Abstract

The article examines the dynamics of political Islam of the Arabian Peninsula in 1800-1930 and their influence to the foundation of the Modern Saudi Arabia Kingdom and their impact to religious practices in the Holy Land. The study is considered important due to the changing phenomenon of religious under-standing in the Holy Land. A new orthodox ideology has been able to change the well-established traditional understanding and become a dominant school until nowadays. The study concludes that: 1) Socio-political constellation of Hijaz before 19th century had been marked by the decrease of political supremacy of Hijaz along with far migration of the Islamic governmental center from Madinah; 2) One of the culminations of political dynamics of the Arabian Peninsula between 1800 and 1930 was the establishment of the Modern Saudi Arabia Kingdom; 3) Such political dynamics have subsequently resulted in the purification of Islamic sharî‘ah in accordance with the Wahabi’s doctrines, obliteration of the tradition of four maqâmât in Masjid al-H{arâm, conformation of Islamic education with the Wahabi’s dogmas, and the increase of orthodoxy and the decrease of popular Sufi’s credo.

Abstract

The study of the Qur’an among Western thinkers seems not monolithic. In the real of orientalists who use historical analysis to respond Islam with a negative value, such as regarding the Qur’an none more than an epigonal text and not much left to be known about the Qur’an. Meanwhile, a positive understanding toward Qur’an has done by some of them, such as Angelika Neuwirth. The differences are more based on Angelika’s attempt to convey a truly contextual reading of the Qur’an, not contenting its self with dissolving the Qur’an into its Christian, Jewish, and other “sources”, but to allow for the possibility that the Qur’an may turn out to be a text of its own.

Abstract

This article intends to examine the concept of rational theological concepts in Islam with a focus on the thoughts of Harun Nasution. Harun Nasution is a controversial Islamic reformer. His idea was born as a response to and against the traditional ideas that developed at that time; even Harun Nasution dared to go against the flow of traditional ethics that according to him had long been rusty and difficult to remove. The emphasis of this paper is on the presentation of Harun Nasution's progressive thinking in the Islamic theological concept and tts importance in advancing Indonesian Islamic civilization. Thus, the qualitative method will be employed in this work, along with a historical study approach gleaned from books, journals, and related publications. The essence of Harun Nasution’s theory is the realization that Islam is a universal rational religion, and that via rational theology, people can fully comprehend the meaning of revelation in both the Qur'an and the Hadith. To build the Islamic Ummah such that it always exists exclusively through forming a rational society, a renewal movement through education is required.

Abstract

Political differences between Islamic Traditionalists and Secular Modernists have resulted in massive progress in the landscape of Islamic political thought. This is highlighted by the formation of a third group, which differs from the traditionalist and secular perspectives on Islamic politics. Fazlur Rahman, who established himself as the neo-modernists' spokesperson, is one of the key figures in this category. This study aims to analyze Fazlur Rahman’s view regarding the Islamic concept of the state, seems more inclined to argue that Islam neither commands nor teaches clearly about the constitutional system but acknowledges that there are a number of values and ethics in the Qur'an. Thus, the qualitative method will be employed in this work, along with a historical study approach gleaned from books, journals, and related publications. This study discovered that Fazlur Rahman's idea of an Islamic state seems to be a somewhat flexible formulation, not too stringent given specific circumstances. This type of formulation will avoid differences of opinion among Muslims, which can lead to the non-recognition of friendly countries as Islamic countries due to different visions, both due to differences in theological schools of thought and schools of law, as well as strategies for implementing and fostering them.

Abstract

The terms al-Zulumat and al-Nur, which are both derived from the Qur'an, are discussed in this article. There is a strong relationship between these two phrases. When these two words are mentioned together, the word al-Zulumat always appears in the plural form while the word Al-Nur always appears in the Singular form, which shows that this Qur'anic phrase identifies the plural or singular form based on the source or origin of the word. In research on the lafadz al-Zulumat and al-Nur, the Munasabah verses approach which does not delve beyond the meaning of a word explanation is frequently utilized. As a result, the author's methodological strategy for conducting this field research comprises a semantic-linguistic analysis of both phrases. This literature study uses qualitative research methods, by collecting various data from books, journal articles and other relevant documents related to the semantic topic of the Al-Qur'an. The aim of this research is to examine the secrets contained in the words al-Zulumat which are often compared with the words al-Nur. This article is important for exploring the linguistic and rhetorical special that exists in Al-Qur'an phrases, especially in the words al-Zulumat and Al-Nur.

Mental health issues in today’s world are a major concern that must be addressed. Tazkiyah al-nafs emerges as a significant answer to the problem in this context. Tazkiyah al-nafs is primarily concerned with purifying the soul, cleansing the heart of desire and greed, and bringing one closer to Allah. Abu Bakar Atjeh, a well-known Indonesian scholar, believes that tazkiyah al-nafs is one of the most effective medications for people suffering from mental health conditions. Hence, this article aims to explore the concept of tazkiyah al-nafs by Abu Bakar Atjeh and its relevance in addressing mental health problems.
