Abstract

Painting has undergone many developments. One of them is technical development in terms of materials. One of the unique techniques in painting is the gutta tamarind technique which uses ground tamarind seeds that are ground. This study aims to examine the use of tamarind seeds as an alternative medium in the work. Gutta tamarind is popular because the material used resembles the material for batik. However, in the process of using it, gutta tamarind which is also known as cold wax does not require a heating stove like the hot wax of batik in general. In this study, we will discuss the process of making cold wax from tamarind seed powder. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method by studying the manufacture of cold wax gutta tamarind in stages. The results of this study indicate that the gutta tamarind technique in the process of making textile paintings or wastra paintings produces characters that are no less unique and beautiful.

Abstract

Nature is a theme that is always present in the development of art in the world, both Western and Asian arts, such as China and Indonesia. The visualization can be a literal or abstract representation. Nature can be an additional element to a painting to convey depth, or perspective. However, the depiction of nature in a painting can also be the main focus of a work of art. In Indonesia itself, there is an Art Village, precisely Jelekong Art Village, where hundreds of people work as painters and some have made nature the main focus of their work. The uniqueness of the Jelekong painter's work lies in the method used and the materials used. So that the authors are interested in further researching the uniqueness of this Jelekong technique. The purpose of this research is to examine the comparison of natural visualization techniques and aspects of Jelekong painting which represent nature in terms of methods and materials. The samples in this study were paintings by Jelekong artists and Western artists. The qualitative descriptive method is considered the most appropriate for analyzing Jelekong painting. The result of this research is that the superiority of the art technique of Ugong painting is the sponge technique created by one of its residents. Abstract

Jelekong has a productive community of artists who produce commercial and mass paintings. This creation aims to create novelty in Jelekong painting by borrowing Jacques Derrida s Deconstruction to present alternative meanings. The creation method used is Alma M. Hawkins creation method which includes the stages of 1) exploration, 2) improvisation, and 3) implementation. The results of the creation of this work are two works entitled "To Bloom" and "To Flow" which show aspects of deconstruction that occur in the creative process which can also be identified in the ideas and visual aspects of the work. Metallic visualization is used as a marker of the transformation resulting from efforts to deconstruct the traditional Jelekong painting.
