Abstract

The anxiety of learning a foreign language can be an obstacle in achieving the learning goals. Concerning the learning anxiety, the students of the English Education Study Program of FKIP UHAMKA were also dealing with the anxious experience when learning speaking conducted online. It seems unavoidable for students of English Foreign Language (EFL) to face anxiety when online learning. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to investigate the coping strategies that most students use to overcome speaking anxiety during online learning. 62 students in the fourth semester were respondents to this study. The data were then qualitatively collected using two types of questionnaires: closed-ended and open-ended questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, which described and tabulated the students’ responses.  After analyzing the closed-ended and open-ended responses, it is reasonable to conclude that the respondents mostly used the strategies of preparation, positive thinking, and peer seeking to cope with speaking anxiety in the context of online learning. In addition, based on open-ended responses, preparation was the most commonly used strategy by them.

Abstract

In the era of School from Home (SFH) due to the outbreak of Covid-19 has certainly affected the learning process for all students. Students and teachers have to plunge into the new world in which they must adapt to the new pattern of education. Both of them, like it or not, should immerse in digital world, in the sense they have to acquire technology to run teaching learning process by virtual. For this reason, it is necessary for the team of Community Service (PkM) of Muhammadiyah University of Prof. Dr. Hamka to participate in supporting teachers’ teaching learning process at SMK Muhammadiyah 15 Jakarta to equip them with the knowledge of selecting the appropriate digital media for better teaching. The method used is giving training how to select digital media before implementing in the class. Therefore, this training started with a questionnaire, recognizing learning problems, selecting suitable digital media and putting them in a research proposal.  The results of training show that the teachers are able to recognize learning problems, select the appropriate digital media, and put them in a research proposal. Through the post-questionnaire, the teachers realized the importance of selecting suitable digital media for virtual teaching in the time of online learning.

Abstract

Masa pandemi Covid-19 mengakibatkan anak-anak tidak bisa belajar dengan tatap muka normal di sekolah, digantikan dengan belajar dari rumah dengan memanfaatkan teknologi digital. Orangtua tidak pernah mempersiapkan diri untuk mendampingi anak belajar dari rumah dengan menggunakan teknologi digital sebelumnya, namun harus melakukannya demi keselamatan semua pihak. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi orangtua tentang pemanfaatan teknologi digital pada anak usia 4-6 tahun pada masa pandemi. Studi ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan peneliti sebagai instrumen kunci. Responden penelitian ini adalah 92 orangtua murid Taman Kanak-kanak di Kota Bekasi yang menerapkan pembelajaran dari rumah di masa pandemi dan memanfaatkan teknologi digital. Data dikumpulkan melalui angket dan wawancara, kemudian dianalisis melalui reduksi dan penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa : 1) Durasi pemanfaatan teknologi digital oleh anak pada pandemi paling lama adalah pengoperasian telepon pintar dengan penggunaan aplikasi youtube; 2) Pemahaman orangtua tentang pemanfaatan teknologi digital masuk kategori baik karena mampu menjelaskan perlengkapan digital yang digunakan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, memahami dampak baik dan buruk pemanfaatan teknologi, serta memahami perlunya kebijakan pemaafaatan alat teknologi sesuai umur anak; 3) Mayoritas orangtua memberikan tanggapan negative terhadap pemanfaatan teknologi digital bagi anak; 4) Untuk menghindari dampak negative pemanfaatan teknologi digital pada anak, maka sikap orangtua cenderung mengambil sikap melakukan tindakan pencegahan; 5) Orangtua mempunyai harapan positif anak akan mendapatkan kebaikan dari kemajuan teknologi dan terhindar dari keburukan akibat penggunaannya.

Abstract

Problem-based learning (PBL) and project-based learning (PjBL) are learning models set by the Ministry of Education and Culture to be implemented in schools. Therefore, teachers are expected to be able to apply both models to achieve learning objectives at school. At SMAN 3 Tambusai Utara, Rokan Hulu, Riau, teachers are mostly not familiar with the implementation of PBL and PjBL yet. For this reason, the Uhamka PkM team organized a training to equip the teachers with skills to implement PBL and PjBL based on TPACK.  In the training process, the teachers are given theoretical knowledge of PBL and PjBL followed by writing action research proposals. The training model is conducted online with synchronous and asynchronous activities using Zoom Meeting and Email. The training results show that the teachers can develop action research proposals with PBL and PjBL models based on TPACK. In other words, teachers are able to design proposals and select attractive digital media to support students' enthusiasm for learning.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bermitra dengan Sekolah Dasar Negeri Susukan 06 dan 07 Jakarta Timur. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah untuk memberikan pelatihan pada guru-guru SDN Susukan 06 dan 07 mengenai pembelajaran digital infografis agar dapat membantu mereka dalam proses pembelajaran jarak jauh School from Home (SFH) yang sudah ditetapkan oleh pemerintah pada tahun ini. Banyak guru yang belum terampil membuat dan menggunakan berbagai aplikasi digital untuk membuat media pembelajaran digital untuk membantu proses pembelajaran jarak jauh atau School from Home (SFH), dan mereka kurang memiliki pengetahuan tentang media pembelajaran digital; salah satunya infografis. Setelah mengikuti pelatihan media pembelajaran digital khususnya media infografis, para guru sudah mampu membuat dan mendisain media infografis untuk berbagai mata pelajaran, seperti: olah raga, biologi, IPA dan lain-lain. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan hasil karya para peserta pelatihan yang sangat baik. Harapannya para guru-guru yang sudah terlatih akan mampu meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran di sekolah. Mereka mampu memilih dan merancang serta memanfaatkan aplikasi digital yang sesuai dalam proses pembelajaran jarak jauh School from Home (SFH) sehingga guru bisa menyajikan materi yang menarik dan berkualitas sehingga dapat memacu semangat dan kreativitas peserta didik.Kata Kunci: Digital learning; School from home; Learning media

Abstract

Media is essential to support learning activities, as they can capture the students’ attention when the learning process takes place. YouTube is one of the media that the students can pick anytime, especially for learning speaking. Therefore, the aim of this research is trying to explore the students’ perception on the use of YouTube Videos in learning speaking. This research uses a mixed-method design, and the data are collected using questionnaire and an interview. 30 students from public speaking course participated to fill out the questionnaire; 10 of them are interviewed to gain deeper information. After analysing the data using Likert Scale, the results shows that the students’ perception on the use of YouTube is significantly positive toward their learning. Based on the mean score, their opinion and interpretation about using YouTube videos are in good category or (4,22) and (4,13). From the interview, the result reinforces their exciting and enthusiasm in learning using YouTube videos. It means YouTube videos is favorable for learning particularly English speaking.
