Abstract

The implemetation of occupational health and safety (OHS) is highly important for employees’ safety, so that the implementation efforts are required. Knowledge about OHS is needed in a company to minimize work accidents due to employee's negligence. This research was to find out the correlation between knowledge and implementation efforts of occupational health and safety (OHS) in the employess of Sambas Wijaya Inc. This study was quantitative and used the cross-sectional approach technique. The samples were 65 employees of Sambas Wijaya Inc. Purbalingga, who were selected by purposive sampling technique. The majority respondents were 33 to 37 years old. The background knowledge of 70.8% of respondents was senior high school graduate. 75% of respondents had been working for more than five years in one of four occupations: crusher, asphalt mixing plant, maintenance, and logistics. The majority of respondents had a high level of OHS knowledge, namely 44 people (67.7%). The implementation of OHS done by most of the respondents was at a good level, namely 39 people (60%). The bivariate analysis used chi-square, showing that there was a significant correlation between knowledge level and implementation efforts of OHS in employees of Sambas Wijaya Inc. with the r-value 12.766 > r table 5.9915 and p-value 0.002 < α 0.0).

Abstract

Floods are among the most frequent natural disasters in Indonesia, including in Sirau Village, Kemranjen District, Banyumas Regency, Central Java Province. These recurring floods, occurring almost annually, result in significant infrastructure damage, economic losses, and health challenges for the affected communities. Moreover, the lack of preparedness, particularly among children, remains a critical issue. Preliminary interviews with the principal and students at MI Muhammadiyah 01 Sirau revealed that most students exhibit low levels of self-efficacy regarding flood disaster preparedness. This study employed a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The population comprised 40 fourth- and fifth-grade students from MI Muhammadiyah 01 Sirau, with total sampling used as the sampling method. Research instruments included the SIMBA (Siaga Menghadapi Banjir) puzzle and a self-efficacy questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The analysis revealed a significant improvement in students' self-efficacy levels after using the SIMBA puzzle, with a p-value of 0.001 (p 0.005). This finding confirms that the SIMBA puzzle effectively enhances students' confidence and preparedness in dealing with flood disasters. The SIMBA (Siaga Menghadapi Banjir) puzzle is an effective educational tool for improving self-efficacy among school-age children in flood disaster preparedness.

Abstract

The nurse handover is a technique for conveying and receiving information about patients in the most effective manner possible, involving brief, clear, and comprehensive explanations of independent nursing actions, collaborative actions that have been or need to be undertaken, and patient progress. Several factors influence the implementation of nurse handovers, including age, education level, work experience, knowledge, responsibility, communication, documentation, leadership of the head nurse, peer support, resources, nurse motivation, nurse attitudes, and coworker relationships. Objective: To identify factors related to the implementation of nurse handover. This study used a descriptive correlational quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach, employing the chi-square test. Data collection was conducted using total sampling with a questionnaire instrument distributed to 57 respondents. Results: The Chi-Square test with a significance level of 0.05 showed the following p-values for each factor: age (p = 0.005), education level (p = 0.008), work experience (p = 0.004), knowledge (p = 0.001), responsibility (p = 0.001), documentation (p = 0.000), and communication (p = 0.002). These results indicate significant correlation between age, education level, work experience, knowledge, responsibility, communication, and documentation, and the implementation of nurse handovers. Conclusion: Age, education level, work experience, knowledge, responsibility, communication, and documentation are significantly related to the implementation of nurse handovers.

Abstract

Contact dermatitis is a common inflammatory skin condition caused by exposure to irritants and allergens. The occupational type is the most frequent form, often affecting the hands and face due to direct exposure. This study aimed to identify factors associated with the occurrence of contact dermatitis among sand miners working in the Citanduy River, Cilacap Regency. Using a case-control design, data were collected from 60 sand miners selected through purposive sampling, a non-probability technique based on the researcher’s knowledge of the population. The findings showed that work duration had no significant relationship with contact dermatitis (P=0.127; OR=3.250). Personal hygiene was significantly associated with the condition (P=0.00; OR=16.429), indicating that poor hygiene greatly increases risk. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) was not significantly related (P=0.19; OR=4.125). Occupational history showed a strong and significant association (P=0.00; OR=17.376), suggesting that previous job exposure contributes to dermatitis. No significant relationship was found between allergy history and contact dermatitis (P=0.333; OR=2.364). Meanwhile, a history of skin disease was significantly associated (P=0.002; OR=6.909), meaning workers with prior skin problems were more vulnerable. In conclusion, work duration, PPE use, and allergy history were not significantly associated with contact dermatitis. However, personal hygiene, occupational history, and previous skin disease were key contributing factors. These findings emphasize the importance of improving hygiene and monitoring workers with a history of skin conditions to reduce the risk of contact dermatitis among sand miners.
