini diteliti secara deskriptif kualitatif dengan melibatkan 49 mahasiswa khususnya dalam mata kuliah dasar umum Bahasa Inggris II. Dalam penelitian tercatat ada 16 kata yang kerap diucapkan salah oleh mahasiswa. Kesalahan tersebut umumnya terjadi karena interfensi Bahasa Indonesia yang secara tidak sengaja terucap saat membaca teks berbahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini diterapkan pada 2 kelas dengan mata kuliah yang sama pada mahasiswa semester 2, Jurusan Sistem Informasi, Fakultas Teknik dan Informatika, Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi langsung kepada mahasiswa yang terlibat.
