Abstract

foreign learner on studying English. This study aims at analyzing and describing translation techniques and translation competence of Indonesian EFL learners. The research was carried by descriptive research method. The number of respondent is 35 students on majoring of English Education, and the translation test as the instrument. The result of descriptive analysis shows that the literal translation technique (word by word) is mostly used. Moreover, the other techniques, sorting from the highest percentage, are free translation technique, omission, addition, and compensation, replacement of word class, explication-implication, and paraphrase. Moreover, the translation competence of respondents was on 48.57% in the interval scores 60-70.  With the average score of 72, 34, the translation competence achieved by the respondents is categorized as fair. Therefore, translation competence by the source text is quite fair organized with comprehending of the content sufficiently, yet there is still mistake on diction, grammar, punctuation and word selection influencing the quality of the translated target text.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the effects of student’s perception on using audio visual media and independent learning altogether towards student’s reading skill. And, to know the effect of student’s perception on using audio visual media towards student’s reading skill, next, to know the effect of independent learning towards reading skill. The research method which is used is survey. The amount of sample is 60 students who are chosen randomly (cluster random sampling) out of 3 schools in East Jakarta (SMA Negeri 88, 99, and 51 Jakarta) grade X in academic year 2012/2013. The data collection is implemented by using the technique of spreading 2 kinds of questionnaires and 1 kind of multiple choice test. The scale which is used for the questionnaires are Likert scale, the validity is calculated by using coefficient correlation of Pearson- Product Moment, and reliability is formulated by using Cronbach Alpha Method the result is 0,813 it is for student’s perception on using audio visual media and it is 0,555 for independent learning. For the test, the validity of student’s reading skill is calculated by using Point Biserial, and the reliability is formulated using Kuder Richardson-20 the result is 0, 8721.Key Word: Student’s Perception On Using Audio Visual Media, Independent Learning, Student’s Reading Skill

Abstract

Abstract: Community service held at Bimbingan Belajar Rumah Pintar Q-ta in Jl. Setu Pedongkelan Cimanggis Kelapa Dua Depok purposes to share knowledge and information related to the use of Cooperative Language Learning (CLL) Method in teaching English particularly for primary and secondary schools level. Besides, this activity gives either theoretical concepts or practical implementation of CLL Method for the instructors by self-applying of some techniques of CLL. Abstract

Abstract: This community service held at Foreign English Course located in Jl. Akses Tol Cijago, Cisalak, Cimanggis, Depok, Jabar and at Bimbingan Belajar dan Les Privat Be Smart located in Jl. Banteng No. 3 Ruko Pondok Cibubur, Cisalak, Cimanggis, Depok aiming on sharing knowledge and information how to use Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) especially on English teaching towards all learner levels. Additionally, the community service activities were provided not only in theoretical concept and principles of CLT but also practical perspectives and models of using CLT. The training targeted is the mentors who teach at Foreign English Course and Bimbingan Belajar dan Les Privat Be Smart. The training was conducted using Community Language Learning, and held during April-August 2017.The output product of this service is a Booklet which contains about using CLT in English teaching. Key words: Communicative Language Teaching, English Teaching Method, English Course Abstrak: Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan di Lembaga Kursus Foreign English Course dengan alamat Jl. Akses Tol Cijago, Cisalak, Cimanggis, Depok, Jabar dan di Bimbingan Belajar dan Les Privat Be Smart  yang beralamat di Jl. Banteng No. 3 Ruko Pondok Cibubur, Cisalak, Cimanggis, Depok bertujuan untuk membagikan pengetahuan dan informasi mengenai penggunaan metode Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris di tingkat SD/SMP/SMA/PT/Karyawan/Umum. Kegiatan yang dilakukan selain memberikan penjelasan secara teoritikal dan praktikal mengenai metode Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) dengan memberikan penjelasan tentang bagaimana mengaplikasikan metode tersebut dengan tehnik yang sesuai dan variasi model pengajaran dari metode CLT. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan berupa pelatihan untuk para guru tutor yang mengajar di Lembaga Kursus Foreign English Course dan Bimbingan Belajar dan Les Privat Be Smart . Metode yang digunakan dalam pelatihan yaitu Community Language Learning yang mana saling berbagi informasi layaknya seperti konsultan dan klien. Kegiatan Pengabdian Masyarakat ini dilakukan selama bulan April-Agustus 2017. Luaran dari kegiatan abdimas yang dilakukn berupa Booklet yang berisi cakupan tentang metode Communicative Language Teaching yang dapat dipakai sebagai acuan dalam penganjaran bahasa Inggris. Kata kunci: Communicative Language Teaching, Metode Pengajaran Bahasa Inggris, Bimbingan Belajar

