Abstract

Purpose:This study focuses on an online Arabic learning through synchronous and asynchronous approaches. Meanwhile, the aims of this study are; 1) describing implementation of synchronous and asynchronous online Arabic learning in higher education, 2) investigating its advantages and disadvantages, 3) offering solutions in learning Arabic through e-learning. Design/methodology/approach:This is a descriptive qualitative research that applies an observation method, interview, and documentation to collect the data. Afterwards, identity method is used to investigate the data. Then, triangulation is applied for validity check Findings/result:The result shows that synchronous e-learning is the most widely applied in learning Arabic for IPIREL UMY (75 %) and IPIEF UMY (62%). On the contrary, Arabic learning (IBA) at UINSA tends to apply asynchronous e-learning (75%). Originality/value:It is important for lecturer to prepare the best method and media for distance learning. By understanding what students need, lecturer may determine how important for students to learn Arabic through synchronous or asynchronous approach. Paper type:Research paper

Abstract

One of main component for every language is verb. In Arabic, qāla (قال) is one of verbs which substantively is used in many oral and written language due to its wide meaning. This research focuses on meaning variation of qāla (قال) when it was translated into Indonesian. In this study, differential meaning can be caused by differential speaker and also differential context. Thereby, the research aims to classify and explain every single meaning of qāla (قال) verb. This descriptive qualitative research uses observation method with tapping technique. Meanwhile, the data was analyzed by translational method, referential method, and pragmatics method. The result of the research shows that; (1) There are three differential meanings of qāla (قال) according to speaker perspective, as well as ‘berfirman’, ‘bersabda’, and ‘berkata’. (2) There are some differential meanings of qāla (قال) according to linguistics perspective, such as ‘berkata, mengatakan, mengabarkan, mengumumkan, berbicara, mengucapkan, mengaku, pendapat, bertanya, menjawab, perintah, and berdoa.

Abstract

Involving first language (L1) in second language learning (L2) is considered as an effective method to be practiced. This research focuses on a contrastive study between Arabic and Indonesian. It aims to investigate similarities and differences of the two languages, especially about their interrogative sentence forms. It is descriptive qualitative research which applies two methods; observation and introspection method. Then, Contrastive Analysis (CA) is used to analyze the data. The result shows that similarity concept between Arabic and Indonesian is many shown on matā, ayna, limādzā, and hal. Meanwhile, differences between both of them are shown on mā, man, ayy, and kayfa. As a result, it may occur errors in the use of question, errors in translating interrogative sentence, and errors in understanding question.

Abstract

Google meet and whatsapp are two technologies that are used byteachers as an alternative media for distance learning for Amanatul UmmahIslamic Boarding School students who want to continue their studies inthe Middle East. This study is classified as a descriptive-qualitative. Thedata collection was taken from questionnaires, interviews (unstructured),observation, and documentation. The primary data source is the AmanatulUmmah Islamic boarding school students who attended intensive Arabictutoring. The secondary data are taken from questionnaires, documentation,and literature study. The results showed that the use of the google meetand whatsapp applications was quite effective in delivering Arabic learningmaterials to students. That is supported by the results of the questionnairewhich shows that respondents are able to follow and understand onlinelearning using these two applications.

Abstract

This research focused on hamzah {أ} prefix and gemination {ــّــ} of fi’l tsulatsy mazid in Arabic: Case study from surah al baqarah. It was aimed to describe: (1)hamzah prefix and gemination of fi’l tsulatsy mazid’s distributions from surah al baqarah; (2) meaning from their distributions. The approach applied in this research is descriptivequalitative. Meanwhile, the method of collecting data is observation method with recording andtaking note technique.According to the number of data, there are five formulas found related to prefix hamzah {أ} and gemination {ــّــ}.In this case, hamzah {أ} prefixfrom surah al baqarahmight be distributeto verb, noun, adjective, andadverb. Then, gemination{ــّـ}might be distribute to verb, noun, and adjective. Furthermore, there was one similarity between them. Either hamzah prefix or gemination has benefactive meaning when it was distributed to verb, noun, and also adjective.

Abstract

The prestige of Turkish drama series in the world cinema is considered worthy of appreciation. Every drama that is presented can grab the attention of the audience. It is because of some elements such as theme, genre, storyline, and setting. One of the Turkish dramas that have caught the public attention is the drama series of Sultan Abdul Hamid II. This study aims to describe illocutionary speech as well as the meaning of the utterances contained in this drama series. This is qualitative descriptive research. The data collection technique used was the speaking-free listening technique. Meanwhile, the data analysis techniques used were (1) recording the utterances contained in the series Sultan Abdul Hamid II episode 1, (2) collecting and classifying utterances, and (3) describing the intent of the utterances. Based on the results of data analysis, there are four types of illocutionary, including directive, declarative, representative, and expressive. In directive utterances, utterances are related to the actions of ordering, begging, requesting, forbidding, and suggesting. Then, in the utterance of the declaration, there are elements of affirmation that contain the intention of glorifying, deciding, maintaining secrecy, and satirizing. Meanwhile, representative utterances are related to utterances that intend to state, to reveal, to report, and to describe. Then in expressive speech, various expressions express the intention of praising, praying, expressing thanks, admiration, satirizing, and conveying joy.

Abstract

When it comes to public speaking, one of the keys to success is stylistics. In this case, the ability to play the stylistic aspect has an effect on the process of persuasion for the audience. This research paper is about Dr. Hanada Taha Thomure's TED Talk, "Al Lughah Al'Arabiyah, Wathan," which took place at Zayed University in Dubai. It aims to explain the stylistic strategy and ideology of Hanada Taha Thomure in the speech. This is a descriptive qualitative study. There are three steps used, including data collection, data analysis, and exposure to data analysis research. The listening method is used to collect data, along with recording and note-taking technique. Meanwhile, data analysis is conducted by analysing stylistics and interpreting ideology. The research shows that there are a large number of stylistic variations in Hanada’s speech, such as repetition, kiasmus, epizeukis, epistrofa, asonansi, simile, metaphor, personification, sinestesia, hyperbole, klimaks, rhetoric, and code switching. Then, the nationalist ideology can be seen in every sentence presented by Hanada, either explicitly or implicitly.
