Abstract

This study aims to find out the find out the ability of the students’ descriptive writing, and the second aim is to find out the students’ problem in writing a descriptive paragraph by the students of semester 2 year intake 2014 Dual-Degree Program STIKOM Bali in English subject. This study used the theory of English Grammar and theory of writing particularly on the descriptive writing. There was 31 students’ descriptive writing analyzed by using the collecting data method of qualitative. From the data analysis, there were found three students inappropriate descriptive writings. Therefore, it can be concluded that the students’ ability in terms of appropriateness descriptive writing is good. However, in terms of the problems in writing, they have problems in developing the idea of the identification into description, and the other problems were on the management of their writing which was not proper, therefore, their writing were not coherent.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan di sebuah sekolah di kabupaten Badung, yaitu di SMA Negeri 1 Mengwi. Pada sekolah ini terdapat beberapa ekstrakurikuler. Tujuan dari kegiatan ekstrakurikuler sebagai wadah siswa dan siswi untuk mengmebangkan minat dan bakat mereka terkait dengan seni, bahasa, maupun olahraga. Kegiatan tersebuat biasanya dilakukan di luar jadwal kegiatan pembelajaran. English Learning Club adalah salah satu ekstrakurikuler yang terdapat di sekolah ini atau sering disingkat dengan ELC. Ekstrakurikuler tersebut fokus pada pengembangan minat para siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Namun, terdapat kendala dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan ekstra ini, yaitu kurangnya minat siswa dan siswi yang tergabung dalam ekstra ini untuk mengikuti divisi News Reading. Jumlah peserta yang terdaftar dalam divisi ini hanya sebanyak 9 orang. Hal ini terkait dengan metode yang digunakan untuk melatih news reading tidak menarik. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini difokuskan pada pelatihan news reading kepada anggota ekstrakurikuler untuk menarik minat para siswa untuk mengikuti divisi tersebut. Metode meaningful practices dipilih untuk manarik minat para siswa untuk bergabung dalam divisi news reading. Dengan metode tersebut, minat para siswa semakin meningkat menjadi 15 sampai 24 peserta.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to find the students’ competency in listening test and also to find out their problemsthrough the listening test result. The students under concern were the second-semester students ofacademic year 2017 taking the English II subject at STIKOM Bali. The data source in this studyis a primary data, which has been got directly from one class of listening comprehension insemester II. This class was chosen since the students of this class have already learned listeningcomprehension for seven meetings. The listening test was consisting of two different types theywere listening comprehension and completing the conversation. The finding shows that the overallperformance of the students in completing the listening conversation was better than theirperformance in listening comprehension. This was caused by the lack of the students’concentration in listening therefore, they could not get the point of that listening, besides that, andthere were also some vocabularies that were uncommon for them.Key words: Listening, Listening Comprehension, Students’ Competency.ABSTRAKTujuan dari peneltian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kompetensi mahasiswa dalam tes listeningsertauntuk mengetahui permasalahan mereka berdasarkan hasil dari tes listening tersebut. Hasiltes listening mahasiswa yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini dari mahasiswa semester duaangkatan 2017 yang mengambil mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris II di STIKOM Bali. Sumber datapenelitian ini adalah data primer, yang diambil langsung dari satu kelas listening comprehensiondi semester II. Kelas Ini dipilih karena mahasiswa di kelas ini sudah memelajari listeningcomprehension selama tujuh pertemuan. Tes listening terdiri dari dua tipe yang berbeda yaitulistening comprehension dan completing the conversation. Temuan pada penelitian inimenunjukkan bahwa secara keseluruhan, hasil tes mahasiswa dalam completing the conversationlebih baik daripada hasil tes listening comprehension. Hal ini disebabkan oleh kurangnyakonsentrasi mahasiswa dalam menyimak sehingga, mereka tidak dapat mengambil inti darilistening tersebut, serta terdapat beberapa kosakata yang jarang mereka dengar sebelumnya.Kata kunci: Listening, Listening Comprehension, Kompetensi Mahasiswa.

