Abstract

A residence is a place to live that accommodates daily activities. Under normal conditions, housing is used as a place to unwind after work and school outside the home. Since December 2019 major changes have taken place globally that have an impact on housing. This change was due to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus and reached various regions. Changes due to the spread of the Covid-19 virus have caused changes in the order of life because all activities that were initially carried out outside the home, have shifted to being carried out indoors. This happens because to reduce the impact of the spread of the virus, humans must practice social distancing. The biggest change that occurred was the shift from formal school activities and work to housing. With the addition of this activity, the residence must be able to be used functionally and meet comfort for the smooth running of activities in it. The purpose of this study is to identify, describe, and interpret changes in the function of space in residential areas as an adaptation process during a pandemic. The research method used is qualitative with purposive sampling. This qualitative research was conducted inductively by observing and interviewing the research case. Data were taken purposively on 6 residential areas in Jakarta, Depok, Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi. The results of this study are changes that occur in residential spaces in the form of non-physical changes, namely by adding activities that are accommodated in the space. Physically the space has not changed, this shows that the non-physical changes that occur are an adaptation process carried out by residential users. The adaptation process that occurs begins with adjusting activities to the available space in the dwelling. In the process of adaptation that occurs will choose a room that has the character as the need for new activities during the pandemic. In the end, housing can provide a positive response to the COVID-19 pandemic with flexibility in the use of space to accommodate new functions.

Interviews were conducted with the main sources and direct descendants of Habib Alwi bin Ali As-Syatiri. The result of this study is that the sacred space of the Jami 'AlMukarromah mosque has a clear definition and is reflected in its physical form. The sacred space used is the main prayer room as the sacred space which has the highest hierarchy. The main prayer room is part of the expansion building. Sacred space of pilgrimage is on the part adjacent to the tomb and the original part of the mosque which is often called the Nine pillars. The area adjacent to the tomb is an important area so the expansion or renovation of the mosque does not change the original form. The sacred space used for the haul activity is the same as the sacred space for pilgrimage, that is, in the section adjacent to the tomb and pillar of nine

Abstract

In traditional houses, the latar has an important role. The latar is not just an open space that can be physically used for shared activities. But the latar has a deeper meaning. A phenomenon is found in the traditional Kudus house that the buildings in the house face the latar, and not face the road. In connection with this phenomenon, a study was conducted aimed at uncovering the connection and interpreting the location of the latar with the orientation of the traditional Kudus house. This research is a descriptive interpretative qualitative research. Field data collection is done through direct observation in the Kudus traditional house to record and describe the arrangement of the building, setting the layout, and orientation of the building and is equipped with interview data. The results of the recording and description are then analyzed and interpreted to find the relationships and meanings contained in these relations. The results of this study showed two conditions: first, there was a relation between latar location and building orientation; secondly, the latar does not only serve as the center of the building orientation, and the binding between the buildings in the traditional Kudus house. But in meaning the latar is also two important activities carried out by the people of the Kota Lama Kudus, namely ji-gang, reciting and trading.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic began to emerge at the end of 2019. This condition affects changes in the order of different lives. One of the causes of this change is that all activities that were originally carried out outside the home have completely changed with the Work From Home (WFH) and Learning From Home (BDR) systems into activities carried out at home. This study aims to identify and describe changes in the function and form of residential spaces during the pandemic. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method following its purpose to see changes in the form and function of simple dwellings. Changes in the form are carried out by observing the form and function before and after the pandemic, observing the situation during the pandemic, and conducting interviews to find out the form and function before the pandemic. Data were collected by purposive sampling on 13 houses with small, medium, and large areas. The result of this study is that changes occurred in the house caused by the pandemic. These changes were found in the increased activity in the room. Meanwhile, the shape of the room and place did not change. This additional activity was due to the existence of WFH (working from home). And BDR (study from home) are two different activities that have emerged during the pandemic. Another finding from this study is that users use two spaces to carry out activities during the pandemic: the living room and the bedroom. The living room is used as an online learning place for elementary school-age users, but for high school and college-age users, BDR / online lecture activities are carried out in the room. Meanwhile, parents do WFH activities more in the room because they need peace and privacy. Keywords: Change, function and form, residence

Abstract

Space is an architectural form that is used to accommodate activities with certain functions. In a space contained activities carried out by humans and functions that represent these activities. Sometimes during this period the space undergoes changes in activity and function. Space can undergo physical and non-physical changes to respond to changes in these activities and functions. Kilungan is a local term used to refer to the tall massive fence in the Old City of Kudus. The massive fence, known as the kilungan, was built with one of the goals to provide a sense of security. Inside the kilungan house, there are at least 2 main building masses, namely the main house and the supporting buildings. The spaces in the kilungan house which have been inhabited for more than 100 years have also undergone changes in response to the spatial sustainability of the dwelling. The purpose of this study is to explore, describe, and get the meaning of changes in space in the kilungan house. This study uses an inductive qualitative method. The initial stage is to make observations to get the distribution of the kilungan house. The research area is limited to the Old City of Kudus, Indonesia. The core stage of the research is data collection and analysis carried out simultaneously inductively. Exploration is carried out on cases to obtain findings in accordance with research objectives. The results of this study were found changes in spatial arrangement in the kilungan house in the form of: (1) changes in function without changing the physical form of space, found in spaces that accommodate different activities but have the same activity pattern; (2) changing the function of changing the spatial arrangement without changing the mass of the building; (3) changes in spatial arrangement change the physical building; (4) shifting activity changes zoning (5) Determining the direction of change does not change the orientation of the building in the circle. ; (6) Spatial sustainability in residential areas is indicated by changes in activities, functions, spatial arrangement but does not change the core things which are the concept of the kilungan house. Spatial sustainability can be found in the adaptations made by building users to new functions in the spaces in the dwelling.
