Abstract

The practice of jockey services normalized by the social world has harmed the essence of education, because it includes academic underground deviations. However, it is not subjective, because the structure also contributes to it. Thus, this study aims to uncover the occurrence of jockey service practices by focusing on identifying the agents and structures behind the rampant providers and users of jockey services for final year students at one of the state universities in Surabaya City with Pierre Bourdieu's social practice theory. The method used is qualitative with Pierre Bourdieu's generative structuralism approach. The results showed the involvement of structures, especially in campus regulations, while students have different distributions of habitus, capital, and arena.

Abstract

Culture is a human product, which then binds human actions into a single unit. As is the case, the people in Baran Village are still bound by a culture in their social reality. People in Baran Village interpret that the 7-form vegetable dish can be a disaster repellent. Thus, this research aims to dismantle the social construction that has been adopted by the people of Baran Village, in an effort to prevent the co-19 pandemic. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with Alfred Schutz's phenomenological approach. Meanwhile, this research uses the theory of Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckman in unmasking social construction. The results of this study show that the community constructs vegetable lodeh 7 rupa through its social reality, such as cooking and eating vegetable lodeh 7 rupa as a daily dish. More than that, the meaning implied by the advice of elders in each of the 7 raw materials is interpreted through actions such as worship, staying at home, and maintaining health as an effort to harmonize themselves from the disturbed natural balance

Abstract

Integrative thematic education has contributed to the reproduction of symbolic violence through the habitus of the dominant class. This happens because not all agents have the appropriate capital and habitus. This research aims to identify the capital of parents as a representation of learners and teachers as teaching agents. The method used is qualitative with Pierre Bourdieu's generative structuralism approach. Data collection techniques include observation, interview, and documentation. Bourdieu's theory of reproduction and symbolic violence was used as an analytical tool. The results show that popular class students are less able to adjust the habitus recognized in integrative thematic education, so their practices are considered less appropriate. This is because their parents do not have enough capital accumulation to pass on the right habitus in education. In contrast, petty bourgeois class students who have sufficient capital and habitus are considered more appropriate so they rarely experience symbolic violence. Symbolic violence is also experienced by other popular class agents, such as senior teachers who have less cultural capital than junior teachers. Despite these challenges, integrative thematic education is still practiced because it has become a doxa-an established belief-without considering the cultural diversity of learners in rural areas.
