The era of modernization of social media has always been associated with teenagers, especially those on Facebook. This social media can be used as a medium to show their existence. The language used for communication interactions varies. The purpose of this study is to identify the choice of language codes used by students in the Islamic Modern Assalaam Islamic Boarding School in Indonesia in their communication interactions. This research is a qualitative in nature. The data under investigation are students’ conversations on Facebook, which are particularly related to the choice of codes. Data collection includes observation, field notes, and interviews. This research analysis employs the components of the Hymes (SPEAKING) speech. The research results demonstrate that the choice of language codes used by students to communicate in social media involves Indonesian, Arabic, English, and Javanese. The development of technology can make communication effective for students. Besides, that can drive the changes in behavior and language they use. The significance of this research is that there are bilingualism/multilingualism phenomena through the use of Indonesian, Arabic, and English, which is proven not to shift the local language (Javanese), let alone destroying local language as a mother tongue.

This study aims to train English language skills for Akparta students to be proficient in English. The research methods used include presentations, lectures, observations and discussions. The results showed that the level of English mastery of the Surakarta Akparta students had progressed in speaking English. Community service activities carried out at Akparta Surakarta are helpful for students to improve their English language competence so that students can become professional tourism workers

The goal of the community service entitled Introduction to English through songs at TPQ Al Kautsar 1 is to introduce English vocabulary through songs to improve students' comprehension of English. English song content taught at TPQ Al Kautsar 1 has never been obtained. The first stage was to conduct a series of English language introduction activities for pupils using songs to train pupils at TPQ Al Kautsar. Community service increased pupils' English comprehension. TPQ Al Kautsar pupils, based on observations made by the community service team, there are indications of increased English comprehension among pupils at TPQ Al Kautsar 1.

This study aims to improve students' competence in writing children's stories. The research methods used lectures, observations, and discussions. The results showed that the level of competence in writing children's stories for STIA-ASMI students had progressed. Community service activities in the STIA-ASMI SOLO environment are very useful for STIA-ASMI SOLO students to improve their ability in writing children's stories

The aim of the study to describe the functions of language in communication of the female santri of Takhashushiyyah Schools at Assalaam Islamic Modern Boarding School and Islam Al-Mukmin Boarding School of Ngruki, Sukoharjo Regency. They were collected through observation, recording, listening, note-taking, and in-depth interview. The result shows that the languages or codes in both boarding schools function as the media to convey the sense of solidarity, to establish intimacy among speakers and addressees, to introduce themselves, to convey their intents, and to show their identity, as opening and closing language in religious activities and language of teaching and learning interactions, and as language for foreign language training of the santri, as language of intimacy, gossiping, and identity, as language of unity, functioned for quoting and emphasizing the contents of messages, as language habit and for admiration, information-delivery, prestige impression, preserving local language, creation of religious impression, intimacy, reference, and respect

This research aims to find out Javanese form and its relationship between locutor and interlocutor. This research is qualitative in nature. The location of this research is in the Surakarta Hadiningrat palace. The language variation used in this research is daily activity and official palace ceremonies. The data are derived from the verbal interaction among society of kraton in formal and informal situation. The data were collected by recording, observing, interviewing technique. The analysis data used Hymes, ethnography method communication. The result of the research shows that the Javanese forms consists of ngoko, madya, krama, krama inggil, kedhaton and even Indonesian. Related to the relation between locator and interlocutor, the form of Javanese affected by the horizontal and vertical relation accordance with social status in the palace. The pattern of using ngoko, madya, krama has changed, moreover when Indonesian has been their repertoire.

Language choice is an important in a sociolinguistics study. It is affected by social differences of the participants, seting, and topics, etc. This study is aimed to describe language choice in English language teaching at Akparta Surakarta. The data source of this research is conversation of teacher and student, student and student in the classroom. The method used was descriptive-qualitatif method. The result of the study finds that standard language and non-standard language used in English language teaching in Akparta Surakarta to communicate between the teacher and student, student and student. There are several factors that affect the language choice, such as participant, setting, topics, and purpose of the speaking.

The aim of the research to describe the forms of radio broadcaster code mixing in ex-Karesidenan Surakarta. Data collection used by observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis using a contextual approach. The results showed that outer code mixing and inner code mixing. Outer code mixing from Indonesian into English and Korean and inner code mixing into from Indonesian into Javanese. It is influenced by modern technology, to find out the special term, to increase competency of foreign language.

AbstrakTerjadi pro dan kontra terhadap pendirian pabrik semen di Pegunungan Kendeng, Rembang yang akan dibangun oleh PT. Semen Indonesia. Berita mengenai pendirian pabrik semen tersebut ramai dibicarakan di media massa, terutama di dunia maya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan mengenai struktur teks dalam berita senandung pilu kartini kendeng menolak pabrik semen, mendeskripsikan kognisi sosial, dan konteks sosial dalam berita senandung pilu kartini kendeng menolak pabrik semen. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah teks yang terdapat dalam media online kompas pada tanggal 14 April 2016. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan studi pustaka, teknik simak dan catat. Data dianalisis berdasarkan AWK dengan model Teun A. Van Dijk. Dari hasil penelitian dapat ditunjukkan bahwa struktur teks dalam Senandung Pilu “Kartini Kendeng” Menolak Pabrik Semen dalam media online kompas menggambarkan pemerintah sebagai penguasa secara positif dan menggambarkan secara negatif kepada para petani sebagai pihak yang mengkritik terhadap pendirian pabrik semen di Pegunungan Kendeng. Kognisi sosial yang digambarkan dalam berita mengenai penolakan pabrik semen dapat diketahui dari jenis pengetahuan kebudayaan dan pengetahuan kelompok. Sedangkan analisis konteks sosial pemerintah masih memiliki kekuasaan dan akses serta terdapat pro dan kontra. dari masyarakat yang mendukung keputusan pemerintah untuk mendirikan pabrik semen di Pegunungan Kendeng.Kata kunci : analisis wacana kritis, berita, media online AbstractThere have been pros and cons to the establishment of a cement plant in the Kendeng Mountains, Rembang which will be built by PT. Semen Indonesia. News about the establishment of the cement factory was busy talking in the mass media, especially in cyberspace. The purpose of this study was to describe the structure of the text in the news humming Pilu Kartini Kendeng rejecting the cement factory, describing social cognition, and the social context in the news humming Pilu Kartini Kendeng rejecting the cement factory. The source of the data in this study is the text contained in Kompas online media on April 14, 2016. Data collection techniques were carried out with literature studies, techniques refer to and note. Data was analyzed based on AWK with the Teun A. Van Dijk model. From the results of the study it can be shown that the structure of the text in the Pilgrimage "Kartini Kendeng" Refusing the Cement Factory in Kompas online media portrays the government as a ruler in a positive and negative manner to the farmers as a critic of the establishment of a cement plant in the Kendeng Mountains. The social cognition depicted in the news regarding the refusal of the cement factory can be seen from the types of cultural knowledge and group knowledge. While the analysis of the social context of the government still has power and access and there are pros and cons from the community that support the government's decision to establish a cement plant in the Kendeng Mountains.Keywords: critical discourse analysis. news, online media
