Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh maraknya isue ujaran kebencian dan konflik sosial sebagai konten di media sosial, yang ternyata berdampak pada kekacauan dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat. Di Indonesia ujaran kebencian telah mampu merubah perilaku masyarakat, merubah suasana damai menjadi ketakutan, kerukunan menjadi intoleran, saling curiga, dan memunculkan konflik antar kelompok secara terbuka. Penelitian yang mengambil obyek pemuda Surakarta ini mendeskrisikan perubahan pengetahuan, sikap dan perilaku pemuda Surakarta sebagai dampak paparan isue multikulturalisme dalam konten media sosial. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik focus group discussion serta wawancara mendalam terhadap informan terpilih secara purposive. Analisis dilakukan secara interaktif selama proses penelitian. Kesimpulan penelitian menunjukkan ada beragam dampak di kalangan pemuda Surakarta terkait isue multikulturalisme dalam konten media sosial.                                                                              This research is motivated by the rise of the issue of utterances of hatred and social conflict as content on social media, which is questioned about how to deal with difficulties in society. In Indonesia the utterances of hatred have been able to change society, turn peace into difficulties, harmony becomes intolerant, mutual suspicion, and openly conflicts between groups arise. The research that took the object of the Surakarta youth described the changes in the knowledge, attitudes and behavior of Surakarta youth in response to the issue of multiculturalism in social media content. Data collection was carried out with focus group discussion techniques and interviews with informants selected purposively. Analysis is carried out interactively during the research process. The conclusions of the study indicate that there is a variety among Surakarta youths regarding the issue of multiculturalism in social media content.

Abstract

The background of this research is to find out the intercultural communication of non-Javanese students in facing culture shock in The Department of Communication Science at Slamet Riyadi University, Surakarta. Initially, they felt strange and foreign, and some even felt uncomfortable, but now they are very comfortable living in Solo. This study aims to gather information and analyze how non-Javanese students communicate interculturally when facing culture shock. The design of this research is qualitative with a case study approach where the results of this research are described qualitatively. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews and observations The results of the study explain that non-Javanese students feel comfortable living in Solo after experiencing culture shock which goes through four stages, namely feeling very happy to be in a new place, not feeling at home and comparing things, adapting to the new environment and feeling very comfortable in Solo like in their own hometown.
