Abstract

The aims of the study were to get increasing of students? English academic writing ability through the jigsaw technique. It is done in the English Education Program Study of Postgraduate Program Universitas Indraprasta PGRI Jakarta. In this study has emphasized teamwork learning. The research approach is mixed research using action research method. The process of collecting data used test, observation, documentation, interviews, and daily note. The technique of data analysis used qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. The sample of the study is 20 students. The result of the study shown that the average score of the student English academic writing test is different. The average of the test in cycle 1 is 51.1, cycle 2 is 51,2 and cycle 3 is 79,6.Keywords: Academic Writing, English, Jigsaw Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan peningkatan kemampuan menulis akademik bahasa Inggris menggunakan teknik Jigsaw. Penelitian dilakukan di Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris pada Program Pascasarjana Universitas Indraprasta PGRI Jakarta. Penelitian ini menitiberatkan pada pembelajaran kerja tim. Pendekatan penelitian adalah penelitian campuran menggunakan metode penelitian tindakan. Proses mengumpulkan data menggunakan tes, observasi, dokumentasi, wawancara dan catatan harian. Teknik analisis data terdiri dari analisis data kualitatif dan analisis data kuantitatif. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 20 mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perbedaan nilai tes menulis akademik bahasa Inggris. Nilai rata-rata tes pada siklus 1 sebesar 51.1, siklus 2 sebear 51,1 dan siklus 3 sebesar 79,6..Kata Kunci: Menulis Akademik, Bahasa Inggris, JIgsaw

Abstract

Grammar has the main role in English language learning. It can be given the impact on English language skill mastery. The purposes of this study were to find deeply comprehending on grammar mastery using academic text. The method of study used one-group experimental design. Process of collecting data used observation and test. The data analysis used t-test paired two samples for means. The result of finding show that academic text gave more information deeply to identify English structure. Students have a significant increase in scores from the pre-test and post-test results. The results of this study also have implications for improving students' reading skills, especially at the level of reading comprehension and vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to know the increase of English speaking using video project.  Moreover, the covid-19 pandemic era needs a learning process that can give appropriate facility for online learning. The method of study used one-group experimental. The participant was 25 students that are taken randomly. Data analysis used paired sample t-test. The results showed that there was an increase in the ability to speak English. From each component of the ability to speak English, the average score also increased. This has implications for understanding the concept of using facilities or appropriate learning methods. The concept of learning and teaching management must be by the backgrounds and needs of students.

Abstract

It is believed that communication through technology applications is very important in the current learning situation. Among the utilized applications, WhatsApp presents as the most used application in the Indonesian teaching and learning circumstance. The purpose of this study was to find out the students’ perspective on the use of WA in-class discussion outside the classroom for postgraduate students in the Reading Learning course. The method used a descriptive qualitative case study. Data was taken from interviews and group discussion forums. Data analysis uses data reduction, data presentation, and concluding stages. The results showed that the WA group became a fairly effective medium at the level of student understanding for each of the teaching materials discussed. However, communication within the WA group requires standard rules agreed upon by each student so that the goal of forming a WA group as a learning medium outside the classroom can be achieved.

