Abstract

This paper discusses the war against drugs in China – from historical Opium Wars to contemporary issues with synthetic narcotics. This paper will thoroughly delve into the intricate interactions of governmental policies, public health initiatives, and societal changes. The drug scenario in China, previously opium-centric is now a cocktail of different drugs such as designer and misuse of prescription drugs.. We will analyze reasons for this change, which include social and economic pressures as well as impact of the digital world. This paper will focus on different ways through which China has been addressing the drug problem ranging from harsh crackdowns to more lenient harm reduction approaches that emphasize treatment and rehabilitation. We will assess how well these policies have worked, emphasizing successes, areas that need enhancement and any inadvertent consequences. But dealing with drug issues is not only about the rules; it’s also about smart healthcare decisions. Healthcare interventions, educational programs, and community outreach efforts designed to address the issue at its roots. These challenges include eliminating the stigma of using drugs, improving access to drug treatment, and mainstreaming harm reduction in discussions. It supports the development of policies that are flexible and based on evidence, focused more on public health as well as with law enforcements. This is the only approach that will allow us to deal with the problem properly, not just running after the dragon and making sure its shadow does not cast itself over a bright image of this nation.

Abstract

This article examines the fulfillment of womens' post-divorce rights initiated by the wife in the Religious Courts of the Mataraman Region, East Java. Applying the legal system and feminist legal theory, this article combines a normative juridical approach with case studies. The findings identify inconsistencies between the legal substance and its implementation in Mataraman Region, which affect the fulfillment of wives' rights after divorce. Law enforcement officers face challenges in enforcing these rules due to patriarchal culture and a lack of gender awareness. The legal culture within society also influences the process of fulfilling wives' rights, particularly concerning the impact of patriarchal culture and gender stereotypes. Utilizing feminist legal theory, gender bias in the application of the law often disadvantages women, indicating the urgent need for fundamental changes to achieve gender justice. Therefore, revising and harmonizing legal regulations in a more specific and detailed manner through implementing rules issued by the Supreme Court and enhancing gender awareness among law enforcement officers and the community is crucial to ensure the fair and equitable fulfillment of wives' rights post-divorce.

The traditional authority of kyai in pesantren significantly influences religious moderation in East Java, making it a crucial issue to study amidst growing social harmony and diversity challenges. Previous studies have predominantly focused on the educational and spiritual aspects of pesantren without delving deeply into the role of kyai in shaping values of moderation. This research aims to analyze how the traditional authority of kyai in pesantren influences the practice of religious moderation, particularly in the context of East Java’s local culture. A descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach was employed. The research focused on pesantren in East Java, known for their strong influence in local communities. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. Data analysis involved reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Abstract

The coexistence of Islamic law and state legal systems presents significant challenges, especially in multicultural societies, where multiple legal systems intersect and influence governance, human rights, and societal integration. Despite significant interest in the concept of legal pluralism, there is still a lack of clarity on how these two legal frameworks can work together without causing conflicts, especially when it comes to issues like family law, human rights, and governance. Through a detailed comparison of case studies, legal texts, and real-life examples, the research identifies areas where these legal systems overlap and clash, particularly regarding gender equality, the protection of human rights, and jurisdictional conflicts. The study also looks at potential solutions, such as legal reforms and the creation of hybrid legal bodies that can help complement the two systems. The findings suggest that while there are significant challenges in balancing these systems, there are also opportunities for greater cooperation and understanding. This article emphasizes the importance of legal reforms, improved communication between legal authorities, and the creation of shared spaces where both legal systems can coexist more effectively. It aims to provide practical insights for legislators and legal practitioners to improve the way these legal frameworks work together, eventually promoting justice and social cohesion in multicultural societies
