Abstract

The objectives of study to determine the income is obtained by Kaligesing goat farmer and todetermine the effect of some factors on the income. Survey method was conducted in this study, 47(forty seven) farmers in Giripurno village, Borobudur subdistrict, Magelang regency through interviewand observation. Secondary and primary data were obtained to answer the objective. Respondentcharacteristic, total revenue, total cost production, and total income were observed for 6 monthsobservation. Descriptive analysis and one sample t-test was used to analyze the data. Path analysis withTETRAD IV was used to determine the model. Dairy goat farmer in the study area rear goat were 10heads on average. Total revenue obtained was IDR 4,975,500, Total cost spent was IDR 1,865,200, andTotal income was IDR 3,110,300. Milk price and quality of the milk have influenced the number of milksold. The number of milk sold has influenced the income significantly. Milk price has influenceddirectly to the income while quality of milk has not directly influenced the income of farmer. Hence,improvement of quality of goat milk through diet manipulation is needed.

Abstract

The study was aimed to predict body composition of local goats fed bagasse based total mixedration (TMR). Fifteen male local goats (18 months old with average body weight of 18 kg ) were used inthis study. Goats were divided randomly into 3 groups, and were fed TMR’s those contained 15, 25, and35% of sugarcane bagasse, respectively. All experimental diets were designed to be isoenergy andisoprotein. After 12 weeks of adaptation to experimental diets and environment, each group wassubjected to feed digestibility trial, body composition, and experiment of feeding effect on serumglucose. The data were analyzed using one way analyses of variance. The results showed that the bodycomposition and serum glucose concentration were not significantly different (P>0.05) amongtreatments. The bagasse portion in the TMR upto 25% lowered daily feed consumption and body weightgain (P<0.05). It was concluded that the use of sugarcane bagasse up to 35% in the TMR did not affectbody composition of goats.

Abstract

Fifteen Jawarandu male goats were used to study the effect of different portion of sugarcanebagasse in diets on some parameters of protein metabolism. Goats had average of body weight of 18 kgand aged at 18 months. Animals were housed in metabolic cages and were alloted to a completelyrandomized design receiving three experimental diets with sugarcane bagasse portions of 15, 25, and35% (dry matter basis), respectively. After eight weeks of adjustment period to experimental diets andenvironment, each group of treatment was subjected to ten days of digestion trial, and followed bycollection of rumen liquid samples. Parameters observed were feed digestibility, nitrogen retention,ruminal feed fermentation, and excretion of urinary allantoin to estimate microbial protein synthesis.Data were tested using one way analysis of variance, and followed by Duncan’s mulitiple range test. Drymatter and protein intakes lowered (P<0.05) as the increasing of sugarcane bagasse in diets. Proteindigestibility and retention were unaffected by the treatment of bagasse portion. The dietary treatment didnot change ruminal ammonia, total VFA, acetate, propionate, and butyrate concentrations. Microbialnitrogen synthesis and efficiency of microbial nitrogen synthesis were unaffected by the dietarytreatment.

Abstract

The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the performance of fat-tailed rams fed complete feedbased oil palm fronds (OPF). This experiment was arranged in Completely Randomized Design (CRD)with 5 treatments and 4 replications i.e. 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of OPF substituting fields grass incomplete feed for A, B, C, D and E treatments, respectively. Twenty fat-tailed rams were fed twice at08.00 and 14.00 with pellet of complete feed for 4 months. The result of this experiment showed thatOPF significantly influenced nutrient consumption, average daily gain (ADG) and feed efficiency ratio(FER). Oil palm fronds significantly affected (P<0.05) fat-tailed rams’s dry matter intake (DMI), organicmatter intake (OMI), crude protein intake (CPI), ADG and FER. The highest DMI, OMI, CPI, ADG, andFER of fat-tailed rams was in C treatment and significantly different from the others. It was concludedthat C treatment was the best treatment which can give the best fat-tailed rams performance. The OPFcan be used to replace the field grass as feed up to 75% proportion in complete feed and could increasethe performance and productivity of fat-tailed rams.
