Abstract

Cerebro vascular diseases (CVD) also known as stroke is the event losing of brain function that is caused by the termination of blood supply to the brain. The deprivation of oxygen supply will result in depleting nutrition to the brain. The primary symptom will be the muscle weakness. The muscle weakness on hand can be treated with a grasp exercise for the post-stroke patient. This researched aims to understand the difference of muscle strength scale before and after grasp exercising for the post ischemic stroke patient. The research design applies quasi-experiment with pretest and posttest on two groups design. In this research, there are 67 respondents will be used as samples by applying purposive sampling technique. The research instrument is observation paper of the muscles strength scale. The bivariate analysis uses paired t-test with significance level α(0.05). The  result of this research indicates a significant difference in the muscle strength scale before and after the exercise on ischemic stroke patient with the score p<0,0001. In conclusion, this research finds that the grasp exercise can effectively increase the muscle strength of the stroke patient and recommends the grasp exercise as a part of nurse independent intervention in providing nursing treatment. Keywords: Stroke, muscle strength, grasp exercise.

Abstract

Increased uric acid levels in the blood (hyperuricemia)is cause by buildup of uric acid levels and its knowas a gout illness. Decreasing of kidney function such as disability, inflammation, swelling, redness and painthat disrupts daily activities are some of the effects caused by gout. Gout pain can be handledbypharmacological and non-pharmacological therapy. The example of Non-pharmacological therapy likewarm water compress therapy and red onion compress (zingiber officinale var rubrum). To determine thedifferences of warm water compresses and red onion compress (zingiber officinale var rubrum) of goutpain level in the elderly at the Palembang Nursing Home. This study used a quantitative study, with aquasi-experimental design method by pretest posttest design, sampling used a total sampling of 42respondents. Bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. The characteristic of allrespondents are aged 60-74 years (100%), the majority of female sex (66.7%), uric acid levels> 7.1 mg / dL(61.9%), the level of pain pretest (7- 9) (59.5%), posttest (1-3) (66.7%), type of gout therapy: warm watercompress (50%), red onion compress (50%). Wilcoxon test results show that warm water compresses with pvalue: 0.00 and red onion compresses with p value: 0.00, its mean that there are differences before andafter the intervention given to the extent of gout pain. Mann-Whitney test with p value 0.518 indicates thatthere is no difference in warm water compresses and red onion compress with mean rank of red onioncompress is 20.50 and mean rank of warm water compresses is 22.50.Warm water compress and red onioncompress together can reduce pain but red onion compress are more effective. This research is expected tobe a reference for using red onion compress (zingiber officinale var rubrum) as a one non-pharmacologicaltherapy to treat gout pain in the elderly.

Abstract

Blood pressure is the pulse of the circulatory system that moves blood throughout the body. One physical and mental health is healthy cardio exercise which is beneficial for the health of the heart, brain, lungs, body and mind. The main goal of healthy cardio training is to strengthen the heart muscle, improve heart function, and increase oxygen flow throughout the body. Univariate analysis in the form of distribution of frequencies and proportions as well as bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon test. The results of the study show that adult respondents 22 persons (50%), male 2 persons (5.5%), blood pressure before exercise (130-139 and/or 85-89 mmHg) up to 33 respondents (75%), blood pressure after exercise (<130-139 and/or 85-89 mmHg) 27 respondents (61,%). The results of the Wilcoxon test showed that cardio exercise had an effect on reducing blood pressure with p-values ??of 0.001 (<0.05). Based on the results, it is suggested that respondents do regular heart-healthy exercises to reduce high blood pressure.
