Abstract

Abstract This research looks at listening as one factor that gives contribution toward speaking among high school students. The study attempts to reveal through data analysis, in the form of students’ score from each variable that both have correlation. Further the objective of the study is also to find out the extent of influence contributed by listening toward speaking. The research applies library study and field study (instrument designing and test performing both for listening and speaking). The theory used for analysis deals with listening and speaking correlation from language learning review. The result of the study demonstrates that the correlation of listening as the independent variable with speaking as dependent variable is positive. It also proves that with a unit of program or treatment given toward listening class, there will be a significant improvement equals with 3.134 times from previous speaking score for the same sample. For the analysis of data, the extent of correlation between two varibales is shown as low. It indicates that even though listening do have positive correlation towarde speaking, it is not the only deminant factor to determine success in speaking.

Abstract

Imperative Mood (IM) for Javanese is strongly related to social status determining language choice. Triglossia of Ngoko, Madya and Krama are pictured in language use as well as prosodic features of pitch contour. To look at how English IM transfers to Javanese is the purpose of this research as well as how this process influences variant of pitch contours produced by Javanese speaker. This is a comparative study highlighting difference and similarity visualized by Javanese and English pitch contours with similar semantic meaning to be analyzed in pragmatics stylistic framework. Imperative to Command (IC) cannot take place in Bottom-Up situation in Javanese for social reason which puts Imperative to Request (IR) and Imperative to Invite (II) as substitutions. Using sound production of Javanese from Jogja and Solo on English and Javanese imperative, intonation pattern from both languages is analyzed using PRAAT and described in pitch range. Findings of this research display cultural background of Javanese in IM which may be useful for English pronunciation class.

Abstract

Playing a crucial role in ensuring an aviation operation's safety and security, an Aviation Security Officer (AVSEC) is equipped with particular knowledge and skills. These are regulated in an international standard and ministered by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as an Indonesian administrator. To apply as an AVSEC, the compulsory administrative requirement is an AVSEC license issued by DGCA. Special training and competency tests are held by approved institutions at cost. Minimizing the cost while providing adequate training for its students, Sriwijaya Aviation Vocational School decided to participate in a community service program held by STTKD, School of Aerospace Technology. The program specifically complies with knowledge provision and skills practice around AVSEC duties. Materials are designed as close as possible to approved AVSEC training and tests to help participants with the provision to take the real test. Among all the material in an approved AVSEC training, this program delivers material about AVSEC duties and problems, situational awareness at the airport, and politeness in English imperative for AVSEC.

Abstract

The research was to find out linguistics’ indicators of errors found in the body content of false news discourse mingling around air transportation issues that appeared 2-years before the presidential election in 2019. The qualitative research used hoax discourse from the turnbackhoax.com collection. Errors found in discourse were later generated according to linguistics’ domain in Dulay et al., as well as additional spelling errors and surface strategy taxonomy. Toward false news (n=44) found in the data source, errors majorly emerge in newly ungrammatical word formation with omission process equitably distributed in all linguistics’ domains. Errors in phonology portray localization in several dialects in Indonesia, while errors in morphology and syntax appear for language economy purposes. Primarily affected, lexicon and semantics is the domain with the most variant of surface structure errors (n=4). This is relevant to the hoax spread’s intended purpose to deceive the audience by modifying words in originally true news to give different content meanings. Omission resulting in word shortening in the form of blending and clipping with 98% occurrences is popularly used by millennials with a medium level of media literacy to communicate in the digital society environment. To enhance relatedness in readers’ thoughts and feelings, explain errors that deliberately happened in pragmatics and spelling. Being familiar with these indicators can alert the public to question a post’s credibility, thus encouraging the urge for clarification.

Abstract

The Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers must navigate the complex interaction of maintaining authority while demonstrating politeness in their communication with passengers. This research explores how aspects of language proficiency for interaction are used by AVSEC officers to balance these roles and construct their professional identity. The research problem addresses how interaction proficiency serves both the functional need for authority and the relational need for politeness. The objective of the study is to identify the markers that contribute to this balance on communication effectiveness. Employing qualitative analysis, data were collected through recordings, observation and in depth interview of AVSEC officers at several workload simulations. The study finds that effective communication in AVSEC relies on a blend of clear verbal instructions and strong non-verbal cues to manage interactions smoothly and professionally. Officers must respond quickly, clarify when necessary, and interpret both verbal and non-verbal signals to prevent misunderstandings and uphold security. AVSEC officers balance authority with courtesy, using direct language and body language to ensure passenger cooperation, safety, and comfort.

Abstract

This study analyses Service Dominant Logic (SDL) in the context of services at Angkasa Pura Adi Soemarmo Airport by comparing human-based and Chatbot-based communication. The urgency of this research stems from the increasing adoption of digital technologies such as Chatbots in information service, which potentially shifts the dynamics of interaction and influences passenger satisfaction. A mismatch between customer expectations and service experience—whether delivered by humans or Chatbots—may impact airport business processes, including operational efficiency, time management, and customer loyalty. This research employs a quantitative method with a population of airport passengers from 2016 to 2023 and a sample of 100 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square tests via SPSS. The results show that human communication scored highest in the value co-creation dimension with 1754 points, while Chatbots performed best in the service exchange dimension with 865 points. The Chi-square test indicates a significant relationship between the two types of communication (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that strategic integration of human and Chatbot communication is essential to enhance passenger satisfaction and optimize service efficiency in the air transport sector.
