Abstract

In an era where rapid digitalization and the pervasive influence of social media increasingly weaken moral authority within educational settings, the need to develop students’ Islamic personality has become more urgent than ever. Within this context, the PAI (Islamic Religious Education) teacher environment holds a pivotal role as a source of moral modeling, habituation, and educational interaction that directly shapes students’ religious character. This study aims to analyze the role of the PAI teacher environment in shaping students’ Islamic personality, as well as to identify the challenges encountered and the strategies implemented by teachers in this process. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the PAI teacher environment contributes significantly to the formation of students’ Islamic personality through moral exemplification, the habituation of Islamic values, meaningful educational communication, and student engagement in religious activities. The main challenges include the influence of social media, students’ inconsistency in practicing Islamic values, and varied levels of family support. Effective strategies consist of integrating Islamic values into instruction, strengthening the school’s Islamic culture, and fostering emotional closeness between teachers and students. This study contributes a conceptual model highlighting the strategic role of the PAI teacher environment in shaping students’ Islamic personality and offers practical recommendations for educational institutions seeking to enhance the quality of Islamic education.

Abstract

The phenomenon of virality on social media has introduced new dynamics into the Indonesian judicial system. This article aims to critically examine how public opinion developing on social media, particularly in viral cases, can influence the direction and outcomes of legal decisions. Employing the approach of Critical Legal Studies (CLS) and media sociology perspectives, this paper explores the role of algorithms as invisible actors that generate social pressure on law enforcement authorities. Case studies of several viral legal proceedings in Indonesia indicate the presence of public opinion interventions in judicial processes. This study applies a qualitative-descriptive method with a library research approach. Data were collected from various literature sources and analyses of social media interactions concerning the Ferdy Sambo case. The findings reveal that public opinion on social media plays a crucial role in shaping societal perceptions of justice and fostering transparency in law enforcement. High levels of public participation often demand greater accountability from legal authorities. However, the inability to regulate such participation can lead to legal distortion, posing risks to the objectivity of judicial processes. Therefore, while public opinion may serve as a constructive instrument of social control, the legal system must be upheld independently.

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the historical development of Qur’anic exegesis during the Abbasid dynasty, namely from 750 CE to 1258 CE. The discussion focuses on the history of the Abbasid dynasty, the development and codification of exegesis, the works and exegetes, as well as the dominant philosophical pattern of exegesis. This study employs a qualitative method and a type of library research that focuses on the study of texts and ideas concerning the dynamics of the development of Qur’anic exegesis and the emergence of philosophical exegesis during the Abbasid era. The results of this study indicate that the codification of exegesis writing, which began from the time of the Prophet until the medieval period, gave rise to a new method of interpretation, namely bi al-ra’y. This form of exegesis is based on previous  interpretations  derived  from  the  Prophet’s  hadith,  the  sayings  of the companions, and the tabi‘in. Regarding philosophical exegesis, the scientific confrontation that occurs within it departs from the classification of interpretive patterns into two, namely bi al-ma’thūr and bi al-ra’y (bi al-ijtihād), with philosophical exegesis included in this category. Meanwhile, the difference between the two lies in the presence or absence of a foundation in historical and linguistic realities within the text of the Qur’an as the basis of interpretation. This article contributes to enriching the treasury of Islamic thought by affirming that philosophical exegesis, although it invites pros and cons, plays an important role as a bridge between rationality and spirituality, while also showing that the Qur’an can be understood as an open text that encourages the human intellect to continuously explore new wisdom in line with the development of science and technology. In addition, the dialectic between revelation and reason during the Abbasid period demonstrates the strength of the Islamic intellectual tradition, so Muslims need to be open and realize that faith must be accompanied by deep understanding.
