Abstract

This study is an annotated translation. The object of the study is a book which is entitled techniques and principles in language teaching by Diana Larsen – freeman. The problems of this study are: (1) “what are the difficulties encountered by the researcher when translating techniques and principles in language teaching into Indonesian, and (2) ‘how are those difficulties solved in the translation?”. The purposes of this study are: (1) to attain factual information concerning the problems faced the researcher in translating the source text; and (2) to give plausible solutions to the difficulties. In conducting this annotated translation, the researcher answers the questions that emerge in the introspective and retrospective study. The result of the study covered two main points. First, finding revealed that from the twenty five most difficult problems, eight were in the form of grammatical structures, and seventeen.

Abstract

The researcher described about there was one problem of this study namely: (1) how is the students ability in translating english active and passive sentences into indonesian. While the purpose of this study namely: to know the student s ability in translating english active and passive sentences into indonesian. The method used in the study was a descriptive method. While the subject of this study was the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 2 Woha, the researcher used english test as an instrument in collecting the data, the type of test was essay. The researcher anlyzed the data was descriptive statistics namelyideal mean score and ideal standard deviation for measured students ability in translating english active and passive into indonesian. Based on the result of data used test was essay test, the test consisted of 15 items. The highest score was 13 and lowest was 8. The mean score was obtained in this examination was 10,96 and standar deviation was categories into average level. The result of discussion that students ability in translating english active and passive sentences into indonesian was still in average level in translating english active and passive sentences. In can be conclue that can be more active in the translating class in which concern to get the high target in learning english translating achievement and the subject the other especially for translating active and passive sentence.

Abstract

The purpose of this research are: (1) To describe the students communicative competence. (2) To describe the factors that affects their communicative competence. This study investigates how well the students do in using English to communicate with others with the help of recording and interview questions which may help the writer to find out the students weakness in sociolinguistic competence and to find out the factors that influence it in English Education program’s students. This research is descriptive research, in descriptive research the writer analyzed and presented the fact systematically therefore it could be understood and concluded easily. Type of this research is qualitative research. This research used the primary source was taken from the students’ utterances recording in English Education Program’s of STKIP Taman Siswa Bima. The secondary data is taken from many communicative competence’ journals that related with this research and also the data is taken from internet website. The result of this research showed that there were some students’ weakness in sociolinguistic competence and some factors that influences it. The students’ weakness in sociolinguistic competence found are 7, as follows: Age was appear in Data 2, Gender was appear in Data 5 and 6, Social Status was appear in Data 1 and Impoliteness in communication was appear in Data 3, 4 and 7. Besides, some causes for the students’ weakness in sociolinguistic competence found are 6, as follows: Students prefer to use their Mother Tongue, they cannot make good use of the opportunities for practice their sociolinguistic competence, the students are afraid of loser face when making mistakes. The students’ sociolinguistic competences are also influenced by their social and culture. The last is influenced by films or movies.
