Abstract

So far, generation Z stick to the stereotypes of antisocials, instant, lazy, and difficult to communicate with older generation. Generational differences often cause problems because each generation is attached to certain ideal values that are very likely to be different from one another. This study aims to understand the communication style of generation Z in Magelang City and the maintenance of relationships with previous generations (baby boomers, X, and Y generations). The theory of generation development, the concept of communication style, and relationship maintenance theory are used as analysis tools. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research type with a phenomenological approach to explain the social phenomena. The results show that Generation Z avoids the dominant style of communication. “Ngemong” then becomes the key as well as the middle way for the older generation to maintain a harmonious relationship with generation Z. Generation Y can act as an intermediary for both generation X and baby boomers towards the minding process in maintaining relations between generations.

Abstract

This study examines the work patterns of middle and young journalists in the newspaper industry. Journalists work patterns seen from the process of selecting news, researching news, and writing news. With the advent of the digital era, these three processes can be seen by the consumption patterns of digital media for middle and young journalists. This study was conducted using a study case with in-depth interviews with journalists of the Suara Merdeka newspaper. The results showed that the presence of digital media is used by middle and young journalists in the local newspape for personal needs outside of journalistic duties. The reason for this is the pattern of digital media consumption of young and middle journalists who are included in the categories of “joiners” and “conversationalists”. In other words they are connoisseurs and spectators. For news development and idea searches, they rely more on news sources in the form of press releases, local government, e-mail and emergency services rather than internet research. This is related to the company's principles which try to minimize legal problems from published news.

Abstract

Abstract. The socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on households in Indonesia has also had an impact on increasing child marriage at an early age. This is also supported through the understanding of women and men in marriage which is manifested through media messages. Likewise when talking about early marriage. This research wants to see how the representation of early marriage through cinema in Indonesia. Theory of Representation, Women's Inferiority, The Concept of Film in Mass Media, is used as a support for the analysis. The research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach using the critical discourse analysis model of Norman Fairclough. Norman Fairclough's critical discourse is considered appropriate to see the representation of women through cinema in Indonesia with the theme of early marriage because this approach looks at not only the text dimension, but also sociocultural practices and discourse practices. The results of this study indicate that the representation of women through cinema in Indonesia with the theme of early marriage is related to several discourses namely, religious discourse, sexuality and virginity discourse, marriage discourse and discourse on love. The text in Yuni's film keeps the discourse on love in marriage away or at least shifts the meaning of love. The meanings that appear in texts about women, marriage, and love in film texts are determined by the prevailing culture in society and in turn have an impact on women's decision-making if they are internalized and considered as truths that need not be questioned.
