Abstract

The development of technology does not go hand in hand with children's ability to respond to information waves. Generation Z children are technically skilled at using media. However, the ability to understand media content, media ethics, and critical understanding is still at a fairly low level. The media literacy movement in Indonesia is understood as digital education, weak in critical thinking, and its various activities are only in the form of top-down socialization. This study aims to find the suitable literacy model for digital natives in Magelang, which is currently predicated as a Kota Layak Anak (KLA) in the Nindya category. In achieving the research objectives, researchers used a qualitative approach with participatory methods that had never been used in previous research with similar themes. This study places children as social actors and leaders in research (child-led research) to produce a media literacy model design with a child's perspective. Children's aspiration data shows that the media literacy model that has been accepted is in the form of one-way socialization so that it does not have much effect on their lives. Children expect a discussion space to convey their opinions on current issues and government policies related to children. In accordance with the aspirations of these children, media literacy based on the journalist community (children-led community) can be used as one of the media literacy models that can be applied in KLA. This model can lead to the fulfillment of the fourth KLA cluster indicators, namely the available creative space that can be used by children. At the same time, this literacy model helps to realize cluster two and also fulfill children's civil rights as an indicator in cluster one.

Abstract

Most of the people who access the internet are millennial generation, that is, the generation born between 1982 and 2000.  Digitalization forces the mass media in Indonesia to participate in meeting the demands of society's need for up to date information. This study aims to examine the practices of the millennial generation in consuming online news.  In particular, this study aims to reveal the diversity of meanings that arise from the experiences of audiences when consuming online news. This study applies a qualitative approach to the reception method. The comment column provides a reference space for itself to continue consuming the next news activity on the mass media or not. Comments can even be termed as a filter for news that millennial generation will consume. Storytelling as millennial generation's online news consuming experience. From the point of view of millennials storytelling helps facilitate their imagination through visual means.

Abstract

This research is a cultural studies, which disscuss representation of Papuan ethnic identity in the adolescent drama series Diam-Diam Suka. The concept of postcolonial theory and John Fiske semiotic analysis “Television Codes” were used to show representation of Papuan ethnic identity that displayed by teks.The finding of this study showed that the mass media through text perpetuates the identity of Papua as a foolish, weird, and primitive one. This is done by text in several ways. First, the text emphasizes the distinction of Papuans against the majority trough appearance, cultural attributes, and the way of speech. Second, the text shows the unequal power relations between the majority-minority through setting and characterization. Third, the text attaches humor to Papuan characters through dialogue in drama series. Papuan identity is constructed under Western hegemony as well as placing Western consciousness as its center.

Abstract

Kota Layak Anak (KLA) is a government program that is being developed, one of which is in the Magelang city which received appreciation as the KLA category Nindya. However, this program has not included the criteria for media literacy as one indicator of its success. Meanwhile children dependent on the media. Research conducted by this survey method seeks to map patterns of child media behavior as a baseline data for the development of KLA policy and the basis for the media literacy movement. The results show that children in the Magelang city prefer to choose a combination of television and internet media to meet their needs. Parents provide access to media, but do not provide guidance to children when consuming media. At the same time, the government and schools are doing policy centered in media literacy that are not effective in their implementation. On the other hand, local wisdom in the form of the religious values of the Magelang community can reduce the negative impact of the media on children.

Abstract

The presence of an online mall website brings great consequences in public shopping habits. Lazada is one of the new means of consumption through a new media that offers a various easiness, which are visible as modern, practical, and efficient as management at a McDonald's fast food restaurant. McDonaldization theory from George Ritzer is used as a way to crack open the ideology and dimensions of McDonaldization and also its consequences. The results show that efficiency is not always free of charge. The principle of rationality just covers the risk of inefficiency in small amount, thus allowing more serious consequences such as dehumanization that leads to the minimization of humanitarian authenticity and homogenization that leads to technological dependence and loss of critical power.  Keywords: online mall, McDonaldization, George Ritzer, online shopping, e-commerce

Abstract

Abstract: Schizophrenia is one type of mental disorder with the most sufferers after bipolar disorder and depression. It is estimated that 75% of schizophrenics in the age range of 16-25 years are included as age products so that schizophrenics cannot maximize their work and creativity in social life. One effort to improve mental health can be done through therapeutic communication. Helping the relationship as part of therapeutic communication is important to increase patient awareness so that problems that may arise in schizophrenia cases can be handled optimally. This study discusses how to help the relationship between nurses and patients in healing schizophrenia so that it can support the healing of patients. The research method used is a qualitative research method with descriptive analysis techniques. The results showed that nurses are "helpers" who have communication competencies at the level of conscious competence and unconscious competence. Mindfulness is key in helping relationships that lead to patient recovery.Key words: therapeutic communication, helping relationship, schizophrenia

Abstract

So far, generation Z stick to the stereotypes of antisocials, instant, lazy, and difficult to communicate with older generation. Generational differences often cause problems because each generation is attached to certain ideal values that are very likely to be different from one another. This study aims to understand the communication style of generation Z in Magelang City and the maintenance of relationships with previous generations (baby boomers, X, and Y generations). The theory of generation development, the concept of communication style, and relationship maintenance theory are used as analysis tools. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research type with a phenomenological approach to explain the social phenomena. The results show that Generation Z avoids the dominant style of communication. “Ngemong” then becomes the key as well as the middle way for the older generation to maintain a harmonious relationship with generation Z. Generation Y can act as an intermediary for both generation X and baby boomers towards the minding process in maintaining relations between generations.

Abstract

Different physical or nonphysical conditions bring the disabled group into the depletion chain, both socially, politically, and economically. It started from the low access to education to low uptake in the industrial world. The effort to break the depletion chain is to develop the self-sufficiency of children with disabilities and independence from the Gerakan untuk Kesejahteraan Tunarungu Indonesia (Gerkatin) through the guidance of digital marketing utilization. The empowerment approach is used in this activity from the start of planning activities, implementation, to evaluation through participatory methods and learning by doing. From the results of community devotion activities, the target group becomes more economically independent with digital marketing skills and shifting the gadget addiction to more rewarding online activities. The formation of Magelang Disabled Digital Interprenenur Community is an effort to ensure the continuity of the program.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh berbagai permasalahan penyandang disabilitas di Desa Balesari, Kecamatan Windusari, Kabupaten Magelang. Berbagai permasalahan tersebut antara lain keterbatasan yang dimiliki, belum adanya kelompok penyandang disabilitas di tingkat kabupaten menyebabkan transfer ilmu serta koordinasi menjadi sangat kurang efisien dan efektif, belum ada pelatihan dari pemerintah terkait pemberdayaan disabilitas, tingkat produktifitas masih kurang, dan tingkat ketergantungan yang masih tinggi. Program kemitraan masyarakat ini memiliki tujuan untuk mencapai kesejahteraan penyandang disabilitas dengan meningkatkan kemandirian mengenai hal-hal terkait (a) pembinaan kelompok penyandang disabilitas di Desa Balesari, (b) motivasi mendirikan usaha pribadi berdasarkan ketrampilan yang dimiliki sesuai dengan kemampuannya, dan (c) pembuatan perencanaan bisnis. Program kemitraan masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode ceramah, tutorial, dan diskusi. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah terbinanya kelompok disabilitas di Desa Balesari, sehingga disabilitas mempunyai motivasi kewirausahaan serta mempunyai dokumen perencanaan bisnis.
