Abstract

Ferns weed is a plant that is widely available in the oil palm plantation that grows as a parasite on the trunks of palm oil and will result in decreased quality of fresh fruit bunches, These ferns can be used as compost material because it contains enough nutrients. The composting process is done by adding chicken manure and effective microorganism (EM-4) as well as liquid waste palm oil mill (LCPMKS) as an activator.Analysis of compost quality is determined by the parameters water content, pH and C/N ratio for 30 days and analyzed every 5 days composting time. The results showed that the addition of EM-4 activator on kompostidak mixture gives a real difference to the control sample on the value of C / N ratio with a P value> 0.05The compost produced memliliki pH value, water content and C/N ratio, respectively for 8, 40-52% dan17-19 after 30 days of composting time.

Abstract

The composting process using  oil palm solid wastes (EFB),  palm oil mill effluent (POME), fern tree using effective microorganism 4 (EM 4) has been  conducted and this would facilitate  reduction of  the wastes from palm oil industry. The aim of this research was to find the best formulation using oil palm wastes, ferns, and EM 4 in producing a composted  material. The quality of compost was determined according toits pH, water content and C/N ratio at each 5 days for 30 days composting period. The water content of sample was determined using Gravimetri methode, while total-N was analyzed by Kjeldahl methode. The result indicated  that  co-composting of EFB andferns  using POME and EM-4 as the activators didn’t have  significance difference compared with that of  the composting products with the value of P>0,05. The value of pH, water and C/N ratio of composting products were respectively 7-8, 40-60% and 1314, following 30 days composting period.

Abstract

Goat bone waste had not been used optimally up till now it is only used as handicraft. Chemically the goat bone contains 22% of organic matrix that is possible to be used as a raw material for activated charcoal. The activated charcoal of goat bone was made of through two stages that are carbonization at a temperature of 700oC and activation using Na2CO3 with various concentration of 2,5%; 5,0% and 7,5% at a temperature 800oC. From characterization, it was obtained that activation using 5,0% Na2CO3 gave a good characteristics with the value of moisture content is 7,5269%, ash content is 19,1423%, the adsorption of iodine is 200,2239 mg/g and a surface area is 91,1557 m2/g. The activated charcoal at a concentration of 5,0% Na2CO3 was used to adsorp ions of iron, cadmium, chloride and sulfate based on various concentration of 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600 ppm that were contacted for 24 hours. The optimum adsorption ability of the activated charcoal of goat bone was obtained at a concentration of 200 ppm with the adsorption cations of iron ions (99,8875%) and cadmium ions (99,9609% ) that were analyzed using an Atomic Absorption of Spectrophotometer (AAS), while sulfate ions (77,7976%) that was analyzed using a UV-VIS Spectrophotometer. However, the adsorption of activated charcoal goat bone was not good enough for chloride ions (11,9528%) that was analyzed by Argentometry (Mohr) method.

Abstract

Buffalo bone is a waste material that has not been used optimally. One alternative utilization is used as an adsorbent in the form of activated charcoal. Activated charcoal is obtained through the activation process by using Na2CO3 with optimum concentration of 5%. The results of  the  characterization  of  water content, ash content, iodium adsorption and surface area  are  5,66%; 10,21%; 207,48  mg/g  and  5,1058  m2/g respectively.  Activated charcoal adsorption capability is  potentially used for cation adsorption of Fe3+ and Pb2+ by 99,93 and 99,94%, that were analyzed using AAS. Futhermore, adsorption of SO42- ions is 52,93% that was analyzed using a UV-Vis  spectrophotometer. On the other hand, it is  not good enough for Cl- ion uptake that is 10% which was analyzed using methods Argentometry Mohr.

Abstract

Calcium oxide was a major component in bone ash. This calcium oxide has relativelyopened structure, so it can be used as an adsorbent. Its adsorption ability on sulfate ionhas been analyzed in an solution. The analysis of sulfate ion was carried out usingSpectrophotometer UV-VIS by turbidimetry method. The results showed thatconcentration of bone ash affected to the adsorption of sulfate ion with optimumadsorption of 80.833% at 10 ppm of bone ash.

Abstract

Kepok banana  (Musa  paradisiaca)  peel  waste contain sugar that can  be  changed  to acetic acid using Effective Microorganism (EM-4), kombucha (KO), cassava yeast (RT) and instant yeast  (RI)  (commercial  starter). The Commercial  starter  contains variety of bacteria and yeasts  with different content of microorganism  that will influence  the amount of ethanol  produced.  The aim of this study  to  determine the  potential of kepok banana peel  waste used as the main material  in synthesis  of acetic acid using commercial  starter.  Based on the  fermentation  results  using  the four starter,  cassava yeast  has  a  good  ability  to  be  fermented.  The acetic acid formation was  obtained  under condition which substrate and starter amount are 80% w/v and 5 grams respectively and fermentation  time  4  day.  Based on these conditions  it was found that the amount of organic acid total  determined  by  titrimetric  method  is  4.712±0.066%  and  acetic  acid formed which was determined by Ion Chromatography method is 0.7507± 0.0538%.

Abstract

Coconut oil was produced by using enzyme protease of latex from bird papaya fruit with concentration from 0,1% to 15%. Protease was gained from bird papaya fruit and protease effectivity was identified from some analysis parameters according to SNI No 01-3741-1995 for cooking oil and SNI No. 01-2902-1992 for coconut oil. Optimum concentration of protease recovery was found at 1,5%, 29% (v/v) oil number; 0,24% (w/w) water content; 0,1% (w/w) impurities content; 7,6% (w/w) iodine number; 250,5% saponification content; 1,1% peroxide number; 4.45% (w/w) free fatty acid. The coconut oil has fulfill the National-Atandard analysis (SNI).