Abstract

Online applications become a medium that helps the learning process of English in the classroom easier. Many online applications can be used to learn to speak English. Therefore, the aim of this study is to identify suitable online applications for learning to speak English that suits student needs. The research method uses descriptive qualitative. The data collection process is interview, observation, and questionnaire. Data analysis used three steps, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the zoom and google hangouts meet is a popular video application. While website Youtube is a web application chosen interestingly for English speaking learning and social media WhatsApp is easy to use in English speaking learning. It is able to make a group. The implication of study is to increase teacher’s creativity to use the online application.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine and discover the value of beauty for women through a poem entitled Aminah by WS. Rendra. Beauty was an important phenomenon for every woman. However, how this woman's concept become a good value for herself. This study used qualitative research with content analysis methods. Data were collected using fragments of poetry. Data analysis consisted of data reduction, data presentation, conclusion / verification. The results showed that the figure of Aminah had a beauty which was admired by all men or everyone in her village. Aminah became a village flower, but her figure had became a proud and arrogant woman. In her findings, Aminah's beauty had no value that given a positive impact on herself or the community. Aminah became a miserable person because of the greed that came from her beauty. She became a woman who fell into the valley of black life as a Commercial Sex Worker. At the end of the poem story, Aminah was to return as the nature of women despite having to face scolding from the community. So, the value of women's beauty must be balanced between physical, psychological, and social. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji dan menemukan nilai kecantikan bagi perempuan melalui puisi berjudul Aminah karya WS. Rendra. Kecantikan menjadi fenomena penting bagi setiap perempuan. Namun, bagaimana konsep perempuan ini menjadi nilai yang baik bagi diri perempuan itu sendiri. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan penggalan puisi. Analisis data terdiri dari reduksi data, penyajian data, penarikan kesimpulan/verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sosok Aminah memiliki kecantikan yang sangat dikagumi oleh semua laki-laki ataupun semua orang di desanya. Aminah menjadi bunga desa, namun sosoknya telah menjadi perempuan yang sombong dan angkuh. Dalam temuannya kecantikan Aminah tidak memiliki nilai yang berdampak positif terhadap dirinya ataupun masyarakat. Aminah malah menjadi orang yang sengsara karena keserakahannya yang berasal dari kecantikannya. Dia menjadi perempuan yang terjerumus pada lembah kehidupan hitam sebagai Pekerja Komersial Seks. Pada akhir cerita puisi, Aminah ingin kembali pada fitrah perempuan walaupun harus menghadapi cacian dari masyarakat. Jadi, nilai kecantikan perempuan harus seimbang antara fisik, psikis, dan sosial. Abstract

The purpose of the study was to analyze students' perceptions of YouTube as authentic teaching material in online classes. The research method uses qualitative. Participants were taken from the Grammar and Speaking classes as many as 50 students from the English Language Program at Universitas Indraprasta Jakarta. Data were collected using interviews and questionnaires. Data analysis used interactive model analysis form Miles and Huberman that were the stages of data reduction, data display, and concluding. The results show that YouTube can become authentic material if it has content, plot, duration, and originality that suit the needs and learning objectives. Videos on YouTube also have quality and clear sound. However, YouTube is not only assumed to be the main authentic teaching material, but it will be better if it is equipped with journals, websites and books. The results of this study have implications that teachers must know the needs of students regarding teaching materials and videos that are made should be by the level of learning needs

Abstract

The study's purpose was to obtain the concept of the value of local wisdom in the digital era with the existence of an independent learning policy on an independent campus. This study analyzed all research data related to the value of local wisdom and MBKM that has been carried out by previous researchers. This study was a literature review research through a qualitative approach. The research data was taken from research results that have been published in national and international journals in the period 2010-2022. The data analysis stage used in this study was a qualitative approach which includes: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of this study resulted in the concept of applying local wisdom values that were compatible with the application of the MBKM policy and were also related to advances in digital technology with all the demands for quality human resources. Educators and educational institutions must work together to develop local wisdom values in MBKM policy-based learning. Educators can use the results of this research as theoretical input for developing learning facilities

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini adalah kajian tentang efektivitas penggunaan media sosial, yaitu facebook, untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menulis deskriptif berbahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas. Data dikumpulkan dari observasi, dokumentasi, dan tes. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa: 1) proses pembelajaran menulis deskriptif bahasa Inggris menggunakan facebook lebih bervariasi dan menyenangkan, dan 2) ada peningkatan kemampuan menulis deskriptif bahasa Inggris yang ditandai dari peningkatan hasil tes. Hal tersebut terlihat pada hasil nilai rata-rata pre-test sebesar 66.25, dan hasil rata-rata post-test sebesar 80.15. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa facebook dapat dimanfaatkan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Abstract This research is a study of the effectiveness of using social media, namely Facebook, to improve students' ability to write descriptive English. This research is a classroom action research. The data are taken from observation, documentation, and tests. The results of data analysis show that: 1) the process of learning descriptive English using Facebook is more varied and enjoyable, and 2) there is an increase in students’ ability to write descriptive English which is marked by an increase in test results. This can be seen from the average of the pre-test and pos-test score, which is 66.25 and 80.15 respectively. Thus it can be concluded that Facebook can be used to improve learning outcomes in learning English.
