Abstract

This study attempts to expose the common structural errors of second language acquisition in bahasa Indonesia for foreign speakers (BIPA) learning at the beginner level and also to expose the implications of the errors for learning. This research utilizes descriptive qualitative method by describing in depth the findings in data analysis. This qualitative research focuses on the analysis of sentence structure, clauses, phrases, and also morphological structures. By doing so, it is expected that typical errors can be identified. Furthermore, this research is expected to help teachers to become more aware of these errors since by identifying the most problematic errors, teachers are able to relate fundamental concepts of sentences as well as those related to their own understanding of linguistics concepts, language and BIPA teaching, and also learners understanding as the part of learning.

Abstract

The activities of Society Partnership Program (PKM) was carried out together with the youth organization of Karang Taruna MAATOON in Parangargo village, Wagir sub district, Malang Regency. The purposes of the activities are 1) to empower the youth to become entrepreneurs and get involved in developing creative economy, 2) to develop the skill of designing words, phrases, and sentences used to produce saleable word-based T-shirts, like Dagadu and Joger, 3) to facilitate the Karang Taruna in producing and marketing the products. In order to achieve the purposes, on the aspects of production and management, some trainings and workshops have been already done, such as training of word designing through Corel Draw application and workshop of finance management and digital marketing. These activities of Society Partnership Program (PKM) were done in stages, namely preparation, program planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Abstract

This article discusses about how teaching listening class was implemented in the English practice program during covid-19 pandemic. Descriptive method was applied to find out whether selected material utilized by effective instructional media could meet the learning objective of the English practice program. The result showed that both the intensive and extensive material in listening class could be applied by using some media that can be used during online class by considering both students and instructors’ internet access. The selected online media platform that can replace face-to-face meeting is Google Meet application, while Google Classroom, YouTube, and WhatsApp application are selected to share and submit the class’s assignments. The teacher’s role in engaging the students with particular activities are highlighted.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to recognize errors in the sentence structure of students' paragraph writing tasks. Quantitative research is applied to find out what type of errors and frequent errors are made by students in writing English paragraphs. There were 20 students' paragraph writing analyzed on the aspect of the verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, pronoun agreement, sentence fragments, and run-on sentences/ comma splices. The result showed that the total for all kinds of errors made by the students in this assignment of paragraph writing was 82 errors. The two frequent errors occur in verb tense (23%) and run-on sentences (27%).

Abstract

In the contemporary world, technological advancements have paved the way for online businesses to tap into a broader market using the internet and mobile devices. This implementation of Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) aims to achieve two primary objectives: firstly, training the "Bina Bugis Squads" Youth Community, and secondly, empowering them to engage in online selling through social media platforms, including Tokopedia, which facilitates product marketing across the archipelago. Registering on Tokopedia offers distinct advantages such as effective customer reviews and complaint management (UK), ensuring certification and security (SK), competitive product pricing (HP), comprehensive product descriptions (DP), and reliable transportation options (TR). The enthusiasm to provide workshops to several sellers drives them to embrace online selling through social media and diverse platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and the community itself

Abstract

Anxiety is one of the factors influencing students’ speaking performance in the classroom. A video making task is an alternative strategy that can decrease anxiety besides it provides a positive influence on students’ self-assessment of speaking task. Hence, the objective of this study was to describe how video making task could decrease students’ anxiety in speaking class. This study used a descriptive qualitative method in which the data source was the students’ performance in video to require the task of procedure text presentation in speaking class. The data were collected by using observation and interview. And the result of the observation of the video showed that most of the students seemed less anxious and more relaxed in explaining the assigned materials. In the interview, the students also said that they felt more confident in presenting the task. In conlusion, the video making task could decrease students’ anxiety in students’ speaking performance
