Abstract

This research use Mas Marco's novel Student Hidjo as material object. The Postcolonial theory will be used to analys Student Hidjo novel’s by Mas Marco. Postcolonial is a set of theories to explore the effects of colonialism in various documents and behaviors, including literature. This study uses qualitative methods to obtain the necessary data from the novel. This type of analysis uses descriptive analysis. The analysis will use deconstruction method. This is in accordance with postcolonialism which is a reversal of the colonial discourse. Such a method is useful for reversing the colonial discourse which presents the relationship between colonizers >< colonized in the novel.. The relationship that seemed stable was undermined by the subjectivity of the colonized through their resistance. The various resistances presented by the colonized were understood by the postcolonialists as a form of an ambivalent legacy of colonialism. The ambivalent side occurs because the resulting resistance strikes both sides. On the one side attacking the invaders, but on the other side attacking resisting subject. Keywords: postcolonial, deconstruction, colonizers, colonized, ambivalent

Abstract

Imaging of a discourse in the paradigm of postcolonialism is closely related to the issue of domination and subordination in terms of reference to imperialism or capitalization. The imagery is a project that develops special perceptions about "foreign" (East) regions. This project presupposes that the "foreign" (East) region is exotic "uncivilized" regions, standardized in a special "understanding", whose main purpose is to separate or dissolve it ("tame" the "foreign" region), so that different from or being "civilized". One area that is strongly embedded in this project is literature, with the novel as an aesthetic object. In connection with this issue, this article reveals how the East is presented in its exotic image, so how the image represents an ambivalent relationship between the East (colonized) and the West (invaders), especially in the Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk (RDP) novel by Ahamad Tohari. The results of the study show that the RDP novel is an urgent medium related to the conditions of postcoloniality. The postcoloniality is meant not only that the narrative that is displayed is the essence of what is obtained from the author about the exotic world region (the nature of Paruk dukuh) with all the signs attached to it, narration is also used as an affirmation of identity and historical existence, in the context of civilized culture. The culture in question is the source of identity that is championed as a filter and lifter, for the community that has been known and thought about, as an invitation for emancipation. Power and ability to tell stories, in this case, are used as weapons of the author in hopes of inspiring readers. The expected result is the hegemonic reader of the discourse displayed in the work of the author. In the post-colonial context, this method is inseparable from a combination where political and ideological power is interrelated, where the image represented is always still signifying the "emancipation" power relationship between the West and the East. However, like ideology, imaging must be realized other than as originating from and relating to material conditions and material effects, it is also a misrepresentation of reality and in its rearrangement process. Therefore, the potential, possibilities, and certain visions that follow, are full of content, values, or strategies for "mastering" (power). Especially in the Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk novel by Ahamad Tohari, exotic images give rise to ambivalent meanings for emancipation efforts (West to East).

Abstract

The topic of feminism in Japan is something that society has not yet fully accepted. This is the reason why researchers chose the novel Susu and Eggs to be used as the object of study. The discrimination that occurs against female characters in the novel leads to extreme actions and thoughts regarding women's freedom regarding their rights. Therefore, the novel Susu and Eggs is studied using radical feminism theory. The aim of this research is to describe the structural analysis and aspects of radical feminism in the object of study. Data discovery was carried out using the library study method, namely reading the novel in its entirety. The description of the data is carried out through qualitative descriptive methods. The research results show that there is a relationship between the title, theme and characterization in the novel. The title relates to the major theme which is supported by the minor theme. The theme is depicted through events that support the characters' characters. On the other hand, the aspects of radical feminism found are divided into five parts, namely: (1) women and their bodies which are related to Midoriko and Natsuko. Midoriko as a teenager who hates the nature of women, then Natsuko as a single woman who cannot find pleasure in sex, but wants to have children through a sperm donor; (2) the inequality of roles in the household which is depicted through the character Yusa Rika who hates her ex-husband; (3) women's beauty standards which include women's body shape and nipple color; (4) stereotypes about women's bodies that discuss women's instincts to get pregnant and societal stigma that prioritizes the penis over the vagina; (5) and sexual violence which includes the act of rape against the character Zen Yuriko.