Abstract

Abstrak: Pengembangan materi ajar berbasis kompetensi untuk mata kuliah Writing 1 bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis kebutuhan dosen dan mahasiswa dengan cara menambahkan, mengurangi, menghilangkan, dan memodifikasi materi bahan ajar agar tercapainya kesesuaian antara indikator dengan kompetensi mahasiswa dalam materi ajar (modul) “Writing 1 from Sentence to Paragraph.” Perbaikan dan pengembangan modul di mulai dari keterampilan mikro dalam menulis, orientasi, pendekatan, materi, teknik pengajaran, bentuk latihan dan penilaian. Salah satu bentuk dari perbaikan dan pengembangan modul selanjutnya yaitu dengan adanya penjelasan materi yang lebih spesifik dan mudah dipahami oleh mahasiswa serta pemberian contoh dan latihan soal yang harus diperbanyak dan bervariasi. Instrumen penelitian ini berasal kuesioner yang diberikan kepada mahasiswa semester III Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dan dosen pengampu mata kuliah Writing 1 di Universitas Indraprasta PGRI dengan analisis data penelitian yang dilakukan secara deskriptif kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil pengembangan materi ajar berbasis kompetensi, teknik yang paling banyak digunakan yaitu pemodifikasian (judul materi ajar/modul, kompetensi dasar di setiap bab, penjelasan materi, dan petunjuk pengerjaan) dan penambahan jumlah latihan soal. Kata Kunci: Pengembangan Materi Ajar, Kompetensi Mahasiswa, Menulis

Abstract

AbstractThe activity of community service that was held in Active English Course Institution which is addressed in Grand Depok City Ruko Anggrek D1 No. 4  had the aims; they are giving a training which contains of deliberate knowledge and information of Total Physical Response Method and Natural Approach that both can be used on teaching English especially on young learners level. This community service activity was applied on such kind of training that was proposed to the teachers in Active English Course Institution who mostly teach to primary school student. The activity was implemented by using a Communicative Language Teaching Method that it was processed by having a discussion communicatively whether from the speakers and the audience. This community service was held for four months that was began from October 2015 to January 2016.Key words: Total Physical Response Method, Natural approach, and Teaching English

Abstract

Abstract-This community service activity was held in MTs Nurul Falah Areman Depok that the purposes were to share knowledge and information about how to use Multiplatform Application for teaching English in junior high school level. This activity was not only to give explanation in theoretically but also practically about using Multiplatform Application involved detailed within applying it to method and technique during in teaching and learning process. The community service activity was a training to the teachers who teach in MTs Nurul Falah Areman. In that training was applied the simulation and practiced directly towards the teachers how to use Multiplatform Application for teaching. The method used during community service was Community Language Learning where the activity filled with sharing and discussing among participants such as consultant and client. Abstract

Teacher professional development is essential for a teacher to achieve teaching goals, whether in implementing the instruction or pedagogic dimensions. One of the efforts in developing teaching professionalism is designing a scholarly writing. However, in crafting a scholarly writing, a teacher encounters several challenges and difficulties, such as time management, research methodologies, designing instruments, generating research ideas or topics, etc. These issues were found in the Subject Teacher Discussion Forum (MGMP) of English teachers in Bekasi City as partners in this community service. Hence, in this community service event, the teachers were trained to design a scholarly writing in Best Practice research and the Situation, Task, Action, and Result (STAR) technique. The community service employed the Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) method. The result of the community service program (PkM) revealed that almost all the participants were motivated to write a scholarly writing.

Abstract

The community service was conducted in MTs Al Falah Al Anshoriyah with the address in Jl. Dukuh V No.1A, RT.2/RW.5, Dukuh, Kec. Kramat jati, Kota Jakarta Timur, Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta,Indonesia, and aimed to provide a training of implementing metacognitive strategy specifically in online English Language Teaching/ Learning. The main activity of this community service shared and highlighted the knowledge regarded to metacognitive strategy that was explored in conceptually and practically understanding for the teachers in MTs Al Falah Al Anshoriyah. The employed method in this activity was Community Language Learning which pointed the discussion process among the participants to obtain the teachers’ voices in confirming their pedagogical or experience issues and related to the training topic. Due to the pandemic condition, activities were carried out online through the Zoom conference media. The results and implications of this activity to the teachers were to gain new insights on how to apply and build metacognitive strategies for their students, especially in online/blended learning.
