Abstract

This study aims to determine the mercury accumulation in Gerris sp and its potential as a bioindicator. This type of research is experimental research. This research was conducted at Lake Taliwang and the UGM Integrated Research and Testing Laboratory. The sampling point in this study was determined based on the distance to the pollutant source. It was divided into station 1 (inlet), an area close to the pollutant source, and station 2 (outlet), far from the pollutant source. There are 3 test tests: the accumulation of mercury in water and sediment, mercury in the gerris, and the gerris as a bioindicator of mercury pollution. Analysis of the test results data is presented in descriptive statistics. The results of this study are (1) The waters of Lake Lebo are polluted by mercury, found in sediments and water, and enter the food chain, namely gerris. The mercury concentration in the inlet area is greater than the outlet area because it is closer to the pollutant source (2). Gerris can be used as a bioindicator of mercury pollution in Lake Lebo Taliwang because it can accumulate heavy metals. It meets the criteria of bioindicator organisms and is very strongly correlated with water. The finding suggests that the local government makes regulations regarding mercury metal pollution in Taliwang Lake because mercury metal can enter other food chains and is toxic to living things.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini merupakan bagian dari pengabdian dosen Universitas Cordova. Bertujuan untuk memberikan Pelatihan Pembuatan Abon Udang kepada Kelompok Ibu PKK Desa Tambak Sari Kecamatan Poto Tano Kabupaten Sumbawa Barat. Kegiatan dibagi dalam tiga tahapan utama, yaitu tahap melakukan pra-kegiatan berupa koordinasi dengan ketua PKK Desa Tambak Sari terkait kegiatan yang akan dilaksanakan, Tahap persiapan memberikan pelatihan membuat abon berbahan baku udang. Dalam pelaksanaannya dilakukan melalui 3 bagian: a) Pemberian materi tentang udang dan cara pembuatan abon udang; b) Pelatihan pembuatan abon udang; c) Evaluasi kepuasan pelaksanaan kegiatan dengan memberikan kuesioner dengan peserta, Memberikan pelatihan teknik dan manajemen penyimpanan agar produk abon udang dapat tahan lama dan kualitas terjaga, Teknik pemasaran dan Monitoring dan evaluasi terhadap hasil pelatihan pembuatan abon udang serta penguasaan terhadap pengetahuan aspek manajemen penyimpanan produk pelaksanaan kegiatan pelatihannya telah dilakukan pada bulan agustus 2023 bertempat di Balai Desa Tambak Sari. Pelatihannya diberikan dengan metode ceramah dan praktik langsung. Adapun sasaran peserta dari program ini yaitu masyarakat Desa Tambak Sari Kecamatan Poto Tano Kabupaten Sumbawa Barat khususnya ibu-ibu PKK. Kegiatan berjalan lancar dan sesuai rencana. Peserta sangat antusias dan mengikuti kegiatan sampai akhir.

Abstract

This research was conducted to evaluate the water quality of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) hatchery ponds at the Fish Seed Center (Balai Benih Ikan, BBI) located in Tepas Sepakat Village, West Sumbawa Regency. Water quality is a critical factor that directly influences the success of aquaculture, particularly in hatchery operations where the survival and growth rates of fish fry are highly dependent on optimal environmental conditions. The study assessed key water quality parameters including temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, ammonia concentration, and water transparency. Measurements were carried out quantitatively through direct sampling from three hatchery ponds containing fry of different ages and sizes, with data collected over three consecutive days during morning and afternoon sessions. The results indicated that all measured parameters remained within the acceptable ranges established by the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 7550:2009) for freshwater aquaculture. Water temperature ranged between 25.9°C and 27.9°C, DO levels varied from 3.9 to 5.2 mg/L, pH values ranged from 7.5 to 8.2, ammonia concentration was consistently below 0.1 mg/L, and water clarity ranged from 40 to 46 cm. Although water clarity slightly exceeded the standard threshold, it was still within a tolerable range that could support sufficient light penetration for photosynthesis without posing risks to the aquatic ecosystem. These findings suggest that the water quality at the BBI Tepas Sepakat hatchery ponds is generally suitable for supporting healthy and productive tilapia breeding. However, continuous monitoring and adaptive water quality management, particularly concerning dissolved oxygen and light penetration, are recommended to maintain optimal rearing conditions and ensure long-term sustainability of the hatchery operations. These findings can serve as a useful reference in promoting sustainable aquaculture practices and can be used in aquaculture training programs to improve water quality management.
