Abstract

Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb. is a plant containing curcumin. Curcumin has been shown toreduce oxidative damage and memory deficits associated with aging. The aim of the researchwas to know the effect of Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb. rhizome ethanol extract to memoryfunction on Wistar rats induced by trimethyltin. The research design was post test onlycontrolled group with 42 rats divided into 6 groups, Each group consist of 7 rats. Group I(healthy controls) were given a solution of 0.5% CMC-Na orally. Group II (negative control)were given a solution of 0.5% CMC-Na orally. Group III, IV, and V were given Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb. extract each 120 mg/kgBW, 240 mg/kgBW, and 480 mg/kgBW orally.Group VI (positive control) were given piracetam 500 mg/kgBW intraperitoneally. All groupswere given trimethyltin intraperitoneally except group I. Data indicating memory function wereobtained from radial maze test and passive avoidance test. Radial maze test data were analyzedby ANOVA followed by LSD test, while the passive avoidance test data were analyzed with theKruskal Wallis test followed by Mann-Whitney test. In conclusion, ethanol extract oftemulawak rhizome (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb.) at doses of 120 mg/kgBW, 240 mg/kgBWand 480 mg/kgBW can prevent memory function decline on Wistar rats induced bytrimethyltin.

Abstract

One of the skin diseases that are often experienced by people is acne. The bacteria found in acne are P. acnes, S. aureus, and S. epidermidis. The preparation was chosen in this formulation because it is more practical and durable in storage. Gel preparations were chosen because it dry easily, can form a film layer that is easy to wash, and gives a cool feeling to the skin. Physical stability tests need to be carried out to ensure the quality, safety, and usefulness of the gel so that it meets the expected specifications and is stable in storage. This study aims to make a gel formulation and determine the physical properties of green algae Ethanolic extract gel. The optimum gel formula is determined based on variations in the concentration of Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. The Gel that meets the criteria of homogeneity, consistency, pH , and dispersibility is determined as the optimum formula. The physical stability of the optimum formula was tested by organoleptic, homogeneity, pH test, spreadability test, and viscosity test. The gel that met the acceptance criteria was green algae ethanolic extract gel with a concentration of 3% HPMC so that it was determined as the optimum formula.

Abstract

Butterfly pea flower (Clitoria ternatea L.) and white turmeric (Curcuma zedoaria) have antioxidant activity and can be combined to make a peel off gel mask. To ensure the quality and safety of the peel off gel mask, it is necessary to evaluate its physical properties and test for irritation. The manufacturing process involves extracting butterfly pea flower and white turmeric using a maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent. The resulting extract was tested for phytochemistry to identify alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids and tannins. The preparation was formulated with variations in extract concentrations: FI (1:3), FII (2:2) and FIII (3:1). Evaluation of physical properties includes organoleptic tests, pH, spreadability, homogeneity, stickiness, drying time and viscosity. Irritation tests were carried out on New Zealand rabbits. The result indicated that the peel off gel mask with various extract concentrations met most of the physical property evaluation requirements even though the pH test did not meet the standards. The EEBT and EEKP combination peel off gel mask did not cause irritation in New Zealand rabbits during 72 hours of observation.
