Abstract

Vegetarians are people consuming food derived from plants or processed products, such as milk and eggs. Cereals, pulses and results nuts, tofu, tempeh and green vegetables are good source of calcium as well, but these foods contain many substances that inhibit the absorption of calcium such as fiber, phytate and oxalate, so feared vegetarians are deficient in calcium. This study is to determine the levels of calcium serum in the vegetarian by using the Colorimetric Assay. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Clinical Chemistry Faculty of Health Sciences, Maarif Hasyim Latif University, held on March 4, 2016 until April 18, 2016. The results of a study of 25 serum samples of the vegetarian, 4 samples (16%) showed the level of calcium in the normal range and 21 samples (84%) below the normal value. This research it can be concluded that the majority of the vegetarian’s serum calcium levels below the normal value.

Abstract

The body's immune system is a system that detects a wide variety of outside biological influences, organisms will protect the body from infections, bacteria, viruses to parasites. During the current pandemic, the immune system is very important to prevent exposure to COVID-19. Efforts are made to be able to sufficient intake of vitamins and vaccinations. Vitamin D is one that is needed to prevent exposure to viruses. This study aims to determine vitamin D levels in sinovac vaccine recipients as an illustration of the immune system. This scientific paper research uses primary data analytic observation method with a cross-sectional design supported by literature studies, namely by describing the results of the research in the form of a percentage (%) decrease and increase in vitamin D compared to normal values. The results of the research on vitamin D levels receiving the Sinovac vaccine found that 92% or 23 patients out of 25 patients showed vitamin D levels were still within normal values and 8% or 2 patients showed vitamin D levels below normal values. It can be concluded that some of the research samples were in the normal range so that the immune system as the response of vitamin D to vaccines is still being seen. Keywords : SINOVAC Vaccine, Vitamin D, Immune System.

Abstract

Since specimen collection, preanalytical factors such as time and temperature could affect the peripheral blood smear morphology of erythrocytes, leukocytes, and thrombocytes. Delays are often caused by the limited number of medical personnel so work is not properly organized. This research is an observational qualitative descriptive study to determine the morphology of blood smears immediately checked and delay 24 hours at 2-8 ?. This study aims to determine the evaluation of K3EDTA venous peripheral blood smears immediately checked and delayed 24 hours at 2-8?. From 25 K3EDTA blood samples of Maarif Hasyim Latif Sidoarjo University students, it was found that there were no changes in the morphology of erythrocytes and platelets. Meanwhile, in leukocyte cells, changes occur in the neutrophil segment and stab granules, which is the granules fade, and the leukocyte nuclei can still be identified properly, so that do not affect the examination results. In conclusion, the Evaluation of the K3EDTA Peripheral Blood Smear was immediately checked and delay 24 Hours at the temperature of 2-8 ? has no change, which is still within normal limits. Keywords : Blood Smear, Delayed, K3EDTA, Immediately checked

Abstract

Peel of purple and yellow passion fruit has the potential to be an antioxidant. The flavonoid and total phenol compound groups are two examples of natural antioxidant compounds that can potentially be antioxidants. Many studies have used 70% methanol solvent to extract flavonoids and total phenolics from plants. The aim of this study is to analyze the potential of 70% methanol extract from the peel of purple and yellow passion fruit as an in vitro antioxidant using the DPPH method, total flavonoid, and phenolic levels. The passion fruit peel powder was macerated with 70% methanol for four days. The total flavonoid contents were determined using quercetin, and total phenols were determined using gallic acid. The 2.2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) was used for in vitro antioxidant activity by determining the percent inhibition of DPPH radicals. The flavonoid content in the 70% methanol extract of purple and yellow passion fruit peel is 1.2824 and 1.9775 mg QE/g extract, respectively. In contrast, the total phenolic content in 70% methanol extract of purple and yellow passion fruit peel is 15.8 and 3.6 mg GAE/g extract, respectively. The 70% methanol extract of purple passion fruit peel at a concentration of 80 mg/L resulted in a more significant percent inhibition of DPPH free radicals (72.80 %) than yellow passion fruit (64.91 %). In conclusion, the results suggest that 70 % methanol extract from purple and yellow passion fruit peel can decrease free radicals and be a natural antioxidant.Keyword: Antioxidant activity, Flavonoid, Methanol extract, Passion fruit peel, Total phenol

Abstract

Blood transfusion is the transfer of blood from one person (donor) into the vein of another person (recipient). Blood components include cellular and non-cellular components. The results of the study were conducted to determine the differences in the results of 36-hour and 48-hour FFP (Fresh Frozen Plasma) samples stored at room temperature against APTT (Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time) examination. The sample was FPP (Fress Frozen Plasma) from Dr. Sotomo Hospital Surabaya, which obtained significant results, namely there was a difference in the plasma APTT value with a delay of 36 hours, plasma with a delay of 48 hours with plasma with a delay of 30 minutes or without delay, while the plasma APTT value with a 30-minute delay as a control for the normal APTT value. The Mann-Whitney statistical test showed that there was a significant difference (p<0.05) between 30-minute plasma with 36-hour delay plasma p=0.00 and 48-hour delay plasma with p=0.000. The conclusion in the hematological examination, especially the APTT examination, if there is a delay in the examination, it should be examined no more than two hours. Keywords: Fress Frozen Plasma, Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time
