Abstract

This Society Service Program aimed to explore the unique tourism offered by Gunungsari Tourism Village of Kabupaten Madiun. Gunungsari people, through their Tourism Awareness Group (Kelompok Sadar Wisata) Sentono Taruno Puroboyo has offered Javanese Culture tourism packages which are branded as “Backdoor Tourism” and “Kampung Ajar Kejawen”. The programs arranged to develop this tourism village have been modified to fit in Covid 19 pandemic situation. The programs are documentary literature writing, Javanese culture-themed short story competition, bilingual travel guide, English for tourism training, protective health gear procurement for tourism place, Javanese manuscript writing on lontar leaves, and decorative display made of “Janur Kuning” (young leaf of big palm tree) through youtube channel, and digital technology training. Therefore, some methods and approaches are used in this program, including Participatory Rural Appraisal, Participatory Technology Development, Community Development, persuasive, and educative. This program has equipped Pokdarwis members with enough knowledge to communicate in English, manage the website and youtube channel, and supply their protective health gear. The direct impact of this program on Gunungsari tourism is the significant increase in the number of visitors coming on-site by applying strict health protocol in the tourism place to ensure tourist security.

Abstract

The research aimed to discuss the theme of the poem entitled “When Great Trees Fall” written by an African American poet, Maya Angelou. The theme stated implicitly in the poem was stages of grief. Therefore, the objectives of the research discussed: 1) stages of grief in Maya Angelou’s “When Great Trees Fall”, and 2) the concept of human and nature that describes grieving stages in the poem. The stages of grief that were implicitly stated in the poem meet the theory of stages of grief explained by Elizabeth Kübler-Ross. Besides, the theory of symbol was also used to analyze some images that presented some stages of grief experienced by the speaker of the poem. Dealing with the concept of human and nature, the theory of nature and that of ecocriticism met the analysis. Descriptive method was useful in the research, and three approaches were used to support the analysis were psychological, structural and formalist approaches. The research found that there were four stages of grief portrayed in the poem implicitly, that is, isolation, anger, depression and acceptance. While the concept of human and nature in the poem was described the use of natural phenomena and one of natural elements of life, that is, air. Even though the speaker felt grief because of the loss of the loved one, she is able to breathe in order to live the life.

Abstract

TOEFL which stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language is a test used to measure the English proficiency of those who are non-native English language speakers. This test is usually becoming one of the requirements to enrol on domestic and foreign universities and apply to the state-owned enterprise (BUMN) and to some other companies. SMAN 5 Madiun has not given any TOEFL introduction lessons to its students. This program aimed at providing the participants with the ability to solve every question in TOEFL. This society service program was done through e-learning due to the covid-19 pandemic's unable us to have offline meetings. The methods used in this program are demonstration, exercising, and lecturing. The evaluation done by comparing the result of pre and post-tests showed that there is a significant increase in participants’ ability to solve the TOEFL questions.

Abstract

Kelompok Sadar Wisata (pokdarwis) merupakan kelompok masyarakat yang peduli pada keberlangsungan pariwisata di suatu daerah. Saat ini, pokdarwis Desa Gunungsari sedang mengembangkan pariwisata di pasar Pundensari. Community Development yang dilaksanakan dalam Program Kemandirian Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan masyarakat melalui pengolahan maggot BSF sebagai kuliner ekstrem dan inovasi penutup kepala tradisonal yng disebut “udeng” sebagai souvenir dengan motif batik “eco-print” serta penambahan sarana edukasi di lokasi wisata berupa English Kids Corner. Hasil PKM secara kesuluruhan dapat terlaksana dengan baik.Pelatihan memaksimalkan pengolahan maggot menjadi kuliner ekstrem “maggot goreng garing”, telah terlasana dengan lancar, selanjutnya diharapkan kuliner ekstrem baru khas Gunungsari ini mampu menarik animo pengunjung. Pelatihan batik eco-print telah dilaksanakan, dan mendapat apresiasi perserta. Selanjutnya warga desa mampu mengembangkan batik eco-print sebagai usaha buah tangan khas desa Gunungsari yang layak untuk dijual dan bisa menarik khalayak. Pembuatan fasilitas dan pendampingan English Kids Corner sebagai tambahan fasilitas bagi pengunjung dari kalangan anak-anak telah terwujud dengan baik. Fasilitas edukasi ini diberi nama “Pondok Sinau lan Dolanan Basa Inggris” dalam satu kawasan wisata.
