Abstract

There are four skills in English, namely listening, speaking, reading and writing. Reading as one of the skills in teaching English plays important roles in English. This research aims to find out the reading habit, the reading techniques known and used by the students and the problems facing by the students of Politeknik Negeri Ujung Pandang in reading comprehension. The population of the research is the students of Mechanical Engineering Department of Politeknik Negeri Ujung Pandang. While the samples of the research are the D4 Manufacturing Engineering and D4 Mechatronics Engineering students. The total number of the students is 45. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive analysis. This method is used as a procedure to solve the problems which are observed. To get the data for the research, a questionnaire is used to find out the reading habit, the reading techniques and the problems faced by the students. The questionnaire comes in form of semi-open-ended where besides providing some options for each number; the students are also given a chance to give their own answer or opinion.

Abstract

Plastic extrusion machine is a tool to carry out the process of extrusion or formation by utilizing plastic blockage by using high temperatures for the process of melting and reshaping with mold into a certain form, where the drive used in the extrusion machine is a power thread formed in such a way as to be able to conduct or move the material. Extrusion machine made with the principle of horizontal shape and use screw conveyor as a material drive in the extrusion process. Extrusion Machine uses HDPE pellets as a test material to print filaments with a attached specification of 31.81 rpm of speed and 915 watt of element band heater power. The process of designing an extrusion machine with the screw conveyor was using standard flight or standard blade, on the grounds that the screw or thread only serves to move the material to the end of the nozzle. The screw conveyor size is 500 mm long, screw diameter is 50 mm and the distance between pitches is 25 mm followed by the dimensions of the machine is 800 x 400 x 600 mm. The test results were conducted using HDPE polyethylene pellet material with variable temperature variations consisting of 5 types of temperature, namely, 120 ° C, 110 ° C, 110 ° C, 95 ° C and 90 ° C, form the five variables above we conducted trials on each temperature. Then we got it and we concluded that the experiment using the temperature variable of 100 ° C has the most optimum output results, where the temperature of 120 ° C and 110 ° C has a liquid output result then the temperature of 90 ° C and 95 ° C has a condition where the material dries too quickly and make the nozzle clogged.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan serat alam dalam perkembangan ilmu dan teknologi pada era saat ini mulai berkembang. Salah satu serat alam yang potensial dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan penguat komposit adalah eceng gondok. Dalam beberapa penelitian bahan serat alam sebagai penguat bahan komposit memiliki keterbatasan-keterbatasan tertentu tergantung dari jenis seratnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sifat mekanis material sandwich aluminium/komposit eceng gondok. Komposit eceng gondok menggunakan resin epoxy sebagai matrik dan serat batang eceng gondok sebagai penguat dengan susunan serat acak. Komposit eceng gondok dibuat dengan menggunakan cetakan 200x200x4 mm. Perbandingan fraksi massa antara matrik dan serat yaitu 96% matrik dan 5% serat. Ukuran serat penguat eceng gondok terdapat 3 variasi yaitu 2x1 cm, 3x1 cm dan 4x1 cm. Sedangkan matrik  digunakan perbandingan antara resin dan hardnener 60%:40%. Standar spesimen uji komposit eceng gondok dan material sandwich mengacu pada ASTM D 638-02 type I untuk uji tarik dan ASTM D 790-02 untuk uji lentur. Hasil pengujian sifat mekanik komposit eceng gondok diperoleh kekuatan tarik tertinggi pada ukuran serat 4x1 cm sebesar 53.60 MPa. Kekuatan lentur tertinggi pada komposit eceng gondok sebagai material core sandwich diperoleh pada ukuran serat 4x1 cm dengan nilai 22.66 MPa. Adapun hasil pengujian sifat mekanik material sandwich aluminium/eceng gondok diperoleh nilai kekuatan tarik tertinggi pada material core ukuran serat eceng gondok 3x1 cm sebesar 53,64 N/mm2 dan kekuatan lentur tertinggi pada ukuran serat eceng gondok 3x1 cm sebesar 41,07 N/mm2
