Abstract

The study aims to design mathematics learning in composite function concepts with farm tools, which are thrasher and rice mill machines; this farm’s tool is used as to starting point in the learning process. The research method used is design research with a  preliminary design, design experiment, and analysis retrospective stages. This study describes the design of the thrasher and rice mill machine to facilitate a real contribution for student understanding of the composite function concept. The participant of this research is 10 eleventh-grade students from one of the senior high school in East Java. The results of this study reveal that students are able to make associations from the thrasher and rice mill machine through the determination of the input and output of the machines to the formula of the composite function concept. So, the stages in the learning trajectory have an important role in understanding the composition function concept from informal level to formal level and also make the study of mathematics more easy, simple, fun, and comfortable.

Abstract

Digital literacy is a skill that learners must have. This ability is the basis in shaping students' critical and creative reasoning. In shaping students' mathematical literacy, interesting learning media is needed. This learning media can be in the form of ICT or Manipulative. The RIMath application is an android-based learning media that can facilitate students' mathematical literacy. RIMath learning media presents mathematics learning that applies contextual problems while integrating the Qur'an. The type of research used in this study is R&D (Research and Development) using the 4D method (Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate). RIMath learning media will be validated to experts to ensure the quality of this learning media. RIMath learning media will also be tested with students to ensure that the RIMath application can facilitate students' mathematical literacy. RIMath learning media gets a feasibility percentage of 78.283%. This percentage proves that RIMath learning media is included in the "feasible" category to be used by students in learning mathematics. In a t-test experiment, RIMath learning is proven to improve students' mathematical literacy by working on math problems.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the ability of deaf students to solve mathematical word problems on integer topics, particularly addition and subtraction operations. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving two deaf junior high school students from a special education school in Batu City. Data were collected through problem-solving ability tests, interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, and was further examined based on Polya’s four stages of problem solving. The findings revealed that deaf students experienced difficulties in the stages of understanding the problem and devising a plan, especially in interpreting word problems related to integer operations. However, during the stages of carrying out the plan and reviewing the solution, the students were able to perform calculations accurately. Therefore, mathematics instruction for deaf students should incorporate visual aids, simplified language explanations, and contextual word problem exercises to enhance students’ understanding in the early stages of problem solving.

Abstract

AbstractJavanese society in which Bangunrejo Kidul Kedunggalar Ngawi Village has social, cultural, and religious traditions. Tradition is one of the inherent cultures and becomes a habit of min to think and act the people of Bangunrejo Kidul Village. One tradition that is still maintained today is the tahlilan tradition. This tradition became a fringe sufism movement that influenced the religious practice of the community both habl min Allah and habl min nass. This research is qualitative, using the case study method with a naturalistic approach because the object raised is the tahlilan tradition that exists among Nahdliyin residents, especially in Bangunrejo Kidul Village and the approach uses religious sociology. The tahlilan tradition is one of the religious cultures that is still maintained and practiced by the people of Bangunrejo Kidul Village, especially Nahdliyin as a medium of da'wah to build a balance of personal piety to increase faith in Allah Almighty and social piety in the form of harmony and social harmony. The tradition of tahlilan as a fringe urban sufism movement that indirectly teaches taqarub ila Allah by strengthening religious messages, increasing religious knowledge, and strengthening other religious values. In its development, the tradition of tahlilan experienced an expansion of functions not only identical to death but also in it there was a process of good habituation in all religious activities and passed down from generation to generation. Keywords: tahlilan tradition, da'wa, nahdliyin, village community, prayer of salvation

Abstract

This study discusses the analysis of proportional reasoning ability of students at SMP Islam Bani Hasyim Singosari in solving comparison problems integrated with Islamic values. The main issue examined is the low ability of students to understand proportional concepts. The research aims to analyze students' proportional reasoning skills, particularly in solving comparison problems within the Islamic context, specifically zakat. The method used is qualitative descriptive research with data collected through written tests and structured interviews with purposively selected students. Data analysis was conducted using triangulation techniques to obtain a comprehensive picture of students’ proportional reasoning abilities. The results indicate that most students meet the indicators of proportional reasoning, namely understanding the concept of covariation, identifying proportional situations, and correctly using multiplicative strategies. However, there are still limitations in accurately understanding the conditions for ratio usage and integrating the concept of zakat within the problem context. Thus, the study confirms that mathematics learning that optimally integrates Islamic values has the potential to strengthen mastery of the material and foster students' religious attitudes in a balanced manner.

Abstract

The low level of higher-order thinking skills in junior high school students indicates a fundamental problem that often triggers errors in solving mathematics problems. This study aims to analyze and describe junior high school students' errors in HOTS relation and function problems based on Kastolan's theory from a gender perspective. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach involving two subjects, namely one male and one female student of grade VIII of UPT SMP Negeri 30 Gresik, selected through purposive sampling technique. Data collection through HOTS essay tests and interviews to explore students' thinking processes. Using technical triangulation data validity. The data analysis process is carried out by means of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that male students make conceptual, procedural, and technical errors, while female students do not show conceptual errors but still make procedural and technical errors. This difference indicates variations in problem-solving strategies based on gender, where male students are more impulsive and less verification, while female students are more careful but less confident. These findings emphasize the need to strengthen conceptual understanding, systematic solution steps, and accuracy to improve students' HOTS abilities.
