Abstract

Education is verv important because it is a moral enterprise that shapes human development. A good education system should be able to develop students' potential by appreciating the diversity owned by students without pressure. force and violence especially from the individual of a teacher. In the cbntext of classroom developing autonomy and humanity is not a natural process, but an interactive process between teacher and students under social power relationships. Teacher's speech acts in the classroom potentially break the humanistic education principles. Discussing the relationship betrveen teacher's speech acts and the humanistic teaching is interesting to be explored. A teacher. someone who has authority in the classroom should be able to implement the humanistic teaching. Humanistic teaching is a teaching process that considers the principles of humanism involving the consideration of each individual's potential and self actualization. Because in teaching learning process: the interaction between teacher and students occurs naturally. It needs teacher's awareness in uttering speech acts. Teachers must be aware that their speech acts will have great impact to students. It can shape students' attitude not only towards teacher but also to lesson taught by that teacher. Therefore, promoting the implementation of humanistic teaching through teachers' speech acts awareness is a must.

Abstract

Ability to construct a good sentence is a requirement in writing an essay. However some students often found some difficulties in organizing the good sentences. They may face difficulties in various aspects, including grammar. Those difficulties faced by students are what then become mistakes or errors. The main focus of this study is to find out the types of errors in constructing sentences and the frequency of error occurrence in each type. This research is descriptive design with the sample from the second year students of English Education Program of University of Pasir Pengaraian. The data analysis was using error analysis by classifying the students‟ errors based on the surface strategy taxonomy errors involving omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. From the finding of the study, it reveals that the high frequency of error occurrence is error of omission with 40 times which means 37.7 % of error total. The next most error made by the students was in Error of misformation with 37 times or 34.9%. The students made 21 times of Error of Addition or 19.8 %. They also made 8 times of Error of misorder or 7.5 %. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the students still have problems in constructing sentences when writing an essay.

Abstract

One of Indonesian students' difficulties in learning English is pronouncing English sounds correctly. Indonesian language as mother tongue influences significantly to the way of Indonesian students in pronouncing English sounds. Compared to English, Indonesian language generally does not have differences between spelling the letter and pronouncing the sounds. Among all English sounds, diphthongs are assumed as one of the most difficulties pronounced by Indonesian students. This study was conducted to thirty five students of University of Pasir Pengaraian, Riau Province by using mix method where the researcher gave test to find out students’ difficulties in pronouncing English diphthongs and observation to describe the factors influencing students’ difficulties in pronouncing English diphthongs. The result of study showed that the most difficult of English diphthong was [аυ] sound. Factors influencing students have difficulties in pronouncing English diphthongs were mother language interfere, lack of knowledge in English sound systems and unsuccessful in using borrowed English words. This study is expected can give contribution in improving Indonesian students pronunciation especially diphthong sounds.

Abstract

To improve students’ reading interest, a comprehensive research was needed.The purpose of this research was to implement Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition(CIRC)on reading interest.This research was quasi experimental research. It was nonequivalent control group design; post-test only design. The treatments were only done in experimental class while control class was taught as usual. Regarding to population selection, total sampling was used. It consisted of two classes. They were thirty nine students. Control class was taught by small group discussion and experimental class was taught by Cooperative Integrated Reading Composition. Reading comprehension test, Questionnaire, and interview were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed by using independent t-test. The finding was students who were taught by cooperativeintegrated reading composition (CIRC) had better scores (comprehension well) thanthose who were taught by small group discussion. However the reading interest of students were still low that can be seen from the time spent for reading and kinds of book read.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to examine the effect of using realia objects toward students’ achievement in writing descriptive text at tenth grade of SMK N 1 Tambusai Utara. The design of this research was quasi experimental research design. The research used cluster sampling with 32 students as participants for both of experimental and control classes. SPSS was used to analyze the data. After analyzing the data by using independent sample t-test, the data showed that there was a significant effect in post-test score between experimental and control classes. The mean score in experimental class was 51.3031 with the standard deviation was 6.46. Meanwhile in control class the mean of post-test score was 39.617, and standard deviation was 6.67319. With df both of two classes was 30, and t-value was 5.184 with p-value 0.000 compared with t-table 5% (0.05) = 1697 and 1% (0.01) = 2457. The data shows that t-value of 5.184 > t-table 5% = 1697 and 1% = 2457. Thus the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that there was a significant effect of using realia objects toward students’ achievement in writing descriptive text at the tenth grade of SMK N1 Tambusai Utara.

Abstract

This article discusses the meaning and types of English slangs found in the Ant Man Movie directed by Peyton Reed, produced by Wald Disney Studios Motion Pictures, 2015. The main object of the research was to find out themeaning of English slangs found in the Ant Man Movie and classify themdepending on its characteristics of English Slangs types. This research used a qualitative method. In Classifying the English Slangs, researchers used theory from Coleman that classifying English slangs into seven; English Slang changes in meaning, English Slang changes in function, English Slang change in form, English Slang created by abbreviation, English Slangchanges in spelling, Slangs loans and Slangs from imitating sound. Through this research, researchers found forty English Slangs in the Ant Man Movie; fourteen English Slangs created by changes in meaning, two English Slangs created by changes in, twelve English Slangs created by changes, five English Slangs created by abbreviation, seven English Slangs created bychanges in spelling, four English Slangs loans, and two English Slangs are from sound. English slangs are non-register language. It is more acceptable in daily life because it is fresher and simple in use.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the types of grammatical errors frequently made by students in delivering the impromptu speech. The aim of learning a language is to be able to communicate in a right way. There is no a silent language knowledge, a language must be produced in words to achieve its goals in learning second or foreign language comprehending. Trough speaking, we can see how is a speaker skill in mastering a lang uage. A good speaker is who able to produce language which arranged as its rule. In speaking, appropriate sentence structure and context are very helping in order to gain listener‟s comprehending. In collecting the data, the researcher used documentation of video of impromptu speech. A method to analyze the error is called error analysis. The indicators are: (a) Morphology error (b) Syntax error. From these indicators, the researcher find out students‟ grammatical error in delivering the impromptu speech. In this research, the researcher found 127 errors in morphology. Those were 34 (14,5%) errors in noun, 77 (33%) errors in verb, 4 (2%) errors in adjective, 2 (1%) errors in adverb, 10 (4%) errors in preposition. In syntax was found 107 errors. Those were 26 (11%) errors in phrase, 33 (14%) errors in clause, 21 (9%) errors in sentence, and 27(11,5%) errors in intersentence. From the result, the researcher concluded that the most frequent grammatical error found in verb.

Abstract

The purpose of the research were to analyze the process of word formation found in the online newspaper ANTARA NEWS and to find out what are widely used in word formation process in this news. Word formation process have 10 types those are coinage, borrowing, compounding, blending, clipping, backformation, conversion, acronym, derivation and multiple processes and in this research the researcher analyzed 5 types of word formation such as compounding, acronym, blending clipping, and derivation. The descriptive qualitative method was used in this research to investigate word formation process in Antara news in the business term. The data of this research are words that contained the process of forming English words. The instrument of this research is print out the news from the internet, classifying the word in business term, identifying and analyzing the data as the procedure of the research. The result of this research indicated that are 117 data. There are 3 types of word formation process found in this research such as compounding (9,40%), acronym (5,98%) and derivation (84,62%) . However In this research the researcher did not find blending and clipping process. The function of word formation in this research, there are those that combined to separated word, some are abbreviated of the sentence and affixes process, both of affixes at the front or back of the word. In this research, the researcher found the derivation as the most of word formation process.
