Abstract

This study aimed to determine the acid levels produced in fermented liquid tofu waste using Bacillus subtilis quantitatively.This study began by growing Bacillus subtilis on LB (lactose Broth) media as a positive control and for negative control on LBmedium with variations of 1: 1 and 1: 3 for LB and tofu waste media and liquid tofu waste media only. In the beginning, liquidtofu had already had an acidic level due to the use of acetic acid as a clot. For this reason, it was carried out to check theacid level with the titration process first. Measurement of acid levels for fermentation results is carried out using titration. Inthis experiment, the bacteria growth, specific growth rate and reduction rate of reducing sugars from each of the four mediawere used. Measurement of growth and reducing sugar using a spectrophotometer. From the results of data processing, itwas found that acid concentration increased from the beginning before fermentation and after fermentation. In tofu wastemedia, acid concentration increased from 1.3M to 1.7M; tofu waste compared to LB 1: 3 from 1M to 1.3M; the tofu wastecompared to LB 1:1 from 0.85M to 1.1M and LB media from 0.5M to 0.6M. From these results, it can be seen that the highestincrease in acid concentration is found in tofu waste media.

Abstract

The training and mentoring of microorganism isolation and identification practicums wereconducted as an effort to provide learning integration experiences with practicum activitiesdue to the limited laboratory facilities in high schools in Toba Regency. The community serviceactivities began with an evaluation of initial understanding related to the community serviceactivities carried out, followed by the provision of basic theory on microorganism isolation andidentification. After that continued with practical activities of isolation and identification ofmicroorganisms carried out through aseptic techniques and mentoring in observations, datarecording, and analysis of practical observation results. The activity was concluded with a finalevaluation of the activity. Training and mentoring were carried out intensively so the studentsand teachers were able to carry out the stages and analysis of practical activities appropriately.The evaluation results showed that this activity increased the understanding of students andteachers of the basic theory and practical work of isolating and identifying microorganisms for66%. This training activity is also expected to be a strategic step to encourage high schools inToba Regency to have laboratory facilities to support the integration of learning materials withpractical activities.

Abstract

Biobriquettes serve as a renewable energy alternative with the potential to replace conventional charcoal while producing lower emissions. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of varying the ratio of raw material mixtures and the concentration of binder made from cassava starch on the quality of biobriquettes produced from candlenut shells (Aleurites moluccana) and empty palm oil fruit bunches (Elaeis guineensis jack). The selection of these raw materials was based on their abundant availability in Indonesia and their high lignocellulosic content. The biobriquettes were produced through a carbonization process, in which the candlenut shells were heated at 350°C for 30 minutes, while the palm oil empty fruit bunches were carbonized at 300°C for the same duration. The study applied variations in the composition ratios of candlenut shells to empty fruit bunches (100:0, 80:20, 60:40, 40:60, 20:80, and 0:100), as well as binder concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 30% (w/w) using cassava starch. The resulting biobriquettes were tested according to the Indonesian National Standard SNI 01-6235-2000 through proximate and physical analyses. The findings indicated that the variation.