Abstract

The landscape of higher education in Indonesia underscores the significance of English proficiency for academic advancement. Traditionally, English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction heavily relied on face-to-face classroom interactions guided by lecturers. However, the emergence of information technology has revolutionized learning paradigms, offering EFL students diverse opportunities beyond conventional classroom boundaries. This study investigates the pivotal role of social media platforms in enhancing the writing skills of EFL students. Utilizing a descriptive research design, data were collected from 54 participants enrolled in English III classes in 2021, focusing on English writing. Quantitative data and specific examples were gathered through questionnaires and interviews. The findings revealed a resoundingly positive response from students regarding the efficacy of social media in improving their writing skills. Furthermore, the study elucidated various benefits derived from social media use, including enhanced writing proficiency, expanded English vocabulary, and overall effectiveness as a supplementary learning tool. Thus, it is evident that social media harbors immense potential as a complementary platform for bolstering English writing skills, particularly for EFL students, offering a modern approach to language education.

Abstract

English speaking is an essential skill that must be learned by higher education students, in this case is the EFL students. Speaking skill is very useful and needed for their future to increase their chance in getting the future job worldwide. English is the core subject in higher education; therefore, the students must enrol to complete their studies. However, this skill is difficult to master since they do not speak English in their everyday life.  This present study aims to determine the students' ability to speak on their YouTube video project. There were four components of speaking used in this study. They were Pronunciation, Fluency, Grammar, and Vocabulary. The students’ YouTube video projects were used as the data to see their ability in speaking. It was found that the highest average score is on the component of Grammar among the four components of speaking. Then, it is followed by Vocabulary, Pronunciation, and the lowest is on the Fluency component. The average score of their speaking is 72.7, hence, it can be concluded that the students’ speaking ability on their YouTube video project is in a good category. The use of YouTube in speaking is effective to improve the students’ speaking ability. Overall, this study contributes on the research of the same field on the English language teaching for EFL students in exploring the effectiveness of the technological enhancement to help the students improving their speaking skills.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan mutu pembelajaran di SMA Negeri 1 Marga, Tabanan, Bali, melalui solusi digital terpadu untuk mengatasi tantangan penurunan jumlah murid baru dan kurang optimalnya pemanfaatan teknologi. Lingkup kegiatan meliputi implementasi sistem E-Learning Moodle, Sistem Informasi Manajemen Sekolah (SIMS), pembuatan video promosi, serta pelatihan literasi digital bagi guru dan siswa. Metode pelaksanaan mencakup analisis kebutuhan, pengembangan sistem, pelatihan intensif, dan evaluasi melalui observasi serta umpan balik mitra. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan : video promosi memperkuat citra sekolah, E-Learning meningkatkan fleksibilitas pembelajaran, SIMS mengoptimalkan administrasi akademik, dan pelatihan literasi digital meningkatkan kompetensi guru-siswa sebesar 40-60%. Simpulan mengonfirmasi bahwa transformasi digital memperkokoh dimensi akademik dan strategi promosi sekolah. Keberartian kegiatan ini terletak pada model keberlanjutan melalui penguatan infrastruktur, pendampingan berkala, dan integrasi sistem untuk inovasi pendidikan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

The beauty of Balinese artisans' handicrafts has long been known and sought after by local and foreign tourists. One of the handicraft products that has high cultural and economic value is keben, which is made of bamboo. However, keben craftsmen in Kayubihi Village, Bangli Regency, face various challenges such as limited access to technology, lack of marketing understanding, and low managerial skills. This community service activity aims to provide training and mentoring to keben craftsmen so that they can develop technical skills, understand effective marketing strategies, and improve business management. In addition, this activity also aims to raise awareness of the importance of preserving traditional crafts as part of cultural identity. Thus, it is hoped that craftsmen can increase their income and be ready to face the global era and international marketing. The results of the implementation of this community service activity are the achievement of 100% output for the e-commerce system, the Kayubihi Village web profile system, and the craftsmen's smart financial system. English language training has been carried out. So it can be concluded that the implementation of this community service activity has been achieved in accordance with the proposed target.
