Abstract

This research aims to develop learning strategies on Translation subject using variants onlinetranslator. Increasing development of learning strategies is needed because of the rapiddevelopment of digital era technology. Another purpose of this research is to develop learningstrategies and discuss in detail about variations online translator. Abstract

Several aims are constructed such as the types of onomatopoeia, the technique of translation,the translation quality and the impact of the technique to the translation quality ofonomatopoeia in children comic entitled “Minions: Banana!” and its translation versionentitled “Minions: Banana!”. Descriptive qualitative method is used. Meanwhile, the data usedin this research consist of two data. The first data is the onomatopoeia words which are foundin comic entitled “Minions: Banana!” both in English and Indonesian version. The second datais questionnaire which are distributed to the three raters. The distributed questionnaires areabout translation technique and translation quality assessment. As the result, there are 63 dataaltogether. There are 2 types of onomatopoeia which are lexical onomatopoeia (22 data or35%), non-lexical onomatopoeia (36 data or 57%), and 5 data or 8% are uncategorized.Futhemore the translation techniques used to translate onomatopoeia are 4 techniques whichare adaptation (8 data or 12,7%), borrowing (32 data or 50,8%), discursive creation (7 data or11,1%), and established equivalent (16 data or 25,4%).Keyword:onomatopoeia, comic, translation technique, quality.

Abstract

The research focuses on the translation of proper names in the novel entitled Sherlock Holmes: The Sign of Four. The objectives of this research are to obtain the kinds of proper names, the way they are translated into Indonesian, and the impacts of the translation techniques on the quality of translation in terms of accuracy and acceptability. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with single embedded-case study. To collect the data, the researcher applied purposive sampling technique. The primary data were obtained by using content analysis and the secondary data were obtained through questionnaires. In content analysis, the researcher collected the data by listing and classifying proper names found in the novel and its translation. The researcher found 239 data in the novel.This research finding shows that the kinds of proper names found are 66 personal names (consists of 48 gender specific names, 2 real person names, 11 nicknames and titles, 2 relationship noun, 1 title used without name and 2 pet names), 104 geographical terms (consisting of 97 names of continents, islands, countries, states, cities, towns, mountain and rivers and 7 names of institutions and departments), 46 names for things (consists of 19 names of nationality and tribe, 6 names of community, 7 religious names, 6 names of dates and 8 names of art works and literatures), 23 other names (unidentified names). Those are translated into Indonesian by using 7 techniques of translation: copy, rendition, transcription, calque, deletion, addition, substitution. Besides that, the translator also applies the combination technique of those single techniques into 6 combinations. From the 239 data of proper names, 233 data (97.48%) are accurate, a datum (0.41%) is less accurate, and 5 data (2.09%) are inaccurate. Meanwhile, from the acceptability level, there are 214 data (89.52%) are acceptable translation, three data (1.25%) are less acceptable, and 22 data (9.20%) are unacceptable.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the comparison of translation quality produced at online translation of Google Translate, SDL Free Translation and Tradukka. In consequence with the existence of this research, is expected to give positive contribution to the users of online translation services in particular and translation researchers generally in providing information about the quality of translation produced. Google Translate, SDL Free Translation and Tradukka both have pages that are quite simple but have different levels of translation quality. Thus research is to compare between Google Translate as one of the sites that often opened and produced translation quality more accurate, acceptable and has a high level of readability with two other sites. In addition, there is still much doubt about the quality of a translation machine in producing translations of quality.

Abstract

Google is a large company engaged in technology, besides that Goolge also provides software with advanced technology in the field of translation. In this study, we will discuss the quality of translation from Google Translate as one of the online translation engines that are widely used by users. There are several problems that arise in online translation machines, one of which is the aspect of equivalence of words in the target language. This research is a qualitative descriptive study, where the focus of the problem is aimed at analyzing the quality of the translation produced, while the source data is taken from an online English article. Validation of this research data in the form of level of assessment and acceptance was done by questionnaire method by distributing assessment questionnaires to rater, while for readability quality, the researcher used the interview method on the target readers. From the results of the study there were 21 accurate data, and 9 data were less accurate, while 20 data were received and 10 data were not acceptable, for readability 19 the data entered into high readability and 11 data entered into moderate readability. From the results of the study it can be concluded that technological sophistication is a solution to the problem of translation, but on the other hand it cannot be denied that the quality produced by online translation services is also not entirely accurate, acceptable and has high readability.

Abstract

Novel sebagai salah satu jenis karya sastra sekaligus juga sebagai saksi dari perubahan di dalam masyarakat juga dapat berfungsi sebagai metode untuk memahami modernitas. Dalam hal ini, muncul novel modern psikologis yang mewakili kategori fungsi novel tersebut. Dalam penelitian ini ditelaah salah satu novel yang sering dikategorikan sebagai novel modern psikologis, yaitu “The Sound and the Fury” karya William Faulkner. Metode yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah studi kepustakaan yang mana fokusnya adalah menelaah karya memanfaat literatur-literatur yang relevan. Konsep-konsep tentang modernitas, psikologi, dan teknik arus kesadaran (stream of consciousness) dimanfaatkan untuk dapat menelaah secara mendalam novel ini. Khusus untuk teknik arus kesadaran, teknik ini terbukti cukup dominan di dalam jenis novel ini.

Abstract

Learning in the Covid-19 pandemic has changed offline learning become online learning. Online learning has several problems for teachers, students, and parents. The covid-19 pandemic in 2020 has had a significant impact in all fields, especially in the education field. Learning English daily conversation through Karysma FM Radio aims to teach students daily conversation and motivate students to deepen their understanding of English subjects outside of school time. The methodology applied in the implementation of community service is observation and the implementing teaching process. The conclusions of learning English daily conversation through Karysma FM Radio are 1) Teaching English daily conversation with students at Karysma FM Radio requires creativity and English language skills; 2) Knowing the psychology of students, it is necessary to invite students to be willing to speak in English daily conversation considering that English subjects are lessons outside of school; 3) The obstacles in teaching English daily conversation with students at Radio Karysma FM are preparation of time and teaching materials

Abstract

This study aims to train English language skills for Akparta students to be proficient in English. The research methods used include presentations, lectures, observations and discussions. The results showed that the level of English mastery of the Surakarta Akparta students had progressed in speaking English. Community service activities carried out at Akparta Surakarta are helpful for students to improve their English language competence so that students can become professional tourism workers

Abstract

The goal of the community service entitled Introduction to English through songs at TPQ Al Kautsar 1 is to introduce English vocabulary through songs to improve students' comprehension of English. English song content taught at TPQ Al Kautsar 1 has never been obtained. The first stage was to conduct a series of English language introduction activities for pupils using songs to train pupils at TPQ Al Kautsar. Community service increased pupils' English comprehension. TPQ Al Kautsar pupils, based on observations made by the community service team, there are indications of increased English comprehension among pupils at TPQ Al Kautsar 1.
