Abstract

   The age group with the fastest growth in the world today is elderly. The health problems experienced by the elderly are varied, such as cognitive disorders and physical or motor problems. Various efforts have been made to restore this condition, one of them is play therapy. The purpose of this community service is to provide play therapy to improve motor and cognitive strength to the elderly that are fostered by Stikes Bala Keselamatan Palu which is located in Palu City. The method in this activity was done by interviewing, observing and running a questionnaire to measure cognitive of the elderly using the MMSE (Mini Mental State Examination) questionnaire and to measure the client's motor strength, it was used an assessment of muscle strength then the elderly was divided into several small groups with 5 types of games or activities which will be carried out alternately. The results obtained were that 24 elderly who were willing to take part in play therapy activities with MMSE results data, there were 21 elderly who got an average score of < 21 which means that the elderly have cognitive impairment and the average muscle strength of the elderly has a value of 4 which means there were still lots of elderly who have muscle weakness. After the play therapy was carried out, the elderly seemed active, enthusiastic and very happy with this activity. It is recommended that the health workers, especially community health center, can add this play therapy to the elderly integrated services post program.

Abstract

   One of the health problems experienced by elderly is sleep disturbances both in quality and quantity which can cause effects such as forgetfulness, confusion and disorientation, if it IS happened in long term it will cause trauma. The purpose of this community service is to apply the results of a research is that massage therapy to the elderly in improving sleep quality. The method used was the applying of massage therapy directly given to the elderly assisted by health science college of the salvation army Palu which were consisted of 22 people, it began with an examination of the sleep quality and continued with the applying of 8 times massage therapy which were carried out for 2 months every Friday morning. Result: This massage therapy can improve the sleep quality of the elderly because in the pre test it was found that all the elderly experienced sleep quality disorders and in the post test, it was found that there were 17 of 22 elderly already had good sleep quality but there were still 5 elderly who had mild sleep quality disorders. It is hoped that health workers will continue to apply complementary therapies to the community so that they can improve the health of the community.

Abstract

Mild cognitive impairment is a term for people who are at risk of developing dementia. Cognitive decline is an elderly perspective that is commonly a health problem because it is closely related to physical health, psychological health, and quality of life in the elderly. This study aimed to determine the effect of puzzle therapy on the cognitive function of the elderly. This type of quantitative research is pre-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design approach. The population in this study was 24 elderly people, using a saturated sampling technique. The intervention carried out was puzzle therapy given for 30-60 minutes over a period of 1 week. Puzzle therapy is a fragment of several images from a complete picture that is designed to stimulate the brain so that the brain's cognitive role increases. The cognitive abilities of the elderly were measured using the MMSE (Mini-Mental State Examination) questionnaire in the form of a test consisting of 30 points of cognitive function including orientation, registration, attention and calculation, remembering, and language. Score 24-30 (good cognitive function), score 1-23 (cognitive impairment). hypothesis analysis using the Wilcoxon test. The results of the study showed that the puzzle therapy variables influence the cognitive abilities of the elderly (p.value 0.01). To improve the cognitive function of the elderly, it can be done through scheduled puzzle therapy in the daily activities of the elderly.

Abstract

Hypertension is an increase in blood pressure that can cause sleep disorders. Sleep pattern disorders are where individuals experience sleep disorders including difficulty falling asleep, waking up in the middle of the night, and waking up too early. Autogenic relaxation is a relaxation that comes from positive suggestions that have been proven to have a calming effect on individuals and can improve sleep quality. This relaxation is easy to do, does not require cost, and does not require training. This study aims to describe nursing care with the application of autogenic relaxation techniques to improve sleep quality. The method used in this study is a descriptive case study method. Data collection was carried out through interviews and observations. The instrument used was the PSQI Assessment, with sleep pattern disorders related to lack of sleep control according to the signs and symptoms in the SDKI. The interventions given were 4 interventions following SIKI with the application of autogenic relaxation techniques. Results: After autogenic relaxation therapy was applied for 3 meetings, the PSQI assessment results decreased from 9 to 5, meaning good sleep quality. This study concludes that autogenic relaxation can improve the sleep quality of elderly hypertensive patients. It is hoped that from the results of this special study, respondents will be able to apply autogenic relaxation techniques independently.

Abstract

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a condition that injures the spine either as a whole or only part of the spinal segment. Kegel exercise is an exercise to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, or an exercise that aims to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, especially the pubococcyx muscles, so that a person can strengthen the muscles of the urinary tract. Urinary incontinence is the involuntary discharge of urine in sufficient quantity and frequency that causes health or social, hygienic, psychosocial, and economic problems. Objective: Describe nursing care for applying Keggel exercise therapy to overcome reflex urinary incontinence in the elderly with spinal cord injury. Method: This study uses a descriptive case study method. The data collection methods provided are interviews and observations. The instrument used is an assessment of urine elimination patterns. The results of the assessment indicate that the client is experiencing incontinence problems. The nursing diagnosis raised is reflex urinary incontinence related to damage to impulse conduction above the reflex arc, according to the signs and symptoms in the SDKI. The intervention given was 9 days of intervention by previous research, which applied Kegel exercise therapy. After applying the Keggel exercise for 9 meetings, the client's urine scale results decreased. It is expected that from the results of this case study, respondents can apply Keggel exercise techniques regularly and independently.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease or disorder caused by various etiologies. This disease is characterized by high blood glucose levels and impaired carbohydrate, lipid, and protein metabolism due to functional insufficiency. In patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, fatigue is one of the symptoms of physiological processes, treatment procedures, and complications that diabetes mellitus sufferers often experience in the long term. Energy management is a structured strategy to help diabetes mellitus sufferers manage and optimize their energy use, thereby reducing fatigue. This study aims to describe nursing care for elderly people with type 2 diabetes mellitus with fatigue nursing problems in Palu City, Central Sulawesi Province. This study uses a descriptive case study method. Data collection methods included interviews, observations, and assessments. The instruments used are general assessments and assessments of fatigue measurement scales. The results showed that fatigue problems were found to be related to physiological conditions (diabetes mellitus) in accordance with the signs and symptoms of the Indonesian Nursing Diagnosis Standards (SDKI). The interventions provided were 11 interventions according to the Indonesian nursing intervention standards (SIKI). After five nursing care sessions, the fatigue assessment scale showed a decrease. It is hoped that the results of this case study will enable respondents to implement daily energy management activities to address fatigue in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
